Can I heck. I enable IAC in the Audio/Midi panel and it shows up in both Logic and the Standalone Kontakt as one of my MIDI 'cable' options. But as soon as I activate it in Kontakt to be the input source of choice, and play a note from an instrument in Logic set to same, my studio fills with feedback mayhem and Kontakt locks up. The only solution has been to force quit Kontakt each time. Do you have any ideas, please?

I just did a little experiment where I malloc()ed 500MB of memory, zeroed it (so that it really was real), read it all back (just to make sure) and then went to sleep, and all of it was flagged as inactive from the start. This kind of makes sense, as you don't want to mark *all* of the memory as active right off the bat (since then there will be no candidates for swapping.) Once a bunch of memory accesses start, the VM system will see which pieces of memory are getting used the most and flag them as active. So it makes sense that sucking up a sample library (and not using 99.99% of it) will result in a very large block marked Inactive. --Dave

If you put any commercial CD into iTunes it will need to go to the CDDB database to find the title and track names. The reason your CD isn¹t showing up properly is that you (probably) haven¹t uploaded the CD info to the CDDB database. Try putting any CD into iTunes and see what it says.....it will say ³Accessing CDDB Database² and then the names will appear. If you don¹t check the option to check for names, or if you aren¹t on the internet, then all CDs will just show track01, track 02 etc. Blair -- blairfisher@shaw.ca

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. This group is really invaluable! I think that I will probably hold out until after NAMM and see what's available like Mike said. For me paying more than $1000 for a chassis and an interface would put me at a price point where it would make more sense to just buy another desktop too. I can't justify spending that kind of money just for a place to put my PCI cards when for a bit more I can have a place for my PCI cards, a CPU and a bunch of hard drive space that a whole computer would provide. -Xavier

Subject: [LUG] MIDI tantrums on the IAC bus...
Message #221710
Hi, I'm having a real hard time getting the IAC bus to work as MIDI conduit between Logic and Kontakt standalone. If there's anyone who can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have Kontakt up and running and being successfully triggered from that little MidiKeys utiliy over the IAC bus — no problems at all. As soon as I quit MidiKeys and launch Logic; select a midi instrument; set it to transmit midi on the same IAC bus (just like I did with MidiKeys) I get blasted with this HUGE feedback loop that can only be killed with a force quit of Kontakt... What is going on?!? I've stared at the problem for hours and I can't figure it out at all. But it's the same every time I try to make the connection. Kontakt has a MIDI tantrum. Kontakt is set to have the IAC Bus 1 as its "input" Midi channl — all others are toggled off. It has no output channels active. As I said before, it likes it when MidiKeys talks to it... IAC only has one bus. Logic is just opening a standard, factory template. I'm so confused I had to quit and walk away. Hoping someone can shed some light...

Subject: Song won't play at all.
Message #221711
Hi, I'm new here. Was hoping someone could help me with a very annoying problem I have been having with a track I'm working on in Logic Pro 7. It is a track which has been converted from an earlier PC version along with many others from the same session which all work fine. Basically, I can't get Logic to play back anything at all in the arrange window. Regardless of where you begin play from it won't play or move at all. Doesn't work if you hit play on the transport and doesnt work if you hit space bar, nothing. If you double click on an individual bit of audio and audition it in the edit window it will play fine though. It's not the driver settings or anything as I keep refreshing it and other songs work fine that were converted from the same session by the same engineer. I've disabled all plug-ins and gone through and soloed each track to see if one is corrupt but no joy. I'm desperate to get to work on this session as it needs to be completed really soon so has anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Joe

HI LUG I got it to work. I purchased all the tutorials from macprovideo and watched the environment one first and I now understand how the environment works. The rest was easy. My biggest mistake was that I checked sysex in logic's midi settings and I did not even realize it. Everuthing else works. If someone needs that environment for the MPC feel free to message me. Message #221716
Its Christmas for me, Just got my new 17" Mac Book Pro! (will love the big screen, will hate it while rushing around the airport trying to get my connecting flight and lugging the machine around) :) Well here is my problem for now..... Transferred (migrated) Logic Pro from the ol' Laptop to the new one, updated to LP 7.2.3 Now Logic is not seeing my plugs... (NI instruments, Ohmforce, PSP's) Checked for updates for the plugs to Universal, and some are updated, not all. Tried the AU validator but it does not see the plugs. Even the 'universal' ones. Am I stuck having to re-load LP? instead of migrating it? Rewire does not work either... any tips will truly be appreciated Thanks Ciao Gio

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but in terms of audio apps, a hell of a lot has changed in going intel and its best to start with a clean slate. Mike

Subject: [LUG] Annoying clicking in sculpture sound
Message #221718
Hi. I know this may be a very stupid question, but I can't get rid of that very annoying clicking sound when I play in sculpture. It sounds as the filter attack is set to 0 ms, but that isn't it. For example load analog vintage lead patch, and play octaves quickly and you'll see what I mean. For me sculpture is pretty much the only native softsynth I like the sound of in logic, but I can't get rid of that initial clicking artifact. Can anyone help me out? :) Thanks!

Subject: Going to Mac Book
Message #221725
Hi I just got a mac book. I am running logic pro 7.2 on my g5. I am concerned about how Im going to transfer all my samples over and weather or not I have to re install my akai disks. I dont have any other plug ins besides the ones logic come with. What is the best way to do this? Re install logic and drag my logic folder over from the older computer? I want to be able to work on the same songs that i was on my G 5, and have them be able to find the samples they were using. How will I ensure that my esx still has all the instruments I created? Before I do it the wrong way Im asking for advice from anyone who has gone thru this. It would be much appreciated.
