They don't make a section repeat, they are just for display. Unfortunately

If you mute a track in the environment, the plugins of that track
will stop using cpu power. If you mute a track in the arrange window,
the audio data of the track won't be read from the disk so you'll
save disk i/o bandwidth.

Hey all,
I use Logic Express and when you open up a recording template it
automatically has a Bus
send on each channel with a little mix knob, going to an Effect (i.e
Reverb).
However, when i dont use templates and manually start a Logic Project the
channels do not
have these Bus sends. I just want to know how to create them myself? Im
ashamed that after
all this time i still cant even figure out how to create my own bus sends!
*blushes*
Thanks,
Steve.

You could also freeze the tracks, that is the whole point of that
function. It saves CPU power. If you are working with Midi, using
aliases saves CPU as well and making sure that the majority of your
plugins are applied to AUX's if you want the same thing on multiple
tracks is another way to conserve processing power.

Hi,Steve,
I don't know if this will work for you as I use Logic Pro,but here's
what I do-I simply select and move the master output channel strips
to the right to make some space, then I click+opton+drag the last bus
to the right-the standard copy technique. Then in the track parameter
box (to the left of the mixer) there is a channel drop-down list
where you can change the bus,and to rename it just click on it's name
under the mixer (as it will carry the number of the bus you copied from)
Best,
Ivan
I have bought a ultralite motu. When i play back my originals that i have
written before i get only one track playing. No,i haven`t forgotten to turn
off the solo button. Or changed any of the setting.Has anybody had this
problem with a new unit?thx
Hey- thank you very much- I'll give it a try.

That worked!
Many thanks Chris
I've been using the motu Traveler probelem free for a year-and-a-half.
I'm running Logic 7.1.1 on OSX 10.4.10 on an iBook G4
I installed the Tranzport and fired up Logic just using the laptop hardware.
It worked seamlessly.
The problem is, i can't get them to work together - The traveler will handle
audio I/O, and the Tranzport will show me measure numbers, meters and
labels, but the Tranzport buttons have no effect on Logic when the traveler
is hooked up.
I even tried hooking up the tranzport first, starting logic, then connecting
the traveler. I had the same result.
ideas?

There are some settings you will *have* to change. Make sure that
your AMS and your Audio setting are set up properly in Logic.

Rumor has it that there will be a new version of Logic soon, which is the
reason for
discontinuing the upgrade and breaking compatibility with GB. I'd
definitely wait if you
can, or dig around for a copy of the $49 update. You'd be kicking yourself
if you spent
$300 and another upgrade was announced as soon as you got it.
On the apple support boards, someone reported getting a copy from apple by
escalating
through their support number up to a manager, when they made enough of a
fuss apple
finally gave in. Might be worth a try.

For most Tranzport problems, Frontier recommends going
to "control surfaces" under Logic prefs and clicking
on "rebuild defaults".
If this doesn't solve your problem, they recommend
opening the set-up panel found in the above mentioned
"control surfaces" panel. Delete the Tranzport icon
then close and reopen Logic.
One of these 2 steps has always worked for me when the
Tranzport is acting squirrelly.

>create my own bus sends
First create a new track, click-hold on the track name, then instead of
selecting Instrument 1,2,etc. or Audio 1, 2, etc., select from the menu that
says Bus 1, 2, etc. Once you've got a bus track you can select the plugin or
plugins for that track (like reverb).
On the other tracks, if you want all or part of their signal to go to the
bus track, you click-hold one of the sends buttons on the channel strip and
select which bus track to send to. Then you can dial up how much of that
track's signal to send.
Hope this makes sense.
Btw, I'm new here. Hey folks.
brilliant!
and easy too.
working great now
thanks James.
Hi,
Recently I had a situation where I needed to paste the contents of
one song into another. I need to paste at a specific position.
However, either using copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop resulted in the
tracks being pasted in at bar 1. I was not able to duplicate the
problem with simpler songs, so maybe it was specific to this
particular one (very long) song. However, in all cases automation was
not copied. Any ideas?

No, channelstrip mute is post-plugin, pre-send, and instantaneous. Try
it with Logic's level meter (helper) plugin.

And free any CPU used by plugins on that channelstrip (for most
plugins anyway). But there is some delay involved in muting/unmuting here.

