Never found a solution, only the above workaround. Thanks guys, this says that it¹s nothing wrong with me then! (at least in this matter...) I guess that it¹s something in the Logics Tascam driver here, and since it comes with Logic, we¹ll have to bug Apple about it... What do say guys? Shall each of us make a bug report and see if we can get this fixed in a coming update? Any more Tascam users want to join in? The more reports they get, the more seriously they will take it... Cheers, Janne

Subject: [LUG] screen span on macbook
Message #236553
Hi folks, I use screen spanning doctor on my iBook so I can have mixer window on the iBook screen and arange page on my 19" CRT. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent prog. for the macbook? The Apple store has a sale on today and I'm thinking of getting one. Can't stretch to a Pro, unfortunately. Cheers, Robert.

"I can't find this answer in the manual. When I add a new drum to an existing drum track, the drum is added, but then if I loop that bar, only the new voice plays in the loops. I stumbled on something that retained all the voices in the loops, but now can't find what I did. Can someone remind me?" You need to merge all the objects on that track, then loop the resulting object. Otherwise you will only be looping the overdubbed object (or part). Gareth Cousins

Don't use the midi connector on your delta-card but use a third party midi connection via USB. This stopped my syystem from crashing a few years ago.

I'd mentioned my own issues earlier and had tried playing with the prefs, down-reving the driver etc. but to no avail. I don't consider myself a Logic power user by any means despite having lived with it (7 and now 8) for a few years but this smells like driver. BTW, thanks to all on this list for making me smarter lately. I switched to getting all the emails in real time since I switched to 8 so I could come up to speed and am amazed at what I have learned here. r

Subject: Re: Arranging Busses in Mix window
Message #236565
This is a reply to #236534.
I don't know how you are trying to do that Gareth, but this is what I would do: 1) Create lots - say 40 - auxes in the mixer. Designate (say) the last half dozen as your FX returns, and if you like, delete the others. 2) Options>create arrange tracks for selected channel strips. 3) "pack folder" and delete the auxes from your main arrange page. 4) Go into the folder and if you need to, re-order your busses. 5) Open the mixer page. It should now look how you like it. FWIW I usually de-select Audio and Inst tracks here so I only see the busses. 6) Un check the chain in the mixer window to de-link it, and go back to your original arrange page. The mixer should stay the same. 7) Save this as a screenset. When you create new auxes now, they will be drawn in order from the lower numbered ones that you have deleted in step 1, and so - as soon as you do a step2 - will appear to the left of your return channel strips in the mixer. Hope this helps, and is not insultingly obvious :-) RJ Film Music OXFORD UK

In Logic8 right-click (for shortcut menu) and you'll be presented with some options, one of which is to place the targetted channel in the Arrange. If you have diverted right-click for the toolbox or alternate tool, then use control-click. f-erenc szabo, smarty pants Z+E+R+O+B+E+A+T "NOW POWERED BY THE MIRACLE OF THE TRANSISTOR!" <http://home.goodmedia.com/~zerobeat>

Can anyone explain this?: I pasted a short stereo region copied from elsewhere in the track I chose to create a new audio file from the pasted region I was asked to choose where in the finder I wanted to save it, and what I wanted to call it. Subject: Track is quiet, waveform is normal and healthy, but when I remove insert, it becomes loud for split second
Message #236570
So My drummer friend recorded a drum track for me, sent it to me and told me he was having some issues with it, the main one being that the track, although he recorded it just fine, is intensely quiet and tinny compared to how it should sound. He uses an audix drum mic kit, so there's nothing wrong in that department. I've checked everything three times, and the only way I can get levels up to a suitable output, is when I turn the bus output to 0 instead of the usual infinity which works fine for me all the time. I've even tried removing the audio track directly from garageband (the original recording) and putting it into an autoload template that I use all the time for my recordings (which have never had this problem before). So what is happening, is when I add an insert and then remove it while the track is playing in the arrange window, the track becomes loud and beautiful, bassy and balanced like it should be. What the heck is happening to my poor drummer's track!?!??! I can upload the files/projects to people over AIM if you think you can help me figure out what is wrong. I have tried everything I can think of, reducing gain slightly to remove the few clipped waves the track had, EQing it differently, removing all inserts, audio energizing it, normalizing it, everything I can think of.... HELP!

For whatever it is worth, the HDs I've had the worst luck with is Maxtor. I've had good luck with Western Digital and Seagate. Kamm

Subject: [LUG] Logic 8 Export Audio to Movie - Audio is out of sync
Message #236574
Hi, I just attempted to export a section of a movie with audio in Logic 8 using the Export Audio to Movie function. Everything is in sync in Logic, but when I open the exported Quicktime file in the Quicktime player the audio is out of sync. The audio is ahead of picture by about a half second. This is from a session that only has audio, no plugins. I did the exact same thing using Logic 7.2.3 and the resulting Quicktime file is in sync. I'm baffled. I have checked all the obvious things. Sample rate is correct on both sessions at 48Khz. Is this a bug that someone else has experienced? Or have I overlooked a setting in Logic 8 that I somehow missed? Any help would be appreciated. Maxtor one touch 300 GB and LaCie D2? 200 GB (not the Porsche) have been reliable. Both are FireWire enclosures. Mostly backups and transfers occasionally tossed in a briefcase and taken home or to the studio. Blair -- blairfisher@shaw.ca
