How do you do this in CarbonCopyCloner? - updating only the changed or
altered files.
PS: feel free to email me off line - as this is getting off topic....

I'm responding to my own post, because while kludging together a
solution I came across two little utilities that might prove useful
for others using midi in an unconventional manner.
1. Midi Monitor - does what it says. Big scroll screen showing all
the midi data coming in. Allows different formats for notes, time,
etc. columns
2. midiStroke - converts incoming midi data into computer keyboard
keys (ASCII?). Not something one normally has use for, but I was
able to use it to convert a drum pad (on my padKontrol) to the down
arrow, so while recording a rhythm part into logic, the user is also
scrolling down in Excel, highlighting the numbered rows in order so
he knows how many times he has hit the drum pad.

Then get a second set of three hard drives where Carbon Copy Cloner
copies everything to, every night, after you go home.

Hi Maurits:
My personal experience has also been that getting low on hard disk space
creates major problems. I have also heard others say the same thing. I just
know that when my free disc space got low (I don¹t remember exactly how
low,
but way more than 400 MB) everything slowed way down even processes
that I
didn¹t think were using the disc. I wasn¹t running Tiger, so maybe
Apple has
fixed the problem however I am not about to find out ;)
It was agonizing.

Install it on a MacIntel quad?

How do you disable widgets?
You should install Logic on the sytem drive and keep all the audio/
samples on the F/W drive
Cheers

LUG,
I just noticed after 2 1/2+ years of using GarageBand Loops and ALL the Jam
Packs that some of the Drum Sets, and it looks like mainly from the Jam Pack
1,
are not showing up in Logic. In The Drum Sets there are no Telephone Kit
Twang Kit, Android Kit, etc., etc., and some of the loops are not showing up
either. Any suggestions from anyone who uses these sounds/loops a lot? I
tried
loading settings in the channel strip boxes for the different instruments,
AU's ,
etc., but no luck. Someone give me the heads up!
Thank you in advance.

By switching them off in the dashboard. There is also a hack around
somewhere
to switch off the dashboard in total, but the effect of this should be
negligeable next to audio processing.
By the way, the widgets won't even load until you switch to the dashboard in
the first place. Then when you switch back from the dashboard, the widgets
will sleep and use no CPU; just some memory that will be swapped out
eventually (and not swapped back in until you re-open the dashboard so
again,
no real performance loss there).
Don't expect to be able to open a single Silververb more with tweaks like
these. ;)

In this case I usually
- create a "dummy" region on the track
- select that region
- execute the command "move selected track based automation to
object"
- loop that region.

Every time I open Logic Pro (7.2.2) just before itopens I get a dialogue box
saying that CoreAudio plugin " " not found.Would I like to
proceed? Then I
have to click on OK or Yes,whatever it asks, then the app loads. Has anyone
seen this? I've checked my components folder where the AU plugins reside,
and any other plugin home on my drive but cannot seem to find anything that
I didn't recognize......especially anything without an actual name, which I
would guess " " means.
Thanks for any handle on this.

You can achieve this by another (better?) method ...
You can actually 'unmix' the GM track by midi channel to create
individual midi instrument tracks - determined by the midi channels
actually used in the GM track
Depending on the source quality, the 'new' individual midi tracks
will include some kind of instrument name and even GM instrument
assign number
These individual tracks do not need a GM sound module but can be
assigned to anything you want ...
Note: GM Drumkits are usually on channel 10 - and these can be
further 'unmixed' by midi note number to give you individual drum tracks
cheers

recently I was copying a large video to my drive and filled up the
drive to the brim.
Address Book, iCal, FileMaker pro and many other programs that don't
ask you to save suddenly went all wacko -- but since I freed up space
and never restarted, I only realized that some of these had gone
weird after two days (when FileMaker forgot a long text I typed into
a database...:(
so really: keep an eye on it. Dataloss is imminent if you fill up
your drive. Never ever get to 0. make sure you always have 10% of
your drive free (because Maurits, I think it's 10%, not 10Gigs you
should leave available...)
you will lead a happier life...
And: by all means: backup your work regularly! I just went through a
restore process of my Address Book, after a .mac sync cleared
everything (first on my Mac, then on the server. GOod Thing I am
using Backup...!)

I should hope so, there's no way I'm going to keep 10 gigs free on my 10gb
iBook. :)
Obviously, running apps need to be able to write out (temporary) data and
stuff. That's why the system drive needs some room; although this isn't
really
dependant on the amount of total drive space (hence no percentage) but on
the
amount of stuff you have running and what you do with it.
I think a few hundred MB as buffer is normally enough. Anyway, you'll be
warned before the disk fills up.

Actually I have had 6 swap files on my Powerbook (1 GB RAM, numbers vary
with varying amounts of RAM)when working with large sample libraries. These
happen as follows.
64
64
128
256
512
512
makes a total of 1536 MB
So I would _strongly_ suggest to keep 3 GB free. Everything above that is
fine, but that seems to be the number that makes the most sense. Still
enough buffer for a seventh swap files although that probably won't be
necessary as you will think your PB breaks down any second because of all
the swapping.

An earlier thread on this subject implied that CopyCatX was much
better than the alternatives when it comes to including hidden
authorization files in the backup system drive. Not so?
I bought it but haven't tried it yet, so I can't verify.

Hi Eli -
You have to install psync (a Unix utility) and enable incremental
backup in CCC's Preferences--CCC will fetch psync and install it for
you when you turn inc.b/u on, or you can get it manually from
Bombich's site, I believe..

Thanks Yavuz...I followed your advice. The startup items folder has an
'ownership and permissions' section which you can unclick after pressing for
information. Trouble is, I have no idea what I should do next. I tried
unclicking the lock and reinstalling the driver; that didnt work.
Only good thing is that now I can see the A26 driver in the startup items
folder. I wonder why the finder didnt find it?

I've been able to play songs by switching off all my widgets, that wouldn't
playback with
the widgets open. I'm only talking about 3 or 4 factory widgets. And I'd
never used or
opened the Dashboard before. So you do get a performance gain by switching
off all
widgets. This is on a powerbook G4 running 10.4.6.
