Apple is indeed also focusing on audio application (at last :-). They have a meeting with all major audio companies directly after the NAMM to discuss the new direction of audio support in Mac OS. Mac OS X doesn't support audio at the moment :-) It even doesn't support device drivers (like USB, PCI, etc) :-) The next version (which I expected to be released at the WWDC in may) will support the IOKit, which allows developers to write device drivers... Mac OS X has memory protection (so a crash won't tear down you system) and real multi-tasking with multi-processor support. I am pretty sure, that we will rework our audio engine to get most of it :-) And sorry, I can't say anything about Windows 2000 (I only know, that it is quite expensive (about 800,- DM, which is about $400)...)
