Subject: [LUG] How are track names linked to object names?
Message #210427
When I name an instrument audio object in Environment it shows up on the track list but the track name is sometimes something else. eg. I have named an Instrument Fader 'UltraRide' - and there it is on the track list, but when selected my track calls itself by the saved Ultrabeat setting 'Peter Kit Wicked Game' This is bonkers! I can't have tracks named after plugin settings - most cnfusing, especially if I am using the same setting on different instances. 'Ride' track is 'Ride' track - isn't it? What am I doing wrong please? peter

Message #210428
Hello everyone! What I would like to do is take a song (and all of its edits) and export one file for every track, at unity gain, with no processing, at 24-bit. Each file should be the exact same length. The only way I could figure out to do this was to solo one track, cancel its processing and sends, turn Output 1-2 to mono at unity gain, and do an offline bounce – then repeat for every track. This is very time consuming, and requires too much interaction. Is there a better way to do this (on Logic 6)? Steve!

Bypass all processing and automation and choose the file/export function. Oh, duh... sorry. Logic 6. Well you could still freeze the tracks (bypass plugins) and pull them out of the freeze folder in the same directory as the song. You may want to change the preference which determines if freeze files are 24 or 32 bit). best, Nathan ___ Nathan Rosenberg Music Production The Doghouse NYC www.doghouseNYC.com

The System performance "Audio" measurement is showing CPU usage, it's not a disk problem but rather a bus/cpu limit. There are users on the list that could max out three linked dual processor G5's quite easily, so don't feel alone. Would be interesting to see what you're using with the 17 tracks you have recorded so far. A list of effects and soft instruments. If you're using Space designer substitute a lesser reverb... then when you get ready to mix try upping the buffer to 1024 and see if you can add Space Designer in real time... if not, bounce/freeze the Space Designer tracks. Subject: [LUG] Audio midi sync error
Message #210431
I have been using logic 7.1 with no problems until today. I start a song that was previously recorded...and instead of any sound I get clicks and pops and error messages telling me that there is an audio midi sync error. The only thing I can think of is that I did a software update for my mac last night. Before that there was no problem. Does anyone have any suggestions I have a deadline to deal with...and I am freaking out!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated Peter

The manual is quite good on this. Apply it to your main output. I assume you are bouncing to one output in Logic. If you have more than one pair of outputs and going into a desk, it would be best to do the fade on the desk. -- Pete Thomas www.petethomas.co.uk Logic Tutorials, Hints, Tips, free Icons, Environments EXS Instruments (donationware) ***Please support my trek in the Andes in aid of APEC*** ***info & sponsorship: http://www.justgiving.com/petethomas***

Subject: [LUG] sculpture different every time?
Message #210433
I have a sculpture question regarding patches that sound different every time they are played. (take the preset: effects/transitional/silicon garden ambience, for example). Velocity is constant, and the sound seems to have fully decayed before retriggering. I have tried freezing, but the frozen track always sounds different too. Is there an easy way to make such a sound repeatable?   best, Nathan ___ Nathan Rosenberg Music Production The Doghouse NYC www.doghouseNYC.com

Subject: [LUG] Numbering Audio Regions For Creating Samples
Message #210434
Hi There, I often create a number of audio regions from a drum loop, or chromatic synth samples in the arrange window, which I then want to turn into samples that I will load chromatically into the EXS24. When you select all of the regions of the same track and click on the 'name' parameter in the track's parameter box, you can name all of the regions, with unique numbers, all in one shot (very cool). I like to number things as follows 01, 02, 03, etc... because this will allow the EXS to recognize the proper order of the samples. However, it seems that Logic now names regions using OS X's ability to recognize number sequences properly. Even if I name the first region Hit01, the second region will be named Hit2. The problem with this is that the EXS will then load the samples out of order - Hit01, Hit10, Hit11, etc... So, the question is, is there any way around this without having to manually number every region, which sometimes is as many as 60+ regions? Thanks, Matt

Well we've established by now that people use reply to start a new thread, but indeed it is weird that threads with the same subject get broken up; it could be that some non-rfc-compliant (read: made by Microsoft) ;o) mailer ignores message IDs when replying, but Apple mail also threads messages _by subject_ even when they are completely unrelated. When I switched on threading in my inbox, I got one huge thread of mails with subject "Re: site" (a popular subject since I'm also a webdesigner) ;o) from people who do not even know each other. So let's say the threaded display can help order stuff but it's not something to rely on and it might not just be the posters who are responsible for that. :o) Maurits.

Message #210439
I have just recorded my band. And i heard form some people that you can sample replace things like a kick drum with a better kick sample by converting the audio to midi. Its meant to read the velocity of the notes and everything, I currently use ProTools, but do own a copy of Logic Express, and want to upgrade soon. The person that i heard it from was using Logic so Im assuming its a process in Logic. Does anyone know? If not, its it some sort of plugin, and whats its name.

You're not doing anything wrong. You just have different choices for different things. I personally never rename audio objects. I always leave them as Inst 1 or Audio 01 etc... Track names are for naming tracks. Object names are for naming objects. In the arrange window, track names have priority over object names unless you have the track zoomed vertically to such an extent then you will see track name (if you've given one) and object name. In the environment there will not be a track name anywhere to be seen. Here you will see object names only. If you need to see a mixer in the course of your work, use the Track Mixer rather than the Audio page of the environment. It offers the major benefits of only displaying audio objects used in your arrangement, and it will also display those objects track names along with object names if desired. I suggest you use track names for naming tracks and do not change object names from their original names. It will be less confusing. Right, that's definitely an issue, one that I've mentioned several times (to no avail, people *still* do this despite being specifically asked not to). However, that's not the entirety of the problem, as I often see replies from other threads (not new messages). Not that I'm trying to defend the mail program but possibly, the issue here is those replies that loose their thread are sent from members who receive the digest and reply to the thread from the digest, and as I think we've discovered if you reply to a post from within a digest the threading will be stuffed up also. Fully agree how annoying it can be. All those pesky little emails not behaving themselves well. The single biggest improvement I've made in mail handling in the at last 8-10 years where I've been receiving 100+ mails a day (currently around 280-300) is dumping the digests in favour single mails all sorted into their own folders via mail program rules. This way even if some messages do loose their thread it's not too huge a deal since they'll turn up within the next 40 or 50 within that folder...
