Actually i had no graphics problems until yesterday, when i got a couple of
problems at
once. I haven't had any problems with folders but the mixer window came up
all screwed.
The meters appear offset against the channel strip, and the buttons arn't
where the
graphics say they are. The second problem was that logic wouldn't let me
drag any
windows onto my second monitor, they would just lock against the right side
of my left
hand monitor. The third was a big white rectangle over my arrange page, I'm
pretty sure it
was a preference pane of some description as i was then unable to close any
windows
(plugins and arrange.) Couldn't quit and in the end had to force quit from
the apple menu
(as OSX thought logic was still running fine.) A full reboot solved my
problems, as I hope
it does for you,
Mike

Jason - when you see the movie in the upper left hand corner of logic,
try double clicking on it. Weirdly, that closes the window and gets
it to the Canopus every time for me. It appears you can't have both
that window and the Canopus, and simply clicking the triangle doesn't
seem to do it. Double clicking on the movie display itself does.

As others said, since the "Should Never Happen" sounds more like a
debugging note than anything, you may want to submit a bug report or
make a post on the Apple discussion board for Logic. Definitely not
normal behavior.

Did it come back when you rebooted, first of all? Does it do the same
thing if you create a new session and load the same samples? That
sounds like a corrupted session.
But it could also be that you don't have "virtual memory" - disk
streaming - turned on in the EXS, and larger samples than you think
are getting loaded into RAM. I haven't looked at it in Logic 8 yet,
but it should be under the Options button on any EXS.
If it was turned on and the problem comes back in another session -
and as George Leger says, you've confirmed in Activity Monitor that
you're not running out of RAM (which I don't think for one minute,
because it won't let you load that much) - then I'd suggest
reinstalling everything. This is not normal, and something could be
corrupted.
Or I suppose you could have some bad RAM, which you can determine by
running the hardware test CD...I think. Does one of those come with
Mac Pros? If not you can find free utilities. But that usually causes
big crashes, not bizarre messages like that one.

The Key Commands window has (for many years) a search feature.
Just type in a key word at the top right and it'll find stuff with that
word. It's not a good idea to type in entire phrases, because it'll
look for EXACTLY that, and if your phrase is not exactly matched
with what the keycommnand is called, it can't find it. Just single
words are best.
Typing in "capture" shows "Capture Recording", which is
what you're
looking for.

This is a microscopic amount of RAM in a MacPro. You should
buy more RAM for this and many other reasons.
Even another pair of 1GB sticks would give you more than
double the USEABLE-by-Logic RAM.
RAM in the MacPro must be installed in matched pairs.

Hi all!
I have a problem that I have not been able to figure out how to do yet. One
of my clients would like to have their song change tempo gradually over
time. For example, say they have a 5 minute piece that is recorded at 120.
They would like to be able to take that song and stretch it out to say 10
minutes and have the tempo be at say 95 at the 10 minute mark. My first
thought was time stretch however, they want the tempo to change gradually
during the 10 minutes. One of their pieces is all midi tracks, another is
mixed between midi and audio tracks and yet another one is just audio
tracks. I only mention this as I am not sure if the procedure changes
depending on the type of tracks that you have. I am no expert
in Logic so I apologize if this is an elementary procedure.
Thanks!
Michael.
Thanks John!
1. I've tried the Note Force Legato, and all the notes do get closer to each
other, but still there's a small gap between 2 notes...
Also I wonder how to let logic be: when you write a note in score, this
note is exactly the length you wrote in the piano roll.
2.Well, 'stop ' I mean rests, if you set the staff styles to be 4 voices,
and at bar 1 you're having 2 voices in your score, everything is fine. but
since bar 4 you'll only have 1 voices,so the other voice part are full of
rests sign, which is very ugly and also confuse performer. Is there any way
to change the voices number in different bars?
Thanks again!
I'm rebuilding my autoload in L8 and, even though I have "Protect
Cablin/Positions" on in the environment, selecting and deleting an
audio track in the arrange page, deletes both the track, and its
channel strip in the mixer.
WTF, how are you supposed to delete arrange tracks now without
destroying the mixer?
Anyone have any ideas on this?
thanks
Michael Brook
Given that I've FINALLY had time to sit down and just play with the
features of Logic8, instead of just working with what I already know
to finish existing projects, I'm curious about the new compressor
emulations.
I know they say they replicate various vintage compressor types -
opto, FET, VCA, etc...but not actually having access to racks of
vintage gear I don't really know what defines those sounds.
Can anybody clarify this a bit?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I am using Logic 8, but still have 7
installed in case it is needed.

