In an earlier post I said the USB cable supplied with CME has a different
plug. That's correct,
but since a few minutes ago I found out why Logic does not receive midi in
messages when
using the cable supplied with my MOTU fastlane midi interface.
Yesterday I bought a USB extension cable, as the CME cable is too short for
my setup. After
having played the first few notes, Logic Express does not receive any data
anymore. This kind
of behaviour does not occur when using a smaller cable together with the
extension cable.
And today I found out that the fastlane usb cable is even longer. No wonder
that Logic
Express did not receive any midi message.
So if you're using a longer cable than the one supplied with the CME, this
could be causing
your problems.
Hi Ali,
two important questions:
1. does your CME appear in the audio/midi configuration of OSX?
(programs>utilities)
If not: you did not install the CME driver or did install it the wrong
way.
2. do you use the cable supplied with the CME? This one is rather short, so
I another one.
I had the same problems like you until I discovered that the plug to insert
in your CME differs
from the USB cables commonly used in Europe.
USB stands for Universal Serial Bus, but forget about the universal....
About the different USB-plug: I'm quite willing to prove it to all
non-believers with a pic of
the CME plug and pics from my other USB plugs. Just send me an e-mail.
Mercenery Audio has these listed for U.S. $1,450
(1,086 Euros).
You have to add shipping and 20-30 procent of the entire sum which would
bring this one up to almost 2000 dollars. Maybe with this new lower price
tag they will sell more and bring the other high end mics a bit down in
price too. It's still ridiculous that the U87 is twice as expensive as a
UMT70s when they are basically the same and impossible to tell apart
soundwise. I bet if Gefell had chosen to stay with the can look they would
be taken more seriously. Ironically the Gefell have a much better design in
use but they don'´t look like most people expect them to.
PS I love the Gefells so I also love the Neumanns it's just the price
difference I find over the top.
I found this information on http://www.usb.org/about/faq/ans5
Q1: How long of a cable can I use to connect my device?
A1: In practice, the USB specification limits the length of a cable between
full speed devices
to 5 meters (a little under 16 feet 5 inches). For a low speed device the
limit is 3 meters (9
feet 10 inches).
Q2: Why can't I use a cable longer than 3 or 5m?
A2: USB's electrical design doesn't allow it. When USB was designed, a
decision was made to
handle the propagation of electromagnetic fields on USB data lines in a way
that limited the
maximum length of a USB cable to something in the range of 4m. This method
has a number
of advantages and, since USB is intended for a desktop environment, the
range limitations
were deemed acceptable. If you're familiar with transmission line theory and
want more detail
on this topic, take a look at the USB signals section of the developers FAQ.
Hi Folks,
I'm looking for a decent sound card for an Apple Mac G5 2.5 Quad (pre-intel)
that will allow me to record multiple tracks simultaneously into Logoc Pro
7. I'm using a Behringer 1222fx mixer with group output and so just need a
few pointers as to what to look for regarding a sound card. Also, when I
upgrade will the new sound card fit and work OK when it's installed in a Mac
Pro?
Many thanks :)
I've been able to get by to this point with Logic 7.1.1. Thinking I'd be
ahead of the game ignoring the 7.2 update, I waited until just this past
week, and in a complete change of heart, decided to spring for the update.
Interestingly, I did so, assuming Logic 8 is just around the corner. Why,
you ask? Consider this...
While awaiting Logic 8, I had the disturbing notion at one point, that if
'8' is problematic or awkward or seems to require a complete re-read of the
docs, I would feel more comfortable sticking with '7' until the problems are
behind us.
As someone who is about to pounce on the next Mac Pro (been hobbling along
with a Quicksilver G4), I wanted something that would run natively on an
Intel-based Mac that was stable and familiar. I could work very nicely in
Logic 7.2.3 until, (dare I say?) Logic Pro 8.1 ships.
If I wind up running 7.2.3 for six months, it will be worth the cost of the
update.

Dear all, I recently upgraded from Logic 5.5 to Logic 5.5 Platinum on PC.
These are all fairly old products because I'm still on a PC with XP, but
they work very well. I used the logic 'big box' deal (with the basic Logic
5.5) for many years (purchased in 2002).
However I can't get my EXsamples (previously used with EXSP24) to show up in
EXS24 in Logic platinum. I've moved them all over to the folder 'C:Program
FilesemagicLogic 5Sampler Instruments'
but in logic they don't show up in EXS24 in the instrument editor etc. All
the file types are .wav or .aif
What is the problem? If anyone can help I would appreciate it, especially
because I have this great sample CD called 'Xtreme Analog Samples' which is
really great and I want to use it.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Peter,
thanks to your tip I can finally edit sounds "on the fly" instead
of having to use the mouse.
I noticed that in the arrangement window I had to choose "view track
automation" and then
select the parameter which I wanted to change. Do you know if it's possible
to simultaneously
change two parameters of the same plugin, for instance cutoff and resonance,
and have Logic
record these changes?
Which supported surface do you use?
Kind regards,
Bart

I am 99.(9)% sure this is caused by Digi CoreAudio driver, which makes the
whole system really unstable. Just like any native Digi hardware, 002 rig is
rock solid under PT, but next to unusable in any CoreAudio app, including
Logic. Just an opinion of a former Digi user.

