Subject: Mac micro logic
Message #21765
I'm still waiting for my cross-grade to complete from LAWP to LAMP... In the meantime, I bought a motu fastlane USB midi interface. This was dumb. I should have waited until logic arrives, so I could return it if there is trouble. But, I thought logic was going to arrive the next day (two weeks ago). Anyway, after much fussing about in the maze of user friendliness by this mac novice, I have managed to verify that the interface works with a demo of reaktor. Both a cubase demo and a vision demo crash my 400mhz G4 instantly. I'm worried that this will happen when logic arrives, but that's not really what I want to write about. I downloaded a micro logic demo which comes with no documentation. I see that it is receiving midi, but no sound is produced. I have only a midi keyboard; no synthesizer. How do I assign the midi events to some sound making thing? Also, where can I find the equivalent of the default midi sounds my PC sound card made? Is there a software GM synth available? Kendall

You can choose it as an Environment object in the New->Internal menu. You can choose it as an Environment > object in the New->Internal menu. Apparently I have an ancient copy. I got it from... harmony central I think. micro logic version 2.0. There is no New->Internal menu. The only reason why I wanted to install micro logic, or cubase etc. was to make sure that my midi interface functions. Somehow I don't feel comfortable having only checked it with reaktor, and I only have a day left in which I can return the midi interface. I suppose I will just trust that it's going to work and wait for logic platinum to arrive. Kendall

Being in the same situation, I tested my USB MIDI interface (Midiman Midisport 2x2 on a 350MHz G4) with the freeware Vibra 1000 soft monosynth from: http://www.koblo.com/ It works - apparently - with Logic and turns out to be a very nice little plaything.
