To all who sent me ideas on how to get White Noise --
Thank You!
I actually used Blairs suggestion.
I also found out how to drop a green apple loop into a track, go to matrix
view, select all and
then delet the notes from the loop, leaving only the sampled inst. to be
played from
controller keyboard.
I'm setting up a blank song with inst. allready to use.
Thanks for the help to a newbie who has climbed out of the black hole.

That was the pref I was thinking of and no it won't help you across
different instruments from song to song

Correct.

You're getting it just right. I'm assuming you need to load different
songs because you actually have to PLAY songs back. I don't have to
run Logic. I merely use it as a rack of synths and live vocoder. As
such I only have one song and I never have to hit play so the
approach works for me. You have to have EXS virtual memory turned on.
Once it is you can have many more instruments loaded whose total ram
requirements far exceed that of your physical ram. It seems to work
well.

It might be if you had a standalone sampler like Kontakt triggered
via rewire???

Hi all,
Would anyone know what would be the best way to set up an RME Fireface 800
and external HD with the MBP. Namely, would a firewire hub make any
difference in terms of performance, compared to a daisy chain. Also, is it a
problem to daisy chain with FW400 port and FW800 port on the same chain?
Thanks!
Patrick
Does anybody know where I can get a list of error codes for pc logic 5.5.1.
Having Some problems...

Happens here too. Not Sound Diver related for me. It has been
happening for some time and I find that quitting and restarting Logic
cures it till next time.
Annoying bug!

This is a job for CoolEdit/Adobe Audition isn't it? You take a noise
signature from a part with just hum/noise and no musical content and
then use the noise reduction over the whole track. Sorry I haven't
seen this feature in Logic Audio.

Hi Patrick,
I don't think a firewire hub will improve your performance and may have
adverse effects on
reliability (It has been known to cause problems in the past). I would
recommend running
the HD serially after the Fireface (FW on Mac->Fireface->FW HD). You
don't mention which
MBP you're talking about as the 17" has a FW800 port in addition to the
FW400 one (which
is all the 15" has). If its the 15" (FW400 only) then it is
possible to run the Fireface on a
400 bus. If its the 17" bung the fireface on the 800 socket and the HD
on the 400.
If all this proves insufficient then its possible to buy more FW ports in
the form of a
3/4PCIExpressCard. Hope this helps, Mike
James, Eddie, GPiccolini, Steve, Henry
I'm extremely grateful for your feedback. I'm going to try and get an
A5 Wide format tablet, which seems better suited to dual monitor work
(in terms of axis ratio). I'll probably have to keep using a mouse as
well for now, becuase I use it on multiple systems, and my KVM switcher
is not USB.
Either way, I have to do something. The RSI (assuming thats what it
is) in my mouse clicking fingers is so bad today I can barely move
them. That's what two 14-hour days of bulding patches and editing
loops will do to you!!
Thanks again to all.

OTOH, I've had firewire devices that wouldn't play nice together
until I plugged them into a FW hub. So, it may depend on how
finicky your external HD is. You might need to experiment before
you find out what works the best. Sometimes the order of the
devices makes a really big difference.

No guarantees doing it like that. I usually close Logic, open SD,
load what I need into my synths and then quit/log out/log in. If I
need Logic open to test stuff (eg audition sounds against existing
stuff) then I'm forced to risk the dreaded transpose bug for a while,
then quit everything and start again.
It's a huge pain in the butt - I *WISH* Apple would pick up
SoundDiver and update it and fix all the bugs. Clearly they do not
think there's enough of a market to make it worth their while. They
could show some compassion for their 1000's of Logic users and
consider time spent on SD to be good old-fashioned goodwill. As it
is, SD is "frozen" with all its problems forever....