Hi
When trying to use more than 3 instances of evb3 the plugin appears but
makes not noise. Any ideas?
Thanks
Hi all!
I'm using MacPro Dual 2.66 with 4 GB RAM and just discovered that in the
Activity Monitor,
whenever a song uses more than 2 GB, the Real Memory cell in the monitor
jumps to
16.777.216,00 TB, which is strange to say the least. I suspect that might be
one of the
reasons why Logic is very unstabile in certain projects. I have been
suspecting Kontakt2 or
Altiverb but they're just helping pushing Logic over that limit. This
doesn't happen on G5s to
my knowledge. It would be interesting to hear if any MacPro users can get a
sane reading
from the Activity Monitor once a project crosses the 2 GB border. I've read
two other posts on
Apple's Logic discussion forum from people with the same symptoms.
Have a nice weekend!
Ginge
I have only been a MAC /Logic user for about 6 weeks. Coming from the PC
world, and being a former Audtion and Cubase user, at first I hated Logic
but now I'm starting to really, really enjoy it.
Since my version of Logic Express did not come with a secret de-coder ring,
I've had to rely on a lot of great info here which has helped tremendously.
I have also burnt out my retinas endlessly scanning the manual. The
environment is still a huge mystery to me but, otherwise, Logic is great to
work with.
I recently updated to 7.2.1, as well as OSX 10.4.9. I now find that about 1
out of every 5 times I try to open LE, I get a "Logic has failed to
open"
message and I must force quit to close it. A restart always returns all to
normal. The last time this occured I also tried to open Garageband after
force quiting LE. GB gave me the same message.
This only seems to happen with LE/GB and no other app. Perhaps it is an OSX
issue and, since I am a noober for both Mac and LE, perhaps its a dumb user
issue. In any case, any thoughts or suggestions for a solution would be
greatly appreciated.
I have an 20" 2.16 Intel core 2 iMac, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB LaCie external
HD.

Have you tried the UM900? I keep hearing very good things about it,
but have yet to get an opportunity to try for myself.

? Sounds strange. The elements in the plugin window should move when
you operate your controller. Then Logic gets the right messages. It
shouldn't be necessary to show the automation or select anything there.

Logic records automation if you set the automation menu of the
channelstrip to "touch" or "latch". You can operate as
many knobs
simultaneously as you want. No need to watch in an automation view.
Actually you need more graphics power while you observe the writing
process.
> Which supported surface do you use?
I use LC Xmu, a software which emulates a Logic Control. I have two
instances of LC Xmu, that means Logic "sees" two Logic Controls. I
have a bunch of other controllers, they go either to LC Xmu or are
mapped on demand in the environment. The latter is not possible with
Logic Express.

Sorry no, I only found out about the UMT70s because I did some backing
vocals in another studio years ago. They had one and I liked it a lot so I
checked it out. I used to do backing vocals more or less as a job so I had
tried all the standard mics by the time my roads crossed with Gefell.
Gefell is a well kept secret and I have never seen any of the other mics
that they produce. I have seen some reviewed and according to those they are
great but no hands on experience.
I'm working with a CME too. The trouble is that the stop and back too zero
command in
Logic is different from the information CME sends.
So: stop pressing stop once = pause, pressing stop twice = back to zero
pressing back to zero just does not work
All the other buttons and faders are working, they just need some
programming. If you need
any help: just send me a message.

Hmmm this guy has 800 GBP, the Lawson is twice that. I agree with you it's a
nice one but this is the kind of mic you buy when you have everything else
and money is of little concern.
Could someone please help me with this issue?
I am mixing a few audio tracks for which I am trying to add smooth and
continuous volume and pan changes. I have drawn in the changes I think
I want, but for some strange reason, when I play back the track, the
volumne automation is "choppy" - it fluctuates up and down
sporadically
when it should be moving smoothly. This is also happening with a Send
1 automation (where I have a reverb set).
Does anyone know why this may be happening - it would be nice for the
volume to change smoothly!
My setup: G4/500 Logic 7.2 Motu 2408mkii interface
Thanks for any help or insight someone can provide!

Lawson does make great mics. I have their L47MP, and other than being
a bit bright on strident female vocals (that's why I have an AEA
R84), it's my go-to mic the majority of the time.
These mics are significantly out of the price range of the original
poster, however.
I just clean installed OS X 10.4.8 and Logic Pro 7.2.3 on a brand new 320
gig HD with Waves Platinum Bundle latest update 5.x. My AU Validation went
smoothly with Logic but it gets stuck with Waveburner and until now I have
not been able to open Waveburner at all. It never gets past the Waves L3
Ultramaximizer AU plugin. What can I do to remedy this situation.

Here's something that might help:
There's a small app called AUmanager which you can get here for free:
http://www.grantedsw.com/aum/
It allows you to create different sets of AU plugins for different
purposes. What it does is this:
In your folder Yourdrive/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins is a folder called
Components where all your AU's are stored.
AUmanager creates a new folder called Components (Disabled).
Let's say you have a complete set of AU's for Logic, but you only
want basic stuff (or nothing) for Waveburner.
Make a new cut-down set.
The "unwanted plugins are moved to the Disabled folder.
Use Waveburner
When you're done, re-select your full set or your Logic set - the
plugins are moved back to where they were.
Simple, easy and it works well.
Hope this helps

Sounds like you have 2 types of automaion data going. Check your events list
for cntrl. #7(vol) and 10 (panning) data .If u find any erase them . This
should solve your problem.

Sounds like a simple sign extension bug in Activity Monitor; the
high order bit gets set, a signed extension to 64 bits is done, and
then its displayed as an unsigned number, or something like that.
This has nothing at all to do with Logic.
