Here's something that might help:
There's a small app called AUmanager which you can get here for free:
http://www.grantedsw.com/aum/
That's a great tip.
Thanks_joel

Logic only supports 16 outputs to an aux from any single virtual
instrument in despite the fact that in a recent update (7.2?) they
claimed they had lifted this limit. Pairs is typical and allows for
more flexible & stereo or panning sounds more easily. You can open a
mono Aux for one out or a stereo Aux for a pair. For each pair pan
left to get out 1 or right for two etc...

Separate UB's doesn't simplify anything really and may use extra CPU.
Having each sound separated for mixing is typical and not over
complicated IMO.

The best solution performance and latency is a PCIe based system.
Sound quality is driven by converter quality and latency is is as a
direct function of the driver quality.
Apogee Symphony seems to be the current champ for sound and low
latency but may be a lot more I/O & $$$ than you need. Under this are
the RME solutions that have recently been updated to support PCIe.
The Multiface2/ Digiface, HDSP 9652/ 9632 are all fine sounding, low
latency and have the BEST software & hardware interface features on
any system I've ever seen.
PCIe will always offer lower latency and less CPU drain than any
firewire system.
Kind regards

Apogee Symphony works with any of the Apogee interfaces, so the # of
I/O's is scalable from 2 to... lots.

This may not be your issue, but I had troubles early on with scrambled notes
and missing end pgs.
*) If you select Print Preview at the Print dialog, it will make a pdf and
show it in Apple's Preview app. It will usually be screwed up.
*) The order that works is to
1) File>Print... this opens the print dialog box
2) Select PDF>Save as PDF... (to a location)
This will create a successful PDF file viewable in Preview or Acrobat.
(this goes for some other software as well.)
Side note: creating an 11x17 document makes a nice solution for printing
orchestral scores. You can print directly if you have such a printer, or
print (fit to pg) then enlarge at a copy shop with respectable results.
Hi!
I'm using a Korg Microkontrol with latest firmware+Logic Express 7.2.3 and I
noticed there are a couple of bugs:
1- No modulation - the MK does not seem to send modulation using the stick.
It does, however, send pitch bend on the x axis.
2- Some parameter labels get "stuck" in the LCDs as if they don't
refresh
properly whe scrolling through pages.
Can anyone else confirm this? Am I doing anything wrong?
Hi
I'm using a MacBook Pro, 2.33Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3GB SDRAM. So I wouldn't
og thought it would have been an processor issue??? Any ideas?

EVB3 is multitimbral (upper keyboard + lower
keyboard + bass pedals like a real organ), thus
the MIDI channel of the AudioInstrument track
is relevant.
MIDI Channels 4-16 play nothing.

Hello,
I need some advise regarding a decision I have to make. Currently I am
running Logic Express 7.23 on an intel iMac with 2 gigs ram. I control this
using a Roland XP-30 with 5 expansion cards: Session, Orchestral, Techno
Collection, Keyboards of the 60s & 70s, and Bass and Drums. The music
I
write makes heavy use of Hammond Organs, Rhodes pianos, guitars, bass and
acoustic drum sounds. So far I haven’t done much with synth sounds but
that may change. I also have Ozone 3, the Melodyne plug-in and fairly
large collection of Apple Loops, particularly drums. I currently have the
money to upgrade to Logic Pro. If I do I will probably also ditch the
XP-30 and go with a Novation Remote 61 SL because of its software control
features. I have three concerns though:
Pro 7 can easily cover the Rhodes and Hammond sounds but how is it for
non-synth bass sounds, and can Ultrabeat do a decent job with acoustic drum
sounds? I’ve also heard that Ultrabeat isn’t that user friendly.
The second concern is the draw on my cpu. My current setup makes almost no
significant demands on my cpu because much of what I do involves sequencing
on an external synth. If I go with Pro 7 and the Novation controller then I
will go entirely with software instruments with the resulting increase in
cpu usage. I don’t generally go in for elaborate productions but I’m
still concerned about the adequacy of my computer.
My third concern is with Guitar Amp Pro. After some initial tests with
the Express guitar amp plug in I opted to mike my guitar amp (a Roland
BC-60) because it just sounds so much better. Is Guitar Amp Pro a
significant improvement?
Another question, this time not as Logic-related. My audio interface is a
Edirol FA-66. For the most part this has served me well but the mic preamps
are well… digital sounding. I’m considering purchasing a Universal Audio
Solo/110 tube preamp to warm up the sound. However—and this is where my
ignorance of technical aspects becomes really apparent—I would still have to
go through the FA-66 to get the sound into my computer. Doesn’t this mean
that I would still be going through the FA-66 preamps?
Thanks for all your help,
Greg
Hi everyone,
When bouncing I sometimes get error file already exists error = -48.
This message comes irregularly.
This is a real bug, please answer if anyone has come across the same problem
and how you worked around it !
The file is written, you can even write an audio Cd.
The problem starts when you want to use it in the Windows environment.
Windows does not recognize it as a wav file but rather as a raw file.
Definitely something wrong with the file.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks.

In the OBJECT's parameters, is the loopbox unchecked? (So
without anything selected on the track).

