Not true. The Amiga had four decent support chips, one dedicated to graphics
(called Agnus, as I recall), and one dedicated to Audio. The machine used
DMA in a big way, which is why it was fast. Agnus was actually programmed
using a very basic language, and could draw lines and fill regions, which
was very advanced for its time.
I am really sorry to disappoint loads of people out there, but Windows and
MacOS are not bad operating systems. They are not state of the art, and are
not as stable as they could be, but they don't slow the processor down - the
average plugin running in a tight optimised loop, is processor bound, and
doesn't use any OS operations at all. The speed of the plugin is limited by
the performance of your processor, not the OS. The OS will affect things
like disk performance and audio latency, but that is it.
