Are there any users of this earlier version of Logic? I.m having
problems with Audio drivers causing popping and other assorted
glitches, and also these problems affect both recording and playback.
I'm sure it isn't my computer,which is a Dell Dimension 2100- Celeron
1100 processor,512mb ram,multiple boot Win XP (Have 4 os's,one
internet,one studio,one games,one video studio.),uses onboard video
(32mb) 82810 chipset,2nd video card is NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 w/16mb ram,I'm
running Logic Platinum v.5.3 using a Soundblaster Live! 24-bit 7.1
surround sound output, stereo line in sound card. I also have Cakewalk
Home Studio 2004, and that runs fine, as well as 4 other recording
programs, and as the recording programs run on a dedicated partition,
this XP Pro is optimized for audio, no other programs are installed.
I have been trying to work the bugs out of Logic for 2 years, any help
would be awesome

I had similar problems a few years ago and replacing the SoundBlaster
solved everything! So first thing you need to do is get a new
soundcard - the SoundBlaster stuff is very much for domestic use and
can struggle in some pro/semi-pro situations - I have found it
clashes with lots of other hardware and software in a way that a
cheap external USB/FIREWIRE soundcard/interface won't. You can leave
the SoundBlaster installed - just plug in the new interface when you
want to make music. The unit will have a 'buffer' setting in it's
software interface that you can move around until you find
it's 'sweet-spot' with no crackles or pops. Other things that create
interference are Anti-Virus running in the background, system
noises/beeps (you should disable these) and other background programs
running. You computer isn't massively powerful (Logic runs better in
Pentium 4 in my experience) and hasn't got that much RAM so don't
expect perfection - a P4 2Ghz and 1gb of RAM is a nice solid combo.
Don't forget that if you get a new interface you may not be able to
use your computer speakers with Logic without a bit of reative re-
wiring. Getting Logic 5.5 might help too - I found it more stable.
Hope this helps - it's nothing that a $120 interface won't solve!