My problem is when i use external effects for audio tracks i want to
compensate the latency of the external effect signal with the dry signal and
the rest of the playback. If i record my external signal to a audio track
(no autput bounce)it is fixed. So the problem is only the playback-latency
of my external equipment relating of the dry signals and all the other
tracks.
For example: I send over a bus object a part of the signal from a audio
track to my lexicon effekt. the effect signal that i hear now on the input
has a latency.
Is there a way to compensate that like logic 7 does it with plug-Ins
latency?
can anyone confirm that latest versions of Amplitube and/or
Guitar Rig will or won't run on intel G5 (without Rosetta)? thanks
in advance!

Well that's not done with phase cancellation (because as mentioned,
that is next to impossible). However what happens is that the
frequency aspects of the noise are analyzed and a filter is based on
that.

Try Sound Soap (commercial 3rd-party plugin). It does this and more.
Maurits.
I am a long time tablet user and absolutely love it. I have constructed a
series of small, self-contained control surfaces which have intergrated
Wacom tablets for more comfortable, deskless use. These allow me to work
very long, navigation-intensive sessions with zero muscle fatigue/carpal
irritation.
As for configuration, I find it essential to use "mouse mode"
which does not follow absolute mapping. This allows for smaller muscle
movements to more quickly traverse equivilent screen distances.
The only downside I find to using tablets is that one most put down the
pen for most non-navigation activities, such as playing the keyboard or
knob/fader manipulation. It is possible to type with the pen in your
fingers, but the ergonomic sensibilty of doing this for extended periods is
questionable...

Nope doesnt matter which order you do it, the transpose 'feature' will
still show its ugly head..
I hear ya Colin.. MidiQuest just isnt quite up to par as a complete
replacement for Sound Diver.. Unisyn only supports ONE of the synths I
have. Im still hoping itll show up one day but it would seem Apple
really really wants us all out buying dual cores to run their software
synths instead now.. but sorry I like my Micro
Q/Microwave/Virus/SH101/etc alot better than I like ES1/2/P/etc...

Yup. That's just what happens on my gigs. Back and forth...

Yeah. That's what I do till I need to run another song.
Works great, as you say.

Oooohhhh! I didn't know about this till just now. Seems I
already had it checked but it seems to point to another issue I've
been encountering.
I hit play on a song and it goes a bar or two in and then
stops. Get an error message something like "Not read from disk in
time" or something like is mentioned on the virtual memory page of
the EXS.
I'm reluctant to mess with it now 'cause I have a job
tomorrow and I have been using a work around that gets me through the
gig. I'll check it out after I get past this weekend's work.
Perhaps I'll find a solution to that problem.
Man, there's a lot to these virtual instruments. Whew...

Hmm. Maybe, but I don't own either and I haven't caught up
from buying Logic 7 & my G4 laptop. New purchases are definitely not
on the current agenda here. :-)
Thanks for your help, Paul.

Hi,
Just got the MacBook. I have many plug-ins running, also Kore and the
whole Ni bundle, but non shows up in my Plug-in list... they are all
in my main library/audio/components folder, I did run the authoriser,
but only the Micro-Tonic shows in my list... any clues?

I just moved to Chicago and looking for an audio gig where Logic 7 is
involved. I'm Logic 7 Apple Pro Certified, and work with the program more
often than Pro Tools. Does anyone know of a studio, or anyone I can talk to
that might be looking for help? Is there anyone from Chicago that has done
work for clients using Logic? Your answers to my questions are greatly
appreciated. Thanks

Don't think a list of error codes for PC Logic has ever been
published.
However, I imagine the most common error codes are the same on both
platforms so you might try explaining your difficulty.

Sound Soap did the trick! (Maybe takes out a bit too much... maybe
not, but the $99.00 is more than worth the time I'd have spent with
my original theory or trying to use my own eq. etc!

Though I have done this myself, I think that if you were to daisy
chain the drive to the interface, or vice versa, it should be fine.
This may depend on how much of the FF800's I/O you are actually
utilizing. Have you tried it? I would be interested in the results.

Bump!
I can record system exclusive data, I just cant find any mention in the

Well as you can listen just the output of the filter in Sound Soap so
you can fine tune it so that it only takes out noise and nothing else.
