This caught my eye from the update notes on X.5.4 just out:
AirPort
Addresses AirPort reliability issues with 5GHz networks.
Addresses AirPort issues that may result in slower performance in
Logic Studio or MainStage.

But I still prefer to turn off AirPort when running important sessions.