Go to project settings and uncheck "automatic track management" or
something to that effect (don't have logic in front of me to check).

Note Force Legato makes the note one tick shorter than the full value
of (for example) a 1/4 note. The reason for this is that a MIDI device
will be confused if you play the same note twice in a row and it sees
the note-off for the previous note coming at the exact moment that the
note-on for the next note comes. You should not hear one tick, so
don't let it bother you that it's not a full 1/4 note!

Hmm. Not sure what kind of performer won't need rests to count when to
come back in again, so I'm guessing that you mean for one performer to
be playing both voices, is that right? If you create one track with
the 'main' voice (the one that goes all the way through) and a second
track with a region that's just 4 bars long with the 'second' voice on
it, then when you show the arrangement as conductor's score
(double-click somewhere away from the staff on you score) it should
show as you would like it. As always, with score, it may take some
fiddling around to get it just the way you want it. HTH

Other reasons maybe but not this one. If Logic fails to allocate undo/
clipboard memory with any memory amount that meets minimum
specifications, it's a bug. :)
I did a heavily orchestrated piece with virtual instruments only on
my macbook with 1gb. Just had to freeze some tracks to make it work.
Yeah more memory is nice, but that certainly has nothing to do with
this particular problem.
Maurits.
Does Logic have anything like a midi file export that can drop the
composer's tempos and meters into a recording session prior to live
musician recording.
The producer, engineer of a live orchestra session wanted a TEMPO MAP
or midi map from me, but I can't see how to do what they want. They
say that Digital Performer does a tempo map allowing the engineer to
navigate within the session.
This is what I did :
In Logic,
-saved my document under a new name (used the smpte numbers in the
window of the mini QT I used in logic, as they were 2 bars prior to
frame 1/start of music)
-deleted all tracks except an instr one
-put in a bar of some wood blockish sound and extended it to end of
the music
-kept that instr selected
-stretched the green bar at top from beginning to end of music
-file, export as midi
Is this anything like the Digital Performer tempo map ?
Many thanks for replies
How can I save and open MIDI channel strips?

This was done on purpose to avoid note overlapping. I don¹t know how
you
can change it, but a quick fix would be after entering all notes, go into
the piano roll, select all, and then adjust one note to full length. This
will adjust all the notes to full length. Maybe someone else know if this
behavior can be changed.
Sorry, I can¹t help with your second question.
Hans
No, you had it right Dennis. - Sorry not come back to you, been out of the
country for a while.
I tried what you said and then tried opening the resulting .wav file with
Windows Media Player in order to burn to CD. Everything seemed to go ok, but
when I replayed the file in Media Player all that came out was an initial
click and then silence.
I thought all .wav files were compatible with Media Player? Am I missing
something?
Hi luggers,
I have been reading with interest the posts about problems with this
feature.
I am not sure if what I will say is totally right, but this is what
it seems like to me....
Logic will only export whatever audio is selected and assigned to
outs 1-2, and will place it at the point in the quicktime movie that
is at bar 1 beat 1.
Perhaps this is why people have been having offset problems?
It's silly, you don't seem to be able to have a period of silence at
the beginning of the movie (i.e. if your movie starts before the
sequence does), unless you insert a silent audio region in your
sequence and start your movie at bar 1 beat 1....but if the sequence
has lots of tempo changes, etc., it's a drag to have to do this...!!!!
I find this really inconvenient. It is a very good feature that could
be great with a bit more explanation in the manual, and even more
useful with choice of parameters, ex. which outs, from bar where to
where, etc....
I played with this for quite a while to get it to work for me....
Hope this helps,
Scott
I purchased Logic 8 today, running on OS 10.4.11 , dual G5 , 4.5 gig
ram and the Logic 8 update.
What on earth is going on with the CPU ? I've read bits here and there
but nobody has offered a reason or cure that I can see.
I can run a song in Logic 7 which will reach about 50% on the System
performance meter yet if I play it in Logic 8 its in the red and
either crashes or is full of audio dropouts. Its just one core doing
most of the work too ...and not doing it very well by all accounts.
Is there a way to fix this ? I dont want to freeze tracks, use nodes
or any other things I bought a G5 not to have to do.
What a ridiculous problem to release a major update with ???
Please tell me I haven't just wasted my money because I've had to
revert back to Logic 7 to be able to write as normal.
thanks
Paul

Does anyone else have this? Logic 8. When I am going back and forth between
the arrange
and the piano roll, or sometimes editing in the piano roll window, the
position within the
window jumps around to a new location for no apparent reason. It usually
goes to the bottom
or the beginning of the scroll bars location and I can't figure out why.
