The 7.2 DVD contains the full install.

When I did it, It Just Worked. No sacrifice of virgin chickens by the
light of the gibbous moon, I just installed, stuck the key in and it
worked.

I agree. I used to think that dongles were the work of Beelzebub, but
I have to confess that Logic has changed my mind about this.
In the past week, Logic has stopped recognizing my M-Audio Oxygen8
keyboard. I've tried everything I can think of to solve the problem,
and i recently noticed that when i click on the MIDI In and MIDI Out
section of the transport window (sometimes doing that gets it to
rescan my ports and find my keyboard) it says either "No MIDI" or
"Full Panic..."
I've tried everything I can think of, including going back through
the Logic setup assistant. none of it has helped. Any help on how
to trouble shoot this problem would be greatly appreciated.

If it's not going to work, any upgrade DVD will just tell you it
can't find anything to update. So there's no risk to just putting the
7.2 DVD in and trying it.
And you just move the Logic key to your MacBook when you want to
start the program.

Hi Keith,
As you've discovered, there is a new function for creating markers by
detecting cuts in the
currently open movie.
For newbies:
Enable Global Tracks (Arrange window, <View> menu)
Go to <Global Track Components> in the same menu and make sure that
Marker and Video and checked.
Open a movie and then click on the <Detect Cuts> button.
If there are lots of cuts in the movie, a marker will be created for every
cut.
In the marker list, these all have the "movie" symbol next to
them.
They are all locked to SMPTE and will stay aligned to the movie if
you change tempo. You'll see that the markers move if you change tempo.
In this respect, it is very much like locking a marker to SMPTE
position. <Set movie mode> simply changes a regular marker to a movie
marker or vice versa . (Reset movie mode can turn one of these little
creatures back into a normal marker)
I'm not really sure if these movie markers have any other unique
qualities....

Are there any users of the following Powerbook using Logic with an external
hard drive ?
1.5Ghz / ! GB / 80 GB (about 18 gig left now).
I'm thinking of getting a FireWire drive but looking into what the best
options/specs might be and if anyone has experience of making use of a
similar setup.
Many thanks !
P.S. Native Instruments are running a special offer is anyone is interested:

It is possible......I took the time to set this up in my Autoload....the tip
is from John Pitcairn. After you set it up,.... it's an easy job.
Good Luck!

Help needed here...I only use Logic occasionally being a Digital Performer
user.
I'm needing to record a drummer in a Logic based studio and I'm wondering
how people deal
with multiple passes, in this case, of a drum kit assigned to 8 channels.
In DP I assign 8 tracks for the first pass and then each subsequent pass is
simply a new take
on the same tracks.
In Logic however if I do five passes - do I really need to assign 8 new
channels per pass -
meaning I have 40(!) tracks of drums in the arrange window ?
What's the workaround here - folder tracks? Seems incredibly clumsy.
Any help much appreciated - thanks

Logic has no concept of "takes", or of layered region management
in
the Arrange. There's no built-in take-management like DP or ProTools.
Folders is the usual way to handle this:
Record pass 1, stop
Pack folder
Mute folder
Repeat for remaining takes, using the same 8 channels each time.
Unmute/solo/cut/comp folders as required
Once you get used to the process, it's pretty fast, and lets you
manipulate an entire multitrack take as a single Arrange object.
Unpacking a folder is trickier, I forget whether "keep instrument"
or
"keep track" is the way to go to get things back out to the main
Arrange (experiment).
If you're cycle-recording your takes without stopping, you'll be left
with a track order that isn't laid out for easy selecting of each
take's tracks. I've written an applescript to handle that by naming
and sorting the tracks - see my website's Logic section at

I'm using a Formac FW800 dual-drive case connected to a LaCie FW800
cardbus card in my (FW400 only) TiBook. RME Fireface 800 is connected
to the TiBook FW400 port. I have 80G Seagate and 160G Western Digital
7200rpm drives in the case, with the (noisy) internal fan removed and
the case stood on end for better convective ventilation. This
combination has been very fast, and very reliable. I highly recommend
using a separate FW bus for the drive and audio interface if you're
using FW audio.
Note I often record to a partition of the powerbook internal 5400rpm
drive anyway for easy portability (the drive is plenty fast enough),
and use the external drive to hold projects in progress, moving the
recorded audio to it later.