Thank's for the reply Dave!
You're probably right, but I would still like to hear from other
MacPro users: does Logic behave properly whith large projects or
are you getting unexpected quits from bouncing, save as...,
importing audio, opening certain preferences windows etc. These
quits are far from unexpected for me, and once I get these
crashes, the only way to deal with it is to restart Logic without
Kontakt2 or Altiverb, save and restart with these plugs back in.
I used to blame it on Altiverb and had the AudioEase tech support
search for the bug using my project. They found a bug alright, but
it wasn't this one... I have experienced the bug without Kontakt2
installed at all so I don't think that's the culprit either. I
have tried to install under a new user profile on the same machine
and reinstalled everything but OSX without any luck. I have
repaired permissions and run System Optimizer and Maintanance with
no luck. After 2 months of searching and reading posts on similar
bugs I get the feeling it is ram-related. I read on Apple's Logic
discussion forum that someone with the same symptomes claimed they
were only happening with projects exceeding 2 gb. I cannot say
with 100% certainty that this is the case here, but I'm keeping an
eye on the RAM meter. Will know more later.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Check the midi channels of the Instruments Audio Object. Set to 'All'
to be sure and check Chan 1, 2 & 3 with your controller. You should
hear Upper, Lower and Pedals respectively.

Click in the background of your arrange, so nothing is selected - you will
most likely see the loop box checked. Uncheck it and you'll be fine.
Everything you see in the parameter-box whenever no part is selected will be
valid for each new recorded part. Which, at least sometimes, is a real time
saviour. Set a quantize value and everything you record will be quantized
automatically. Check the loop box and everything will loop automatically.
Great if you are a lousy keyboarder as me.

Sascha
On page 628 of the Reference manual there's a reference to 'Wait
for note'.
I was trying to set it up, but it doesn't appear where the manual
says it should be.
It says it should be in 'Song Settings', 'Recording' tab.
The manual says:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
When Beginning: Count In
If Record Pre-roll is disabled, a pull-down menu will be activated,
allowing you to set the desired Count In period that precedes a
recording.
1)Wait for Note: keeps running in a "symmetrical" loop of one
beat,
centered around the start point of the recording, until MIDI events
are input. As the loop starts half a beat before the start point,
you are allowed up-beat notes of up to half the value of the bar
denominator (e.g. with n/4 time, a maximum of 1/8 notes).
2)No count-in: the recording begins with no count in.
3) x Bar count-in: x bars of count-in.
4) x/4 Count in: The count-in's time signature may be set here.
These settings are useful when the count-in falls across a bar
change.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Items 2), 3), & 4) appear there, but I don't see 1)
Is there some other setting somewhere that must be made?
Thanks very much.

So you have to change the midi channel of the instruments higher
than 3, the default midi channel follows the instrument number
(instrument 5 has midi channel 5 etc). It's very simple, just
select the instrument in arrange and change the midi channel in
the info box.

my guess would be that the instrument channel strip ( of the non-
audio producing channel) is set to the wrong midi channel... try
changing it to ch1...

The letter "L" is a default key comand to toggle the loop
function.
Perhaps you're hitting that key?

Anyone using Storm Drums with Logic?
How good?... the demos sound perfect for a project I'm about to
begin, I've been burnt in the past by cpu intensive plugs so how do
"Kompakt" & "intakt" integrate?
I'm still on a DP 1.25 G4 (will jump to the next MacPro when
released)

Help! I'm using Logic Pro 7.2.3 on a mac mini 1.66 core duo with 2 gigs of
ram. I have been using this system flawlessly for a year, but now when I
record new audio into any of my songs, it's delayed. In order to compensate
and play parts back correctly I have to set a delay of -105 in the arrange
window. I've heard of terrible latency on the way in, but never on playback.
What should I try? any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance,
Caleb.
Hi folks, I'm back with a small menu of probs - would really
welcome help or pointers to relevant topics.
Commissioning my new Mac Pro 2.66 I've got all my Intel-ready
plugins working and have successfully loaded an 11- Audio track
song. MIDI works, too.
An important reason that I upgraded was that with my G5 1.6 ( with
3 G RAM) and the samples on a 2nd internal dedicated SATA drive
Synthogy Ivory could only deliver 44-note polyphony ( before
'Disc slow' error).
(RME Fireface 800)
Problem 1.
Placing the same sample drive in the Mac Pro, I now get 54-note
polyphony. Any suggestions on how to improve this? Seems a lot
to spend for another 10 notes :-)
(£100 a note)
Would Native Command Queuing make a difference, and of so, how to
I turn it on? Also willing to try putting 2 matched drives in to
act as a software striped Raid array.
( Or a Raptor?)
Problem 2.
Even more daunting atm is the fact that I can't play the song
without an immediate 'Core audio' alert and the song hangs. This
even happens when I switch the Audio Engine to internal audio.
Problem 3.
Troubleshooting the above has had me alter the Audio Engine
buffer size and hardware back and forth, and it takes at least
3 times longer to 'relaunch' than under my G5.
Problem 4.
Loading a new song takes a similar multiple of G5 times.
Problem 5.
Loading a new song takes over Finder. I can't click anywhere.
On the G5, I could happily do anything I wanted with any other
app. during load times.
Could this be entirely due to the fact that I only have 1Gig
RAM in there?
Activity Monitor shows an enormous amoung of Virtual Memory for
Logic and my other apps. and my weak knowledge of Mac tells me
that this requires a lot of HD access. Does the drive have to
work constantly because I haven't enough RAM and is this the
simple solution to problems 2 -5 ?
I also suspect that there might be some crucial differences with
the change to Intel but I can't tell what's what - I'm only 3
days into this new beast.
