Now that's great for those who didn't sign up yet, but what about those who
have?
Do we have to wait 2 more weeks? I know pitch 'n time from use in PT and
Fairlight
so I'm impatiently waiting to use it with Logic.

If you're talking about distortion for guitar, I just recently bought
Guitar Rig 2 by Native Instruments. I'm very happy with the sounds I've
gotten with a little tweaking.

I dont see how there could be an easier way. MIDI is not audio, its
data. The only way youre going to record the AUDIO from your MIDI
instruments is to well, record them onto AUDIO tracks.

Clarification: FX-Teleport is a happening thing. I meant AUNetsend/

Hi,
I recently began a search for a mic pre. Ultimately I decided to wait until
a later date to make the purchase. However if I had the 1500 bucks I'd get
the Groove Tubes SuPRE. It will be in stores in July, but it seems
fantastic. I was also eyeing the Summit Audio 2BA-221. It costs 630 bucks.
-jg.
In 7.1 surround mode, when panning an audio track to the Rear Left
position, the audio bleeeds through to either mid channel left, or Rear
right position, depending on pan setting. I cannot set the pan
position so the track audio only appears in the Rear Left output.
This occurs, with all three pan law settings and the bleed through is
apparent when a full level signal, -0.5dBFS peak, is the source.
Unlike the Rear Left, when panning to Rear Right output, it is
possible to position the pan setting so the output can be directed to
only the rear right output. I can provide further details if needed,
or maybe something with my configuration is not optimal, but it is
strange it is only some channels that cannot be isolated to one output.
I have tried using automation for the surround angle, to allow precise
placement in the rear left channel, but the audio either bleeds to one
or the other neighboring channels. Maybe this is due to the value
incrementing in steps of 2.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Here’s a little technique of mine should any of u do lots of
softsynth native
to logic type work/programming. I find this is cool and it saves me time.
Iss'nt THAT what we need?
It seems that all of garage band synthy tone generators are all based on one
instrument native to Logic: The ES2). Let's say I’m scoring a scene
that needs
a particular synth sound for it. I start by instantiating a garage band
instrument first. I’ll call up a garage band synth that may have a
sound in
particular that I’m thinking about for the scene. It just has to
CLOSELY
approximate the sound I was thinking of. Now that I have that instrument
up I start
tweaking it to get a sound close to what I am thinking of in my head.
(maybe
it’s a pad or a sound that has more of an attack at the
beginning…) When I’
m close to the sound I want I go back to the channel strip/instrument
selection area and select an ES2. You will see a very cool thing happen.
The ES2
takes on like a mirror all of the garage band instrument settings! Now I
can
go in and fine tune that sound I am after! Fun stuff. This way your not
overwhelmed with all the settings that the ES2 would have to get your basic
sound BUT once the es2 IS called up you have IT'S power at YOUR command!

I'm a big fan of the Vipre- I have one and use it daily.
I've looked at the spec for the Supre and spoke to the GT boys at
Musikmesse- pretty it is not going to be the same sort of thing- I'm
slightly dubious as to how good it is going to be on spec.
Definitely a try before you buy item-I'd love to think that I can get
4 channels of the 'GT tube sound' for the cost of one Vipre... but
experience tells me that corners will have been cut.

The whole idea behind the XSKey is that you can only run as many
copies of Logic as you bought. :o) Hence, buying a second XSKey is
the same as buying a second Logic. Obviously, nobody is going to get
rid of their key without selling Logic as a whole, so what you really
want is a second-hand copy of Logic, there should be some out there.
The question is of course, whether you really want to buy a second
copy of Logic just so you can keep one (key) as a spare in your
laptop bag.
But technically there is no such thing as "cheaply" buying a key
without buying Logic. And if you could (like maybe buying Logic 5 off
someone and somehow hacking your installation to upgrade both keys to
Pro 7) it would be illegal.
The key _is_ Logic.. the disc you get with it is just a little extra
needed to make it work. :o)

Not sure if I can formulate a clear enough question:
When at home, I run my kbds through my stage MIDI Patchbay
( MIDITEMP) which
in turn is routed to my studio MIDI Interface ( AMT8).
The former organises how my 2 keyboards talk to each other and rack
modules,
the latter interfaces with my Mac and Logic, taking over the routing
when
necessary - as set up by my patches.
It works well: when I go to/return from gigs, I don't need a major
rewire, all
I need is different patches on my stage MIDI patchbay and to plug/
unplug a
loom from AMT8
The problem I'm having atm is that when I don't have Logic running,
my mother
keyboard still talks to an external module, even though my stage MIDI
patchbay
isn't routed to do so.
In other words, the AMT8 routing still seems active without Logic
running.
As soon as I open AudioMIDI setup, the problem clears.
Does anyone know why this happens?

