I have the Abit BE6 and I did run into the problems you read about.
For a motherboard that has UDMA/66 built in you can try the
IWILL VD133 it is very well behaved.
It costs about $149 give or take ten bucks at Fry's.
My current music computer is built on IWILL VD133.
Good thing about Fry's is that they give you 15 days to
get your money back if you need to return a motherboard.
