Subject: Recording with outboard gear
Message #227145
I'm using Logic Express 7.2.1 with an M-Audio FW 410. While I like the internal instruments and the inserts, such as 'guitar amp', I prefer using my POD for guitar. I also use a Proteus 2000 for some kb, brass, and strings. I'd like to set up the POD as an insert like the guitar amp in Logic. That is, I want to be able to record a guitar track while still monitoring a POD setting but then go back and tweak the POD or change the preset. Is there a way to do this? if so, how would I record a final copy so that its permanent? As for the Proteus... Once I'm satified with the MIDI track, is it better to record the output as an audio track for archiving? In fact, is it better to always do that even with the internal synths etc.? Thanks for any advice..

You could use a "Y" splitter to send a clean signal into Logic for later "tweaking" and the other signal straight into your pod for performance and monitoring. I would probably also record the Pod signal as well just in case it's fine and, phase issues aside, it gives you the option of blending the two signals in some way later. Cheers Clive Young