I have a perfectly gated, totally isolated, very clean kick drum. But i just
don't like the sound of it. I've messed around with different EQs,
compression in logic and the UAD plugins and I'm still not liking it. I want
to swap it out for a midi Kick from my Battery 2 plugin but I'm having
trouble using the audio to midi feature in Logic Pro 7.2. I'm getting an
absolute mass of midi notes where I was expecting only one and they seem to
have no relevance to the kick what so ever?
Does anyone have experience of this feature and can tell me where I'm going
wrong, or a better way to pursue it. I have lots of songs to do and would
like to avoid drawing or playing every note in.

How can I accomplish this as there is only one FW bus
on my G5?

Depending on the number of tracks you're running to/from the FW drive,
and the number of simultaneous I/O active on the FW audio interface,
you might be OK with them both on the same controller/bus. The G5s are
not noted for their stellar FW I/O performance. You have to try it.
If not, you'd add a FW card to a PCI slot, though you might run into
other issues with PCI bandwidth depending on what else is in use there.

Once in a while, like now, Native Instruments B4 Organ plays back as
if it's transposed. When I play on my keys with the track selected
it's OK. When I click on a note in a sequence, it's OK. However, when
I play back the song it's in a different key (lower for now).
Anyone know what that's about, and how to fix it?
I run across it so infrequently I can't remember what to do. (I also
experience the occasional software instrument dropout).
I have all legal software.

Thank you John
So, when you've packed and muted the folder do the original
eight track assignments remain on the arrange page - empty
and ready for a new pass? Or do I need to reassign each time?
Alternatively - Is it possible to record straight into a folder
that I've pre-prepared. In other words, make a folder template
for the drum assignments and keep on cloning a new folder for
each pass.
Is this viable?
I know it's all a question of what one is used to, but I do find
Logic very awkward in this type of scenario.
Onwards, upwards, sideways and backwards.
Very useful website you have there - thanks for pointing me to
it.

Hi
i use this feature a lot with Kick and snare...just play with the
Drum Slow/fast etc until you get close...then set the notes to all
the same one...there mat be a few grace notes to get rid of...als o u
often gave to Select all and take the midi to its highest factor ...
I line the Midi and Adio tracks next to eavh other on the arrange and
zoom to check they're all right...
I barely do a mix without it so keep going..it's a god send...not as
quick as Sound Replacer but effective nonetheless.

You could use a setup with a PCI firewire card, something like mine:

Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on an very annoying
problem...
I'm using a G5 Power PC 2.0 Ghz Dual Processor and 2G RAM. I use Logic with
Pro Tools
Hardware (HD 192). Everything is hunky dory on a new song and after a day
when the song
has been built up to the point of mix down say 60 tracks, automation and a
reasonable
amount of plug-ins - Mostly all TDM though, Logic slows right down. It's
mainly in the screen
drawing area i.e.. Zooming/scrolling left and right (but not up and down
strangely) and
copying parts is painfully slow! I've tried the usual system stuff even a
complete re-install of
my system. I don't think this problem is due to heavy usage as I've tried
deleting all
automation, plug-ins and then tracks and the problem's still there in the
song with nothing
going!
Please help me if you can!!
Alex.

How about this: set up separate EQs on the track each with the unique
settings you need. Then bypass them all, and just automate the bypass
automation to selectively bypass/unbypass each one as needed.

So long as bypassed plugins don't consume CPU power, (and I don't
think they do) that's a fantastic idea!
Thanks,
Stuart-
Perhaps it is easiest to have each group on a new set of tracks?

Orwell Digital Releases REAL_CONTROL Patch And Percussion Collection For
Logic Pro
New York, NY- Orwell Digital has released a new collection of instrument
channel presets and percussion kits designed exclusively for use with
Apple's Logic Pro software. This product delivers fifty pro-level
synthesizer channel presets, all stored with full effects settings. Eleven
drum kits, based on completely new, 24-bit stereo samples, are also
provided. Every instrument preset has been programmed with seven carefully
chosen MIDI controller routings so as deliver intense realtime control and
sonic flexibility to the performer.
The drums kits included with the REAL_CONTROL collection call on Orwell
Digital's D.E.C.S. processing techniques to deliver a detailed performance
experience. The D.E.C.S. process involves the use of re-synthesis to
seperate percussion tones into their various internal components. These
sub-sections are then re-combined based on the user's perfomance. The end
result is a level of realism unavailable using traditional sample-playback
techniques.
So that users can experience this new collection for themselves without
obligation, a special demo version of REAL_CONTROL is now available for free
download. This package includes a varied selection of REAL_CONTROL patches
and percussion, as well as a shorter version of the PDF-format patch guide
which accompanies the full version.
Special introductory pricing on the REAL_CONTROL Collection is now $29.99
when purchased on-line, through the Orwell Digital website at
www.orwelldigital.com.