I realize that I probably missed out on a good group buy last year, at which
point there was a
great deal of discussion regarding this, but please bear with me. I'm
looking for
recommendations on an excellent sampled piano for the EXS24. One that will
sit well in a
mix (British-influenced pop, in my case) as well as solo. Is it possible to
find something
under $250 or so? Thanks!

Why do you not record with time code from the video deck going to the
recorder, and resolving all to video sync? This is the only way it
will truly work.

Thanks Matt. GAP is all I need really. I also quite like Logic's Clip
Distortion. My needs are not that big. My idea of pulling a great
guitar sound is to hire a wonderful player with wonderful amp &
pedals and 3-5 $5000 guitars and stick a mic in from of it. As for
dirtying up everything else the aforementioned are enough...

Hey,
I'm fairly new to Logic's audio facilities and have an issue I can't figure
out:
When I record a new pass in the arrange track with previously recorded audio
in it, it alwasy plays the original take and not the new one. How do I stop
Logic from doing this and prioritize the audio playback of the new take? I
just want to hear my latest take after recording over another audio region
in the Arrange track. I don't want to do this in cycle mode, just in
'regular' recoring mode.
TIA,
Michael

Maybe this has been going on for a while but I never noticed it until a new
user pointed it out
to me. His example was to record a MIDI region on a Audio Instrument track,
then select an
Audio Track to record on in cycle mode. Create new track and auto mute
functions are
enabled. Do three or so passes, stop and hit undo. The recordings disappear,
but not the new
tracks. The MIDI region moves back to the original track number - which is
now the wrong
instrument or even an Audio Track as all tracks are displaced by the number
of new tracks
created.
When I replicated this at home, it did exactly the same thing except I
additionally get two of
the clone tracks sometimes recording instead of just the first one. The
ensuing cycle removes
the duplicate recording but not the new clone track so I end up with tracks
with no recording
on them.

Hi.
I'm trying to decide between the MacBook and MacBook Pro. My biggest issue
is with the
FireWire bus. I'll be using a Metric Halo 2882 +dsp on the FireWire bus so
my only options for
external drive on the MacBook would be if it's daisy-chained to the sound
card or connected
through USB 2.0. I understand that the USB 2.0 is not implemented well
enough on Macs (it is
slower than FW400 on my PowerBook) and I'm wondering whether the FireWire
bus won't be
"too busy" with the Metric Halo box connected to it directly, to
perform well in situations
where the external hard drive is working "hard". Can anybody shed
more light on this?
Also, how important are the graphics card and video memory, in which the MB
Pro is
superiour, to someone who will only use his machine for Logic Pro and other
audio-only
applications?

Hi. I am using Logic 4.7.3 Platinum to do some mixing work at the moment. I
have noticed that when I send my drum tracks (1-8) on a stereo bus 1&2,
and
then put a compressor over them when they come back on returns 1& 2, the
level coming back off my returns does not directly correspond to my master
fader.
i.e. in order to avoid clipping having used up head room near the end of the
mix, I took the level of the master fader down very slightly but noticed
that, whereas the level of the drums did fall on bringing down the master as
expected, the compressed drums of buss send1 & 2, which were coming back
on
returns 1&2 did not fall in direct relation to the rest of the track
which
left my mix unbalanced. Again, they did fall, and indeed when the master was
fully down they were completey muited along with everything else, it's just
I thought the master should reduce everything (including returns)
relatively. The compressed drums were left very noticeably above everything
else in the mix when pulling the master down. So I guess what I'm asking is,
has anyone had a similar problem and am I missing something in my signal
routing?
I'm running Logic 7.1 with an M-Audio Keystation 61 and MOTU 828 on a dual
2.0 G5. The M-audio controller is connected directly to the G5 via USB.
Here's the problem... The keyboard works initially, but after playing a few
notes Logic stops getting MIDI in signals. It can be fixed by resetting
MIDI drivers in the MIDI preferences, but obviously this is a bit of a drag
to have to do every 5 minutes.
Anyone else have a problem like this? Any advice?
Thanks,
~Art
