What is it with the AW8 Yesterday trying to LOAD a track crashed Logic. I finally got to load it by switching from native AW8 drivers to ASIO, switched back to native, then I could load and play the track. Saved it, tried to reload with native drivers agein, Logic crashes. Why would Logic crash on loading but be able to play it back if loaded with the AW8 native drivers disabled? I could always go back to an earlier version that doesn't crash Logic. But if I continue loading the track with the native driver disabled, then turning it back on, am I heading for more trouble down the road as the file is probably corrupt, and could the corruption get any worse? Thanks for any explanations or tips Mat

Hi Mat, >Why would Logic crash on loading but be able to play it back if loaded with >the AW8 native drivers disabled? Hm, could perhaps have something to do with the MME drivers that might have used the AW8 before (that way native support could be blocked). I decided to deactivate the AW8 MME drivers completely (I have an EWS for MME tasks) since I had some crashes similar to yours. In any case you should got to control panel > multimedia and deactivate the AW8 as a "preferred device" (or whatever it says in english). Set it to another soundcard (if you got one) or make at least sure to uncheck the "use just preffered devices" box. You should also switch off every Windows sound scheme. Also you could try to deactivate the AW8 MME drivers temporary with ctrl+alt+del. I'm afraid it's the only tip I have for now. Sascha

Good idea! Maybe there is an AVI video saved with that song? With greetings from Germany Sascha Kujawa Quality Assurance Manager (Windows) Emagic Soft- & Hardware GmbH

As I told Sascha in a private post; It was down to the Amulet VST Adaptor plugin being used! I don't know if there is a later version than the one I used. It's the first time I had used it in Logic, and it worked fine apart from when I came to load the track into Logic. It's funny that loading the track with the AW8 native drivers would crash Logic but with the AW8 ASIO drivers it was fine. I hadn't used the mme drivers before, but they are always loaded in the background. The mme drivers do seem really flakey tough Thanks Mat >>>Why would Logic crash on loading but be able to play it back if loaded with >>>the AW8 native drivers disabled? >>Hm, could perhaps have something to do with the MME drivers that might have >>used the AW8 before (that way native support could be blocked). >Good idea! >Maybe there is an AVI video saved with that song? >With greetings from Germany >Sascha Kujawa

>From: "Mat Jarvis" <mat@m...> > >As I told Sascha in a private post; >It was down to the Amulet VST Adaptor plugin being used! Yes, unfortunately the VST Adapter is giving me WAY more crashes in 4.0x then in 3.6x (where I hardly had any at all). I allready mailed a relatively detailed bug report to the author and he's gonna look what's wrong pretty soon (that's what he told me), but perhaps it's not gonna help at all because... >It's funny that loading the track with the AW8 native drivers would crash >Logic but with the AW8 ASIO drivers it was fine. Yes, I noticed that too, also people using other soundcards had no such massive problems with the adapter, so it might pretty much be an AW8 issue as well (Especially since the AW8 refuses to re-initialize after such crashes). I also tried to use my EWS, no crashes too. But of course I don't wanna use either of those options since AW8 native support works WAY more reliable generally. Anyways, something weird I noticed: After I fooled around with all those other driver settings I switched back to the AW8 to crosscheck, and 'Uh-Oh', for the first time ever I was able to open Vellocets VReorder without a crash, I even was able to fool around with it for several minutes (of course then it crashed but before it even crashed on loading the .dll...). Hm, I'm no computer expert at all, but could this have something to do with memory settings (some weird caching)? I mean, it just looked as if something was 'freed up' with those tests... Emagic, could you please have a look at that? The VST adapter is a REALLY cool thing for PC users (most likely the best little 'tool' I ever purchased) and there are just too many nice VST plugins around that I'd love to use again. Sascha
