I know how to convert Gigasampler files if the file extension is
.gig. That's easy.
But how can I convert them if the file extension is .exe?
Neither EXS nor CDXtract sees these files
I tried changing the file extension to .gig but that's no good either.
These ".exe" files I guess are executable applications in the
world
of Windows, and not actual gigasampler files (they're several
hundred MB or GB in size, implying that they are the stuff that
samples are made of).

You can try opening the .exe with Stuffit Expander.. It should expand
much like a disk image or .pkg file, and perhaps the .gig file is
sitting inside. I do it all the time for extracting stuff like game
mods, or my DVD firmware since Pioneer only makes PC .exe installers for
their drives..

These are likely self-extracting compressed files. You need to run
them first, and they should expand into a .gig file.

Hello f-erenc szabo,
try UnRarX. This Software is free !!
And the preferred one from VSL for an example.
Works great to install the *.gig Files from the *.exe packages.
It also expand other things linke *.rar or *.zip.
If this won`t work, than you must have a REAL WINDOWS INSTALL PROGRAMM.
The windows self-installer files are always *.exe files and work only in
WINDOWS (iiiihhh).
"Virtual PC" would there the solution?

Check with the library manufacturers that you bought the sample
library from. I'm sure they would know.

Did you try changing the extension to zip?
HW
Very often .exe files in case of sample storage are self-extracting
archives - so you don't need the actual archiving program. Under Windows at
least, that is. Under OSX I think the latest version of Stuffit should open
and extract those .exe files created with WinRar (the most often used tool
for self-extracting archives) just fine.
Fwiw, the main reason to use such a file format is that WinRar is very good
at (non-destructive, of course) sample compression. Compression rates up to
even more than 50% are quite often possible.
