Elliot Scheiner is my mentor! Using the verb model I was dealing with on tracks by California Guitar Trio, 1/2 dB made one hell of a difference in the clarity of the guitars. Too much by a half blurred the sound, and too little by a half did not provide enough verb. Thanks for coming to my defense. I do a lot of these minute settings with eyes closed, and randomly go up and down until it is right to My Ears. Once I find it, I have to have it that way. Will anyone else notice? Probably not. Speaking of 'rules', nothing I do can get Apple Mail to pick out the LUG mails when they arrive - for some reason it doesn't see the "LUG" in the subject line, or the logic-users email address in any of the mail categories. How did you set up a rule that actually "sees" the LUG mail? My rules are working for other mail - I tend to use background colours to identify the different mail, which makes it easy to sort and see. cheers Ian

Note the option that makes the filter stop checking other rules (I believe it's on by default for every new rule). If you have a rule that colors LUG mails and then doesn't check further rules, the rule that was supposed to put them in a separate folder will be ineffective. I filter using the from-address, and have my mailinglist rules before all others. Even before that, I delete mails from logic-users@yahoogroups.com with [LAW] in the subject. Maurits.

I have tried freezing, but the frozen > track always sounds different too. Is there an easy way to make such a sound > repeatable? I almost asked this question here myself one time, but then I looked a bit harder at Sculpture itself and worked out what needed to be done. It's not necessarily easy, but I see no way around it. Basically you have to manually check through the parameter settings for the patch you're using and turn off all the ones that add random effects. If you do this, you'll end up with a repeatable sound (though I will present an alternative method afterwards.) This is fiddly for Sculpture 'cos it an above-average number of parameters and features which induce random effects - maybe more than any other Logic synth - and they do a lot to create the Sculpture sound. So it's possible that in the case of some patches, by removing all the random content, you'll end up destroying the sound you liked in the first place. But not necessarily. You just have to do it and check. So, as to which parameters to check - There are the two Jitter LFOs which are dedicated to adding random development to the sound. Turn them off. Anything which uses the 'bouncing' Disturb/Damp type can't be synced or anything. Any LFO which is set to 'sample and hold' will be adding random effect, so you need to change it to another setting. And I think nearly all the effect value dials (EG Vibrato, Phase, etc.) have a middle range in which they produce random values, so you have to turn them to settings where they aren't doing this. Also, there's a global 'warmth' setting, which detunes randomly ala the Analog dial in most softsynths. If you're still checking around for things to de-randomise, you could set this to zilch as well. I think that's about it. This all might sound like a pain but once you've familiarised yourself with the method once (which is really saying, with quickly scanning the settings of the Sculpture console itself), it actually isn't much of a fuss. The plus for me was that it was trying to address this issue that made me first sit back and properly learn about the way Sculpture works! Alternative method to the whole thing: As you've noticed, freeze will lock in one performance, but if there's ever a re-freeze, obviously the performance changes and you can't depend on it. The workaround is to do an actual bounce. Re-import that, and that becomes your locked in reliable performance. Obviously this isn't flexible or ideal, but it is a way around the problem if you can't de-randomise the sound or you find that doing so wrecks what you liked about it. Maybe they could add a 'de-randomise' button... Hope this helps.

Subject: Linking Split Stereo Files. Logic 5.5.0 PC
Message #210461
Hello all, After some extensive search and troubleshooting I have decided to post this question. I have Logic 5.5.0 Platinum for PC. I am having trouble linking split stereo files in the arrange window. When I listen to them in the audio window they are linked and are played back in stereo. When I drag them from the audio window to the arrange window only the left(L) wav file is brought in, when I bring in the right (R ) wav file it does not stay linked to the left wav in track one. Left and Right, in tracks 1 and 2 are not connected, and they seem to have the same wav overview. And they sound mono. Even when I pan the tracks to the left and right. I have tried selecting all and linking split stereo files in the audio window. I ask this, because I use logic on the PC at home and logic v6.x on a G5 in an other location, when working with split stereo files, they stay linked on the G5. Thanks for the help.

Subject: [LUG] Working with object groups
Message #210462
Hello, I have some trouble getting the facts from the manual to work in reality. Logic Pro 7 manual, page 245 - Working with object groups. I use LP7.1.1. I need to create 32 Aux objects in the Enviroment, the first one as Aux 1channel with Bus 1 as input, the second one as Aux 2 channel with Bus 2 as input etc. It seems that with the "Apply Buffer Template to" function I should be able to create object, automatically assigned to increasing channels, so the first object would be Aux 1 channel, the second one Aux 2 channel. I just dont understand the manual, whatever I do, the "Definition, channel increment" does not seem to do anything. How is it supposed to work? Even then, it seems to me that it is not possible to select multiple objects and set different inputs on all of them, the input number increasing by 1 from object to object (Bus 1, Bus 2 etc.). The only thing that is clear to me is that auto-increasing numbering works while renaming multiple objects. I know this can be done manually, but I am trying to find a better way. Thanks for any ideas, Petr

Do you know offhand if you can just un-mute the folder in the automation window instead of unpacking it? I guess I could just try it but I'm in the middle of something else. I didn't have time to check how reliably this works but the technique of packing the automation tracks into a folder (within the automation window) to create alternate mixes seems to work by just muting or un-muting folders (as opposed to unpacking it). The caveat seems to be that the automation plays but doesn't display in the arrange as TBA. I only tested this with volume automation and on one track. best, Nathan ___ Nathan Rosenberg Music Production The Doghouse NYC www.doghouseNYC.com

Subject: [LUG] OT: French petition re Internet and music
Message #210471
This is a reply to #210449.
To all forum visitors, This is off-topic but a big musical issue which affects us all. I hope Admin will allow this post. SACEM (the French society for Composers & Authors) has launched a petition to protest against a draft law regarding music and the Internet. They write: APPEAL FOR SIGNATURE AGAINST "THE GLOBAL LICENSE" FOR CULTURAL WORKS ON THE INTERNET Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the Parliament, At the time of the study of the draft law " Author's right and neighbouring rights in the information society" some of you have voted on december 21 for an amendment equalling any downloading of cultural works to private copying ; thus opening the way to a lump sum remuneration (called "Global License") for the creators and all those who bring life to creation. Although it seems essential to permit the Internet to offer better access to creation and to respect the freedom of Internet users, we cannot accept this at the expense of authors and artists. Should it be confirmed, this provision would be: * unfair for the creators insofar as their remuneration would virtually disappear, *inequitable in the distribution of the revenue because the plan calls for a distribution based exclusively on "surveys", which would exclude lesser known authors and artists, *disastrous for the financing of creation and new talents' as it would lead to the disappearance of legal sites, * fatal for the diversity and the renewal of the French musical works. France is the country which has invented the author's right, the Parliament cannot assassinate it. Therefore we are solemnly asking you to reverse this amendment. [/quote] Please visit this address and sign the petition: http://www.sacem.fr/petel/fwk/main.jsp The text above is the text of the English translation download on that page.
