Thanks. I wouldn't mind the technical details at all!
I can't remember if I emptied the trash or not.
I hope Apple gets this sorted out someday soon!

A not so long ago Windows user, on 5.5.1, one thing is Logic will not
work with more than 1GB of ram. Also I'm not sure about the version
of XP you have, but plenty of guys are using 5.5.1 on Win XP Home or
Pr service pack 2 (I even always had the latest updates up to a few
weeks ago).
I would look into those issues first to get things more stable.

Here is some technical information on the Unix equivalent of the "disk
platter location numbers" that we are talking about:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inode
In particular this seemed relevant from the article above:
The inode number indexes a table of inodes in a known location on the
device; from the inode number, the kernel can access the contents of the
inode, including the data pointers, and so the contents of the file.

Looks like a thorough answer to this question can be found in the FCP 6 User
Manual Volume III: Audio Mixing and Effects, Chp. 11: "Working with
Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro". This is pg. 201 in my edition.

Thank you Stace !
I suppose it's time for me to upgrade... I have FCP 5
Or maybe what the FCP 6 User Manual says is also applicable to FCP 5

Help,
I may have accidentally overwritten the /usr/bin/auval binary with the
AudioUnitSDK. I am getting an error from LogicPro AUManager when I try to
"select reset and rescan selection." An unknown argument of
-new_ui for
auval.
Here is the output:

Will someone please check their /usr/bin/auval version and see if it is

If it is could you also send me a copy attached email to

Hey guys,
Thanks for the feedback. Looks like the multiface 1 will make a nice
audio interface for use with my macbookpro via pcmcia.

This will not in fact work, as a Mac Book Pro does not have a PCMCIA
slot, rather an Express Card 3/4 slot. In order to use a multiface with
this (either Multiface 1 or 2), you will need to purchase one of the
new HDSP Express cards:

Could someone please tell me what Jam Packs Logic Express come with?
Hi All,
I've started to run out of space on my second SATA drive on my G5 dual 1.8
(250 Go).
I am considering replacing it with a 500 Go drive.
Can people recommand a reliable, QUIET, drive that would work in my mac?
Also, does it have to be SATA or will SATA II also work?
Many thanks
Laurent

I've been using Logic 6 pro until recently upgrading to Logic 8. I have been
dismayed to discover that I'm still having the same problems with the Tape
Delay plug-in in Logic 8:
It randomly starts dropping out...a sound will delay maybe 5 times before
stopping for a few seconds, and then carrying on, but often out of time. It
only seems to do this on the first piece of audio it delays on a particular
channel, so I get around it by placing an extra piece of audio before the
one I'm delaying and automating the volume and feedback right down.
Obviously this is quite annoying amd time consuming....Anyone come across
this similar problem, and any ideas how to solve it???
Thanks! Ben

None as far as I know.
Logic Studio comes several.

Sounds like the well-known stuttering problem. Logic gets frightened
if it sees a piece of audio coming and stops. In your case it doesn't
stop but is nervous. No, I don't know a solution. Placing a piece of
audio in front calms Logic Baby down and is a usual workaround.

Only the free AppleLoops that Logic7 also came with,
plus a few extra sounds.
LogicPro comes with way way way more (5 more JamPacks
that used be sold separately).
For the difference in price, LogicStudio (which includes Logic
Pro plus way way way more), is a much better kaboom for the
pistoola than Logic Express.

Hey everyone! I'm using a Samson C03U USB mic to record some music and
mainly vocals into Logic, I'm having a bit of a problem though. After
setting up the aggregator and all that, I can go into Logic and record just
fine, for a little while. For some reason if I record say, take 1, the audio
will be fine, but then take 2 the audio will be delayed by the fraction of a
second, take 3 will be be worse, and so on. The delay is bad enough so that
even on take 2 it'll be just... off, and very distracting. For some reason
going into the Core Audio preferences and changing it to something other
than the aggregator and then changing it back again will fix it, but again,
only for one recording. Also, during long recordings it seems to get worse
over time.
Anybody have any idea what's wrong? It's making recording things VERY
painful. I'd love a fix...
Thanks in advance!

Running Logic Pro 8 on Leopard 10.5.2, using a Macbook C2D.
Hi,
This is probably a mundane question, but does anyone know if there is a way
of getting logic express to play a midi file with quicktime musical
instruments?
There are times when I am away from my studio setup and need to edit a midi
file but as yet I have not found a way of hearing it without the external
sound modules etc.
Many thanks in advance.
pjb.
I found that in OSX update 10.4.10 /usr/bin/auval was updated to version
1.2.x.x
When I loaded the developer SDKs from Apple this was overwritten with the
older version
of 1.1b.1.1. I submitted a bug to Apple for this.
If anyone could email the newer version I would appreciate it. You may need
to open a applications>utilities>terminal session and copy
/usr/bin/auval ('cp /usr/bin/auval ~/') to your home directory so you can
browse to it in your email client attach process.
To see version do an 'ident /usr/bin/auval' in the terminal session.
Thanks!

A preview of the next version of Logic!
As we all patiently wait for the next 8.02 upgrade, I was able to get a
glimpse, and, indeed, an ephemeral copy of what some say is going to be
Logic's new look and feel. So I have created a tutorial in my April's TNT's
that shows this version of Logic and I guarantee it will blow your
collective minds!
I mean, it is truly unbelievable. The Logic designers have come up with new
ways of manipulating regions that if I hadn't seen it for myself, I would
have thought it to be impossible. And, in fact, even after making this
tutorial and demonstrating these fantastical functions, I still can't
believe that what I am witnessing is actually happening. You'll just have to
see it for yourself!
Now I could get into a lot of trouble for previewing this to you so please
don't be republishing this on YouTube! Here's the link:

Enjoy!

Har har...That was great Steve.
I especially liked the voice over timbre.
About 30 seconds in I envisioned the mad rush to ProTools or Nuendo.
Well done!
The floating region was tops.
