Subject: PC Timings
Message #3508
Sorry to disagree about PC Timings, but it ain't necessarily so. 1. The computer must be set up properly so that it's set for audio. Our Q computer is set this way, running at 450 MHz, and we have no timing problems. Nor do we experience delay between the MIDI and audio. Everything is on target (using 4.0.3). 2. Audio drivers contribute to timing problems if the host software isn't completely doing it's job. On the PC, there are no timing problems with Logic under EASI, only ASIO and MME, both non-Emagic. On the same computer, running VST, the Q people got sample accurate performance. And no crashes. I'll get the setup specs if anyone is interested. Again, every company, including Logic, gets to download the exact same ASIO spec as is available to SEK'D, Sonorus, etc. 3. Older multiport MIDI interfaces can cause problems on the PC. However, when Logic or other PC based programs are run with Unitor 8, everything appears to be rock solid. Let's not be so quick to judge the machines. Personally, I like working with a Mac better, but at this point, I'm PC bound. And I'm finding large numbers of people using Logic and VST and Cakewalk with NO PROBLEMS once the PC computer is set. And they're making money in their studio's too.
