I'm still trying to solve how to transfer projects into my lap top. I am
saving them on CD or DVD, moving them onto my hard drive - but when I then
open the project the audio files do not automatically open as well, like
they do in my studio computer (both G4's with Logic 6.4). It will ask if it
should search for them and I say yes - sometimes they find them, sometimes I
have to manually search - and the files might still be on the disc). The
files always open with the "no read/write permission business), and
then
every time I open that song (now from the hard drive) I have to go through
the same thing and it has to re-create the overviews for every audio file as
well. Am I expecting the impossible? It seems to me if I move the entire
folder it should behave as it does in my other computer. Advice?

Copy everything from the CD/DVD to the harddrive and _eject_ the CD/
DVD before opening the song-file. Then you should be fine.

As soon as you use CDr or DVDr this happens due to all files are
secure locked :-/ You should use something like Batchmod to change
recursive the file permissions. This, after you've moved all files to
your harddisk. When I move songs/projects from one machine to another
via cable I get the alert that the harddisk xyz couldn't be found
(the recording path of the first machine says xyz ...), so I have to
chose a new path (the the song itself).