Hi there, I have recently re-installed my operating system and subsequently
logic etc because I was/am having kernal panic problems...
However, my library of sounds is now not being recognised by the exs24! I
have put the files in the samplers instuments folder as usual but they are
not showing! They are AIFF files and worked fine before I had to reinstall
tiger and logic etc!
Have I miss placed some exs24 settings in the process and have to create new
intrument settings for all my sounds?! Im at a bit of a loss and cant really
see what Im doing wrong! Please help if you can!
If I havnt explained things well enough then please let me know!!
Many thanks
James
Hi all ........I (and the band) currently have 3 controller keyboards, a
drum pad triggering ultrabeat sounds and a micro-korg; all going into logic
(on seperate channels) and each playing their own respective software synths
by means of the "split demix by channel" function.......so far so
good.
My problem is that we have our first gig in 15 days and I need to set up the
controller keyboards to change the sounds for each song.....My knowlege of
Controlling Software synths is shady at best....so i came up with a less
than ideal workaround for this a few days ago..... this entailed... (deep
breath!)setting up all the synth sounds that we need for the gig on their
own separate track (some twenty or so of them) then bypassing them all so as
they all wouldn't play at the same time....I then set up a marker for each
song and a "goto marker" command was set up on one of the
controller
keyboards to be able to change songs remotely........ie when I press button
8 of my controller keyboard, the spl jumps to marker 8 and the automation
kicks in and all the relevant synths and sounds for song 8 are now
"unbypassed" .......
ok should work in theory, but it doesn't............most of the newly
"unbypassed" synths don't want to take to their incoming midi
channel so it
sounds like a really bad (or good!) eighties sci-fi film
So the criteria are as follows!
In fifteen days or less......!
I need to be able to press a button (well maybe just a few!) on my
controller keyboard and the synth will magically change from ....say a nice
bubbly bass on an es1 to an other-worldly bell sound on the efm
at the same time maybe, just maybe ,the drummer and guitarist might also be
able to change their sounds......without needing from me a) guidance, b)
constant reassurances or c) general mothering :)
equipment.....m-audio oxygen,
m-audio something(cant remember the name ...you kno the black jobbies with
the blu screen)
medeli-- cheapo drum computer (only sends midi on channel 10 for some
reason)
motu fastlane
micro korg
yamaha 01v96 running on mlan network
logic 7.2.3
mac, intel, osx 10.4.10
Hi paul, i just had a eureka! moment from reading your message.......
"1. By inserting a cable switcher between midi input and instruments
and getting it to respond to incoming program changes you can direct your
midi to any connected instrument or instruments you want.
2. By using the "Performance Preset" features Logic has available.
You save a whole channel strip as a preset and these are selectable via
incoming program changes."
i like the idea of option two but any would do..............i'm trying to
set this up for three of us (guitarist, guitarist and drummer) to play our
own parts seperately..there would be no splits or layers.......we just need
to be able to change sounds..........could you explain how i might
practically go about cabling this in the environment
many thanks

Thanks,Eddie.Could you tell me what you mean by AMS settings and like what
do i have to change, example on my Audio settings.thx
Well I have just bought my first home studio and logic express is the
software I bought. I really love this software but I am kind of
dissappointed with the effects for guitar. I play really heavy metal and I
want to record with some real heavy effects and distortion. The metal
distortions logic has are ok but nothing spectacular in the amp setting. I
just wanted to know if it's possible to get more effects for logic somehow
or what I should do if I want to get more effects..
Thanks,
ryan

Hey everyone - thanks for all the replies.
(sorry I didn't respond earlier - I thought I had it set to receive email
notifications of replies, and since I didn't receive any, I didn't think
anyone had answered!!! D'oh!)
Lots of good info there.
I've just been using the burn-in numbers for communication with the director
and left Logic set at 24. I'll take a look at all your input again and
decide if I should do it different for the next work print. (I just hate
looking at two sets of numbers)
Seems like Logic should come to the party and have a 23.976 rate, eh?
Thanks, again, everyone!!!

I'm a jazz/fusion bassist, not a metal guitarist so I'm not sure what you
may be looking for but you may want to check out Amplitube
(http://www.amplitube.com/) for plugin guitar effects and modeling
Take care,

Well, if you want to stick with virtual environment, you should take
a look at all these guitar plug-ins:
Guitar Rig, Amplitube and some others I forgot now..
:)
But... as you are a Heavy Metal guitar player, I think you must have
a lot of guitars, effect racks and a powerful amp or cabinet.
Why not put a Shure SM-57 in front of an old, loud and good Marshall
cabinet and record the real thing?
Much better than the fake software ones.
Just my 2 cents.
There's a plugin that comes with LE called "bitcrusher" that
produces a varying range of gnarly distortions. You might try that.
