Replace your internal drive with a 7200RPM. Even
if you aren't recording or playing back audio on the
internal drive, it makes a difference to the overall
speed of the laptop.

Can I put in a vote for doing another group buy on the Sonalksis plug-ins
soon.
Is it possible to give any clue as to whether or not this may be possible
soon?
I've asked about this in several emails to LUG, though I could be posting to
the wrong address! I've never had a reply. How do I email to a real
person?

If you run them through a guitar amp like most people originally did way
back when it will sound a lot better. Anybody who has ever owned or toured
with a Rhodes or a Clavinet knows that there's a reason that those
instuments slowly disappeared - the tuning. Furthermore most of them were
modified so a real Rhodes sound to one person is a horrible one for another
which makes comparing sounds hard. I also have Magnetica, EVP88 and the real
deal and to tell you the truth I don't even have the real thing in my studio
anymore because I never used it.
I don't have a B3 or a Leslie but a lot of the organ sound comes from the
volume pedal and register skills that good organ players have and not so
much the actual sound so again it's not possible just to press the keyboard
and then judge the sound.
I completely agree that the keyboard plays a massive part in the performance
like the Hammonds with their very light keyboard, almost like a toy
keyboard.
I have a Logic session where the session tempo is set to 60bpm but the midi
is playing back
at 78 bpm. I can't edit my midi because it doesn't match the session so it
doesn't lighn up to
the grid. I need to be able to change the session tempo to 78bpm without
having it change
the midi. Is there a way to do this? I looked a little bit at the Beat
mapper but that would
require drawing connecting lines to creat lots of tempo changes and what I
need is more
exact then that.

hi,
i have been using logic express for about 6 months, and there's still
a problem that's plaguing every project i do.
i sequence external midi devices with logic, then record the audio
from those devices back into logic. the strange thing is, the audio
shows up in the timeline earlier than the midi info. it's like logic
is sending the midi info out early or something. midi latency is set
to zero.
this makes editing the audio a pain because i have to slide everything
late to get it to line up with the timeline.
any ideas?
thanks,
greg

For the Rhodes, it was the weight. The DX7 came out with its
excellent Rhodes emulation, and Rhodes were gone seemingly overnight.
In fact, (real keys players might disagree- I'm a guitarist) there's
no question in my mind that guys would have preferred to continue to
play a real Rhodes to a DX7 if they had weighed the same- at least
the guys who did their own schlepping, which would have been the guys
playing through guitar amps. For the Clavinet, which I always
thought was a cool sound, I think it was more that it was just
limited to a funky style that had its day and then passed. And again,
if you don't have a roadie, why bring another keyboard if it's not an
essential one?
Sorry. OT, I'm sure. Just remembering the old days, I guess.

Hi,
I believe Logic is not very good in beeing slave to MIDI Clock. It
slaves better to MTC (Time Code) but the MPC cannot give that.
I never could slave Logic to MIDI Clock only allright if there were
some audio instruments running.
So you would go better keeping Logic as the master.
The MPC should slave fine to Logic's Clock.

I personally haven't layed my hands on the SH-201 yet but am very curious.
Currently I love my MIDI controller setup so wouldn't be using it for that.
I run a Keystation Pro 88, and the mackie control, extender, and C4. They
were pretty much built for Logic. The C4 has been great for rockin VST
settings and Plugins.
How are the sounds on that thing? How is the GUI for the VST part of it?
I ordered Logic Pro and was wondering can I uninstall Logic Express? If so
how? I know I can
delete the app from application folder but are there other items that should
be deleted?
also will Pro install duplicates of things like loops sampler instruments
etc,,
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Hans,
Yes, select your MIDI Region(s), then go to Region > Lock SMPTE position,
then change
your tempo. The MIDI won't move.

Or use SuperDuper! instead, it has incremental backup built in (they
call it Smart Copy), and works a treat for creating bootable clones
of your hard drive. (But it isn't the most flexible for other types
of backup.)

Look under the "Region" menu - select "Split/Demix" -
choose "Demix
by event channel" (or "note number" to separate drum tracks)

... maybe I should mention that the Demix function applies to the
region of the GM track between the L + R locators ... so make sure
you set them to include the entire song
... the new midi tracks may also include 'default' volume / effects
settings which will reset every time you restart the track ... you
may want to delete / edit these settings to allow you greater choice
over the final settings ....
hope this helps

Good day all, hope this finds everyone well.
Is there any way to control the tempo with a Logic Control unit?
I tried mapping a controller to a tempo fader and Logic didn't handle
it well. Seemed to be a new glitch related to the Global Tempo track.
Anyway, i would prefer to do it with the Logic Control unit.
(maybe with the 'User' section ???)
thanks...........

