John, you are my hero.
That was the problem, plain and simple. I had no idea.
Blocking the port, eh? Who knew?
Thanks again.

Sculpture is a physics-based modelling synth (an excited string) and the
click is part of the
modelling process, try increasing the attck stage on the amp envlope, a
small amount should
get rid of the click without too much swell.

HI John
Have you tried that with sending a midi clock to the software connected thru
IAC ?
Even cabling a monitor on the inputs is making Logic going mad

You will have to copy a few things:
- Probably all the factory patches, in case you were altering them. They're
located in Maindiskname/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler
Instruments.
- All your own patches. Located in User/Library/Application
Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments.
- All your samples. This is where it get's tricky, because depending on your
organisation "style", they might be spread all over the place.
Unfortunately, Apple entirely stripped an easy way to backup *all* your
instruments and samples from Logic in one single step (yes, something highly
useful as that has been existing in previous versions!).
So, now, what you'll have to do to get it done in case your samples aren't
nicely collected in one convenient place (something that could easily
happen, should you have converted a lot of AKAI disks), you may have to open
the Project Manager, select all patches (good luck if you're using a lot of
subfolders...) and then use the "copy selected EXS instruments and
samples"
command.
In case all your samples are in one folder (which, ideally, they really
should be), just copy or move that folder.

May I ask what the problem is?
I mean, others than for lack of features, the incredibly horrible patch
management, the way, way old-fashioned editor and some things that are
entirely messed up in the latest incarnation of Logic, there's really not
all that much to learn about the EXS.

Actually, quite a few of them are. We maintain a list of UB Plugins
here:
http://logic-users.org/links/cat/18
I note that NI FM8, Absynth 4, Kontakt 2.2, Reaktor 5.1.2, Massive,
Kore, Guitar Rig 2.2, Traktor 3 are all UB.

Hello you Logic's,
I've recently turned another leaf over and stepped into the Logic realm,
instead of Steinberg's world.
I am wondering that with the arrangement window in Logic, can you choose to
show the parts as a matrix note display, instead of the score display. I
don't mean the editor itself, but the arrangement window??
Cheers guys

No, you can't.
Perhaps, sometimes that'd be great, but either way, both ways don't offer
much information.
What I'd really love to see is some additional option for "inline"
editing,
which is a great feature of Cubase (and also Tracktion) in some situations,
especially when comparing MIDI and audio tracks.

I've emailed Sheldon to ask for more information. It is available from the
following site, which appears to ship internationally:

According to Native Instrument, the Universal Binary version of their
Kontakt Player 2 (for Intel-based Macs) is now available. (Finally!)
http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=intelmac_us
This should now enable the Garritan and many other Kontakt Player
based libraries to work for us MacIntel folks. I plan on trying this
later today. Anyone else try this yet?

No, you can only show the pseudo-score (or just blank
regions) in the Arrange.

Try not to hold anything back Sascha- tell us what you *really* think
of the EXS ; )

IMS ProA/V
Use Catch Mode
Catch mode ensures that the Sample Edit window always displays the area
around the
current playback position (whether you are playing the song, or monitoring
the
sample). Catch is turned on and off by either clicking the "walking
man"
button, or with
a key command.

Thanks for the link Mark.
For some reason i jumped to the conclusion that if Gio was having
problems with is NI instruments he was probably speaking of products
like the East/West quantum Leaps type of instruments wich are not yet
UB.

I always liked StudioVision's "piano roll" display in their main
window. Now
that Opcode has been gone for quite awhile, would it be so bad to
incorporate
that view in the Arrange window? I find the pseudo-score pretty useless.

Another option would be to save each (individual) song from the G5 as
a project to separate DVDs. Make sure you use the "Copy" function
for
each option in the project save window. Now when you want to work on
one of the songs again just copy the project from the DVD (which will
also serve as a back-up of that particular song) to your new machine
or hard drive for projects on your new machine and all should be
there. I make two copies of each DVD and save one off site as an
affordable way to have project backed up - I also delete them from my
normal work drive when I'm done or done for a while to fre up space
for other projects. Hope this give some help. Peace.

There are a few things I'd like to learn about the EXS- Importing samples
from various
sources like my Akai, for example; editing and manipulating samples; and
laying out
samples in an array across my keyboard controller so I can play them in one
pass as
opposed to only having access to one sample at a time. I would imagine
these are all
possible as they're fairly basic. Thanks.

Hi there,
I was wondering if we could share some tips on humanizing some quantized
parts.
I've been using the "Humanize" option for some time now but I was
wondering if you had any
advanced tips.
I'm mainly looking for making alive my classical scores.
Thanks!

Everyday I'm thinking of Vision because of this and I agree, they
should incorporate something similar already!

The generally best advice is to play parts manually into the
sequencer. If you are not as good player as your composition demands
simply turn down the tempo and play it slowly. One issue with this is
that some sampler/synth patches have a slow attack, but this can
easily be fixed by moving the entire track (all notes at the same
time) to make it match the original tempo. This will work fine
because the timing error coming from slow attack in an instrument
patch is absolute.
If you should decide to quantize it anyway, try quantizing from the
Extended Regions window instead of from the Arrange Window's channel
strip. This will give you much more control over the quantization
process. Check out what happens if quantizing only velocity!
Also explore and learn what you can do with the Transform Window (Cmd/
4). For example, you can both compress and expand velocity or timing
errors. Or change something randomly.

Hey. I am having a problem with my logic. I just got a new macbook pro,
running OS 10.4.8. I have Logic 7.0 (upgrading soon). The problem I a having
is this. I used Logic 7.0 on my home computer, a dual 1.8 powermac g5, and
everything worked perfectly. Now that I have installed logic on my Macbook
Pro, I have tried to open songs that I made and recorded on the PowerMac. I
get the error message "The file 'Pop Kit.exs" is not an EXS
instrument
file." or 'Jazz Kit', whichever one I happened to be using, and it's
like
that on all of my songs. If I try to record a new song, it doesn't find them
either. It recognizes all exs files I recorded before, except for all drum
kits. the bass guitar, keyboards, whatever else I recorded by midi works
fine, except for the doggone drum kits. It's like Logic isn;t talking to
garageband, which is where the sounds came from, they're just the standard
included drum kits sounds. I'm about at my wit's end, can anyone help??
Thanks.
