Hello , my name is Todd and I humbly approach this group. I've just
started using vslogic tonight. After three days
of trying I have finally got the Logic program to recognize my
VS1680.
It was someone at Emagic tec support who
helped me (thanks again Andy).
My main propose for getting the Logic software is to use as a
sequencer.
Specifically I am sequencing drums (Roland TD-7). All my machines
are
talking, I am able to record MIDI events
but I can't figure out how to transmit them back so that they play
the
TD-7.
My system is Roland VS1680/Logic running on an iMac/TD-7 kit and
things
are connected through a Roland
UM-2 USB MIDI interface.
Thanks for any help at all.
Sincerely,
Todd Greenwood
Hello....
My setup is the same, pretty close...a vs 880ex and logic for
midi with a roland xp-30 and a yamaha dtx drum module....the key lies in
the interface it seems..mine is a motu micro express with a serial
port...the interface is connected to the printer com port on the pc, and
once the drivers were loaded, Ihave never had a problem..one thing I
noticed is the interface must be swithched on before the computer is
booted though.....
Are you using the vs logic that came with the vs 1680? I
never even loaded mine, I always have used platinum 4.1.1...like I said,
once the drivers were loaded the midi in/out ports immediately
recognized all the devices.....midi port 1- vs studio midi port
2-roland xp-30 midi port 3-yamaha dtx

I'm just using the logic which I purchased from Roland Canada. I've
had my 1680 for over two years and that is befor VSLogic was written.
Hello again....
As a fellow vs studio owner, I would like to help if I can...and
the only help I can offer is
this suggestion....do you know whether your interface drivers are
current??......if your roland module isnt sending and receiving properly
it may be something in the module....had the same problem with the yamaha,
and went back to factory default, cracked the manual, started all over and
found the problem.....
I've used a few different sequencers and by far, Logic was the most
cooperative in terms of
linking all midi devices together....the Mtc works incredibly with the vs,
never a problem.....
I'm looking at the vs 1880 now.....however, through other forums I
have heard knocks against the supplied vs logic...happy with your 1680???

I'm quite happy with the 1680. I've been on it for two years now and
I
think I've gotten the Roland tec support pretty much trained up.
But sereiously, it works fine and having everything in one box like
that is really nice. For real serious stuff the preamps need a
little
help from a high quaility external mixer but once you get past that
it
works fine. The mastering software that came out for it last spring
has helped me a lot. With it I can get my mixes as loud and flush as
any commercial CDs out there.
But I'm always looking for something better. I'm just getting into
this Logic stuff now. How do you like Logic?? Hows it compare to
the
VS format???
Sincerely,
Todd Greenwood
Hello...hello again....
Logic Platinum with the vs studio is a very versatile setup....I
agree the preamps need work and right now the pre's on the mackie vlz
mixer are working ok for me...
The huge advantage to the vs studios is you already have a stable
audio recording platform....so you spend more time making music and less
time configuring your system and getting it stable...there is no doubt
however that the logic DAW is a very powerful tool...
I thought you said you had an iMac and the big question for me
with that computer right now would be the audio interface...as we speak I
heard there are some new devices on the market to address that issue...
The are limitless possibilities with the vs studio and logic/midi
sequencing set-up...I am very reluctant to jump into the audio side of
Logic...I would say though if you have the patience and the time go for
it....otherwise stick with the 1680 and the logic sequencer and you'll
spend a lot more time making music...
the sequencing software is deep....I've tried em all and this is
the deepest....upside is it never ceases to amaze me the possibilites
that exist...downside is I've spent hours working the software when I
could have been making music.....
