Noooo... I have journalling on on my audio drive, and I only have a
10 second wait after recording 16 track takes.

Different subject... we were referring to having the "create
overview"
option selected.

After all these years Im still wondering why Pro Tools does it as you
record and Logic, even though you see it drawing the waveforms while
recording, still has to stop afterwards and redraw the regions..

Chris, I think the redraws are high resolution overviews for the
sample editor to use.
PT, Cubase/Nuendo & most other DAWs I've seen seem to only
need the the original overview created as the files are recorded.

Yeah, that's defenitely something to wonder about. But: A) the waveforms
drawn during recording are just a really draft approximation. And b),
because of that, drawing them should cause minimal CPU overheads, so perhaps
it's just one of several ways to put more focus (or priority) on the actual
audio recording.
On the other hand, a lot of other hosts are drawing accurate (even sample
accurate, ahem...) waveforms on the fly while recording, so it can't be that
much of a tough thing.

Yeah thats what I was just about to reply to the previous post on.
I can dig that Logic would have to redo it since it wont do sample
accurate editing in the Arrange anyways, makes sense to have to redraw
another copy for elsewhere. But still, PT and others do sample accurate
right there in the main window and they only do the drawing once while
recording is going on.. But perhaps this is one of those areas why
people claim PT is so much more efficient for audio recording who
knows.. Maybe Logic and all its features just require too much overhead
so they figured split it into seperate tasks to avoid those lovely CPU
overloads while recording?

I don't know about Pro Tools, but in Logic the image that is created
afterwards is more accurate than the one drawn during recording. Also,
during recording it's just blurted out to the screen rather than
creating a proper graphics object, which explains why the
during-recording-preview disappears as soon as the arrange window has
to be redrawn.
So it would seem Logic tries not to waste any time during recording on
stuff like that.
