I'm going to second that.
I have a first Generation 2 Ghz MacBook with 2 Gig of Ram.
I've had it for over a year and it gets used all day every day
with no problems at all.
Logic works great on it.

Aha, I found it - I didn't have "Plain background" enabled under
the Arrange View menu.
Now I got color!

If it's a short piece of audio then use the "Open In Apple Loops
Utility" in the local audio menu in arrange.
If it's a long piece of audio then you'll first have to calculate the
original tempo for the audio, then bounce the file to disk with the
song set to that "original tempo" as this then tags the bounced
audio
with it's original tempo. Bring that bounced audio back into logic
and you'll notice in the region info box that "Follow Tempo" is
now
an option. Check it and change song tempo as you like and the audio
will follow.

George, Calum and Sascha, many thanks for your very helpful replies.
There's a (possibly) happy twist to my story, after some rave reviews on
various usergroups, I took a chance and bought Disk Warrior as a last ditch
attempt to save my harddrive. Both Apple's Disk Utility and Drive Genius
diagnosed the drive as so damaged that they couldn't even verify it, yet
Disk Warrior managed to (apparently) repair it in 5 minutes. I suppose that
problems may redevelop if I've only addressed the symptoms and not the
cause, but for the time being, it looks ok. However, I'll use SuperDuper to
make a bootable image, just for peace of mind!
Anyway, my advice to anyone who thinks that their drive is irreparably
damaged with serious directory structure problems is to take a chance on
Disk Warrior.
Thanks again,
Paul

Same here (well, ok, apart from the wellknown Logic quirks).
Maybe the latest Macbook generation experiences a weaker hardware quality
assurance? Perhaps due to being so popular?

Thanks for the suggestions, but nothing is working over here. No
matter what I do, the color that displays when I enable 'plain
backgound' is the same as I set it many versions ago, 66% greyscale.

Why didn't you follow the Waves installer procedure? It will install them
correctly. Which version of the Diamond Bundle are we talking about? Which
type of Mac and which OS? Have you registered and authorized them in your
waves account and on your ilok?

I still don't understand the reason why they stopped selling this
upgrade...
But since I don't have an Intel machine anyway I had nothing to gain
by it, so I'm just going to wait until v8 and hope they release a
version that will run on this machine. (If not I may not upgrade
immediately, as that would be the only reason I'd have to consider
new hardware -- this machine works great for everything I do.)

I don't have an intel machine but rather a G5 dual 2
gig with 4.5 meg ram, several HDs etc. I'm become
accustomed to the above msg and I've come to see it as
a normal part of my work flow.
I wish I could give you a more specific answer but i

Well i too used DW but I've never seen it fix a disc
in 5 minutes. Anyway, drives have gotten so cheap that
I wouldn't trust your for any important data. Why take
the chance?
JP
Hi all,
I have two questions. One is I cannot reach EXS24 library. When I try to
open and choose a preset, system starts to search all my harddisk and cannot
open it. But I already installed it. So that is not logical. How can I
relocate library or solve it? Second question is I wanna insrease the
Sculture presets collection. Where can I buy? Or if anyone have free
presets, can share?
Thank you.

Hi James,
The reason that I'm tempted to give this (apparently) fixed drive a chance
has nothing to do with the cost of a new drive, it's more to do with the
multiple days that it would take to reinstall my entire system and get my
audio apps up, running and reauthorised on a new harddrive. I'm assuming
that - as long as I SuperDuper clone my main drive in it's current (working)
state - if the drive goes down a second time then I can switch fairly
painlessly to my backup drive? Maybe I'm being very reckless in continuing
to use this drive though? - I'm open to persuasion.
Thanks,
Paul

I just saw these as I was initially posting this. I watch the demos. I look
for 2 things: good
coverage of Logic's features and the instructors tone of voice. Some
people's voices tend
to put me to sleep, where they talk too soft and others fluctuate too much.
I listened the
these and found they met both my criteria. I think I might give it a shot.
Thanks
Anyone else with opinions on any Logic tutorials?

How can I relocate library or solve it?
Which Logic Version are you using? If it is 7, your EXS Instruments should
be here:
HD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments

Check on your ESX24 preferences so you have the correct disc selected
as where to look for samples. You reach that menu by opening the
EXS24 graphic interface and click at "otions" at the upper right.
There you chose "Preferences..." In the box labeled "Search
samples
on:" there is a drop-down where you tell the sampler where to look
for samples.

Hey Juan,
I work on a PB G4 1,67 and this behaviour is quite the same. But, I
discovered that if you are not running at extreme load this message
appears only the FIRST time I hit play. After this you hit play again
and the machine runs OK then.
Seems to me that this is due to how the OSX's core audio system works:
when it encounters some CPU spike it reserves some buffers or
whatsoever according to the required power. After this evrything goes
fine.

Here I have several different versions intalled in different
computers and everything works OK.
Maybe you should Upgrade or reinstall.
But try again : Logic Preferences panel-> Display-> Arrange tab->
Click on the center of the color retangle->
Close the preferences panel -> On the arrange window local menus ---
View -> Plain Background (selecting this item will make it checked).
Try reinstalling 7.1.1 (if it doesn't work)
If it won't really work maybe you should upgrade to 7.2.3.
Good Luck

I can understand this totallly but I would look at this from the same
angle but perhaps opposite side. The reason to spend a day or two is
to get it right the first time.
If something gets wrong you might spend weeks if not months trying to
figure out why everything almost works but not quite.

Hi,
As someone who does this kind of restore for a living (if you can call it
that...)
it may not be as complex as you think. You could CLONE your data to a new
drive
(best to do this from an OS X cd with drives attached to your CPU) .
And then replace your old drive.
Since various software attribute thier "authorization" to a CPU or
via iLock
and other keys..it might not be as tedious as you think. When I did
a similar thing last month to my own system-cloning worked best
because it kept stuff in the System Application Support folder.
A system reinstall will not neccessarily put this stuff back (it will be
in the Previous Systems Folder- I ALWAYS do archive and reinstall
unless there are disk space issues)
The Clone -however might take a long time...depending on how much
data you have on your drives...
For the record my Wave Arts Plug-Ins did need the Machine authorization,
but i didn't need anything other than the orginal return email for that...
and it's all worked fine. Some stuff (like Philharmonik) just needed
to be pointed to the correct directory.
Obviously this can be a PITA but better than losing your work to disk
damage...

I often switch between DAE/ TDM and Core audio. Recently there
seems to be an anomaly in Core. When I play back in record enable I
can hear myself over the play-back as if audio input monitoring were
turned off, which It isn't. Everything works fine in DAE/ TDM. No
problem there. I have also lost the use of my pedal control in Guitar
Rig2. Logic sees the controler it changes numbers with each pre-set
change but no pedal, which by the way works fine in stand alone. I
recently upgraded Ivory and installed East West Ministry of Rock. I
don't think anything else has changed. But there has been a few
instances of pilot error in the past. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Hello to all!
I struggle in understanding how the I/O plugin works ....
What I wanted to do was: During a recording session route the
incoming snare to a second track with an outbord compressor ... and I
thought that the plugin could have been helpful somehow?
Any suggestions? Recommendations?
Thanks, achim
