Subject: Crashing MacBook Pro
Message #242127
Hello, I am new to the world of Logic but a Veteran of MOTU DP. I have to lecture next year using Logic so I am trying to convert my DP experience. However despite my attempts to install the app, with all current "Updates" It still crashes when attempting to change any Prefs... I have deleted plist and Prefs, taken out all my Plug-ins. The crash report goes somthing like this: Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x00000000bf7fffec Crashed Thread: 0 I suspect core audio and possible my Ultralite MOTU driver maybe interfering? That's my next try at resolving this. The MacBook Pro is 2.15 processor with 1 gig of ram. Midi seems to work, but no Preference window comes up when I click, in fact nothing comes up or crashes. Its a real shame apps and computers can't live together. Maybe one day! Cheers thanks for any info. DH

Subject: Audio & MIDI out of tune with each other
Message #242130
My Audio tracks have suddenly begun playing back sharp relative to my midi tracks!! It sounds terrible! What on earth is going on??!! I have Logic Pro7 on a Power Mac G5 running OSX 10.4.11 Tiger. This has never happened before. Nothing is transposed. All my MIDI objects run standard internal Logic soft synths. Any ideas?

Subject: Environment: Alias Objects Don
Message #242131
Hello All, I'm setting up a complex environment and have run into one snag... Would like to know if the behavior described below is normal. Would also like suggested workarounds, if any. Working in Logic 7.1.1 Situation: 1) I'm generating a "fader event" from a environment button. It outputs: fader 1 , 9 , value ("value" = 0 or 1) This event represetns mute on/off. So when the button is cabled to an audio object (instrument, channel) it activates/deactivates the mute button. 2) If this data is run through a Transformer (set up as an Automation Splitter) and the top cable run directly to an audio object, this mute button data can be recorded as track-based automation (TBA). This works like a charm until I substitute an alias of the audio object receiving this data, in which case the mute on/off information is still received by the audio object, but TBA data does not get written. Troubleshooting: if I insert a monitor object between the Transformer and the alias, clicking the button shows no activity in the monitor. But if I break the connection between the monitor and the alias, the data generated by clicking the button does indeed register. Would like to know if this is expected behavior.

On 31/05/2008, at 9:29 PM, Tony Vincent wrote: > paul... > how do you set this up?-- logic's compressor with a sidechain deesser? > thanks in advance... > best > tv The basic principal is you insert a HPF in the compressor sidechain with cutoff set somewhere between 4K - 8K. By doing this it makes the compressor sensitive to frequencies in the sibilant range and not other frequencies. If you get it set right you have a compressor that sits there doing nothing until an "S" or "T" sound comes in and then it compresses fast and hard somewhere in the 6 - 10dB gain reduction range. For this to work comp needs to be hard knee, peak response, zero or close to for attack and quick release with ratio around 6-8:1, set threshold to achieve 6-10dB gain reduction. If you click the little triangle at the bottom of logic's compressor plugin you will see all the sidechain features including a "Listen" function for actually setting the HPF cutoff. Sometimes a parametric EQ band is used instead but I've not liked results with it - HPF for me. Good luck ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Paul Najar Jaminajar Music Production www.jaminajar.com ------------------------------------

I just got a MBP this week. Coming from a desktop G5, what was new to me was this 'Spaces' thing. If Spaces is active, control + left or right arrow can switch spaces. Maybe this is blocking the appropriate key commands to Logic? In System Preferences, go to 'Expose and Spaces' and check the settings. You can customise most of its features and controls as I recall. Worst case scenario; you can turn it off. - Wade ------------------------------------

Message #242138
Hello All, Working on a project for a friend and they currently have a triton LE. On this triton, they have several pre-arranged songs that I am trying to dump in to logic on individual tracks. It appears I have selected each individual track on the triton, and I have set up logic to recieve these via my m-audio firewire 410...yet every time I record, it dumps all the information on to one track...I have set all the tracks to record, yet it still does this...any ideas?

Message #242139
Hi All, I have just set up the Logic Platinum 5.5. I am using m-audio solo as my audio interface into my laptop. Even though I can hear the signal coming in through the mic clearly, the recording level in Logic is too low hence can hardly hear any audio recording thru the mic. I have set all levels at system preferences up including the control panel of the audio interface. I have also turned the gain up just below peaking point Does anyone have clues as to what I am doing wrong? thanks in advance

I use the "wrappered" Atmosphere and it works fine provided you have the horse power. It's pretty intense on the CPU. Changing the latency really helps take it down but introduces other issues of course... Don't know about Trilogy as I don't use it. GN ------------------------------------

I would not use alias objects at all. Their description reads great in the manual but first, you can never put them into a macro (what you want when your patches grow). Second, the alias is a very old function. Definitely older than track based automation. I do not know the difference between "normal" Fader events and the Fader events produced by the automation splitter but something must be different. Maybe the old alias object is not aware of this event type? However, as we have seen during many upgrades, nobody at Apple looks into this old Emagic code. In my opinion it is safer to stick to the few proven objects. The alternative method is to use cable switchers instead. It can happen that some other object swallows your automation events, then put the transformer as near as possible to the target channel strip. > Troubleshooting: if I insert a monitor object The monitor object is just a display. There are circumstances when monitors don't show certain events, I've even seen that a monitor shows nothing or even blocks some data. Seldom, but happens. The monitor object is very helpful and necessary but not 100% reliable for troubleshooting. > Would like to know if this is expected behavior.
