Subject: Stable LAWP advice
Message #21754
As commented by Arvid, I have a stable LAWP setup on a PC that does other jobs.... My PII 400/128 MB also has video editing hardware/software installed, plus the usual office/internet applications..... and is based on EIDE drives rather than SCSI..... but it doesn't fall over running Logic..... This said, I'm SURE that a clean(ish) setup, with your PC dedicated to Logic, is preferable if you are working in an environment where stable operation is 100% essential.... but you can get very close to this with a machine that has to do other tasks..... Most apps that place a strain on your PC will find any weak links in your component/driver chain.... Multitrack audio and video editing are pretty much top of the list in terms of exerting that sort of strain..... so if you are buying a PC for music production, make sure you know exactly what is inside the box (motherboard/video card, etc.) and don't cut too many corners.
