There are several hard and fast rules with SCSI, and if you Disobey them you may or may not get away with it. You certainly cannot turn on and off these devices at your leisure and I am not at all surprised to hear you have problems. When you power on any SCSI BUS the initiator (host adapter) sets it's termination according to what it sees on the BUS. If you want to remove a device, the only way you can sort of get away with it (careful with the O/S) is if you have the drive in a caddy, in a removable carrier which has the termination set. Even then you need to ensure the O/S isn't going to try to write to the drive whilst removed, and also the host adapter needs to be able to handle the situation. 'Hot Swap' is a much misused term, and you need to consider the environment before you try to utilise it. Phil