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a "Logic Express 7 to Logic
Express
7.1 Upgrade Kit" cd? I was left behind during the whole updating
process.
Any links, addresses or tips would be great

Sign me up! The Sonalksis mastering plugins are
easily the most transparent of the tube emulating
compressor/limiter plug-ins I've demoed so far. Warmth
without coloration (or an i-Lok). Two snaps up!

Heh. Back in the early 80s I worked with a keyboard player who also
was a B3 tech; he added a second set of tone wheels to his B3. We
used to haul that down the stairs (complete with snow in the winter)
to the basement club we regularly played, along with a Leslie cabinet.
All I know is that if he hadn't been a B3 God, we never would have
hauled that stuff around. Made my dual 15" bass rig seem downright
lightweight in comparison. It's amazing we never got injured...

AFAIR, (and Jeremy may have better information on this), when the
Sonalksis Group Buy was negotiated, Sonalksis' intention was to do
only one such promotion. This was stated at the time on the Group Buy
announcement:
"This is a special one-time-only group buy with Sonalksis - after
this they will never have a group buy again with the LUG or anyone
else!"

Unfortunately, we cannot give any information in advance of any
possible group buys.

yep, with those movers bars you strapped on the sides. Beginning of
my back problems. And of course,
no way around it back then, if you wanted that B3 sound.

AFAIK, the Logic installer will overwrite most if not all LE (LE uses a
subset of the Logic Pro files) support files. Just dump the LE application
and you should be fine.

Hi,
Just saw the post in an email digest, so don't know if these have been
mentioned, but you
can use Monolingual to remove all unused languages from your HD, which can
be up to
1gb. Also Shadowkiller removes the shadows from OSX and is meant to help. I
use it but I
have not done before/after tests. Alos, set display to 1000's, not
millions. you can find
the programs via google easily.
On an entirely differnt note, there was an argument going on about summing
ages ago,
and not to get back into that, but I recently switched to a MH 2882 and the
difference in
sound mixing through it, seperating the outs from Logic into it, and then
recording the
mix back into logic via AES/EBU is a massive improvement over Logic's
internal bounce.
Anyone else agree?

Well,
I have not played with the SH-201 yet Craig. I spent most of my night just
watching video demos of it and also some of Korg Radias's synth. The layer
of the SH-201 looks so much like our synths. I have owned the keystation pro
88 and I loved it but I sold it for the ozonic (bad move at that time).
I am still looking for something closer to the piano feel that I can use :
maybe a Studiologic by Fatar tpe of midi controller keyboard with a C4... I
will keep you posted as I need to get a controller in a few days
I know this is not part of the discussion but Korg's Radias sounds and looks
awesome hence are you currently mixing hardware synths/logic ??? My problem
with hardsynths is that they are limited. With Logic's Sculpture for
instance, you can create unique sounds and tweak them to infinite
possibilities that you cannot do with hardware.
Any thoughts LUG ???
Impatiently waiting for some feedback :)
Hi all,
I'm currently working on some pluggos built in Max that I want to use
in Logic. Basically, these pluggos are inserted in logic tracks, and
generate MIDI data that I would like to route to AU instruments, or,
even better, to the sequencer input to be able to record it.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a way so far to output MIDI from an
insert in Logic.
Can anyone help ? Are there some Pluggos developers on the list that
could share their experience with Logic ? From what I've gathered,
there are some shortcomings that make Logic not such a good host for
those plugs.
Thanks in advance !
Best regards,

Hi everyone,
I have a quite basic question. I'm recording a band via a mixer which
outputs are led to a Motu traveler and then everything is transferred to
Logic via firewire. Now my problem is that I set the levels in my mixer so
that I sometimes reach the orange but never the red. I apply the same to the
traveler were the dynamic seems to be quite weel used. My problem is that in
logic I usually end up with very small waves that I usually end editing with
audio energizer. As I understand the problem today, for percusive
instruments, the peak of the signals makes the average signal quite low...
any solution proposition, better explanation?
Regards
Fred
