Using Logic Pro 1.1, I've just reached the end of putting together a song
and
want to get the effect of an almost instant/vertical fade out after a
particular last beat.
My plan was to do this by either putting a single Mute automation point at
the appropriate
place on my master Output 1-2 track, or by drawing an almost vertical
automation line to
zero at the same point. However with either method, I've noticed that my
output track is
reacting to the automation exactly 1 beat earlier than I've drawn it.
I can't work out why this is. There's no delay parameter available on the
output track, and
all my audio and instrument tracks are reacting to their own automation
precisely on time.
I kicked the plug-in delay compensation up to its highest setting just in
case this was
making any difference, but it's not. Besides, there are no plug-ins on my
output track yet,
anyway.
Can anyone suggest to me what might be going on? Any preferences or general
Logic
behaviour I should know about that I mighta missed or not be aware of?
Thanks.

The list is moderated.
If anyone is interested, the answer to this sample clipping is posted
over in the exs-users Forum.. A great guy named Don Newmeyer pointed
me in the right direction. If interested flip over to that forum and
search for the "Maestro Grand"... Cheers!

It would be nice if they could get Logic Pro 7 and Wave Burner to work
better before they
concentrate on version 8. I, along with many dedicated logic users am very
disappointed in
Apple's takeover of Logic. I'm a proud Mac owner, but I am not satisfied
with this outcome.
Let's face it, logic is not as robust as it used to be.

And, are there drivers for the DIGI 001?
I don't use many plugs simultanously, but I'm guessing I'll need to
get more RAM.
Any input is appreciated.

You didn't get what I meant: the machine drum has simple, but special
engines to provide different sounds.
(it's of course not analog (and I'm not stupid !) - but it has a
special sound..
to achieve a nice bd it's good to reduce the sampled(?) click sound
of the 'TR' and '??'(½)-engin with the build in parametric eq..)
with ultra beat, you have a generic drumsyntheziser, with many
features and a strange interface..
I was wondering: how many Luggers really use UB ?
and, if you use it: do you really make your own drumsounds ?
I'll send you offlist some samples of bds I did.
(making long booming BDs should be no problem - but a TR808 is more
than this..)

Hi
So I have everything setup to my MOTU MTP. Ports 1-6 have Hardware synths,
and drum modules to each port.
Port 1 Midi Channel 1 Voyager instr to seq input
Port 2 Midi Channel 1 Andromeda instr to seq input
Port 3 Midi Channel 1 Jupiter 8 instr to seq input
Port 4 Midi Channel 1 Nord Lead 3 instr to seq input
Port 4 Midi Channel 2 Nord Lead 3 instr to seq input
Port 4 Midi Channel 3 Nord Lead 3 instr to seq input
Port 4 Midi Channel 4 Nord Lead 3 instr to seq input
Port 4 Midi Channel 5 MicroKorg instr to seq input
Port 5 Midi Channel 10 Roland VDrums instr to Port 6 Midi channel 1 Alesis
DM5 to seq input
Port 5 Midi Channel 10 Roland VDrums instr to seq input
Now I can control everything via the matrix editor, only the added notes
will trigger the synth.
I can even record 2 midi tracks at once pressing the keys on the synths, and
having them record their own input which is correct.
The problem I have is when I go to record a new midi track with a differnt
instrument, and one of the other midi tracks are playing back while I
record. It basicly puts the other midi track notes in with the new device
that I am using. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Its driving me
crazy.. I am soo close to getting Logic fully setup, and now this. Was
hoping there was someone on this forum that might have a setup closer to
this for helping me out.
Thanks,
Scott
I found the preference files, as described in the manual, but I seem to have
two...
com.apple.logic.pro (which has the logic icon)
com.apple.logive.pro.cs (which is just white paper, no icon)
What is the difference? I'd like to know what I'm deleting before I delete
it.
Thanks again in advance for any help you all can provide.
Dear users of Logic
I have searched in your answers but I havent found one that matches my
question so here it is:
When I am writing scores in the score editor I find it anoying that
Logic tries to predict what I am going to write. I cant just write what
I want. It seems like logic is overruling my decisions. Logic is
deciding what kind of breaks I should use fx. Is it possible to switch
this behaviour of?
Happy new year
Roger wrote: Let's face it, logic is not as robust as it used to be.
There must be issues outside of Logic that gets these irregularities. I, and
many others, find Logic completely stable which indicates that it must be
something else that causes the instability. I come from PC where the choice
of motherboard, soundcard, modem.....really makes a difference so I´m
used
to this. What would be interesting is to compare good Mac systems to bad ones
to see if it's possible to pinpoint the cause.
I have a G5 2.3 PCI-X with 4.5 GB ram, internal HDs (no firewire), RME 9652,
UAD1 and TC Powercore MrkII. The only software that I use apart from the
included are Logic Pro 7, Toast 6 Titanium, plugins (mainly the more
expensive ones like PSP, Ohm Force, Sonalksis etc) and EXS Manager Pro. I
can run with 64 in buffersize during recording of at least 16 simultanous
tracks and I never have had to go higher than 128 which I only have to use
after severe plugging in.
The only problems I have is when I import huge LAW 5.51 files in which case
the system sometimes do strange things although crashing is still very rare.
Personally I don't think much about Logic 8, the current one does everything
I can think of but as always with Logic you have to spend a lot of time with
the program to figure it out but I find it's worth it.

I'm pretty confident that they will get it working better but I doubt
that this happens before Logic 8 or whatever they will call the next
release of Logic.

Just to get this *really* clear in my fuddled head - this applies
even when
NOT using software monitoring?
Am I right in the following assumptions?
1 'old tracks' recorded before PDC : to add new audio keep PDC off?
2 'old tracks' recorded before PDC : when mixing have PDC on?
(optional)?
3 'new tracks' recorded with PDC on : to add new audio keep PDC on?
3 'new tracks' recorded with PDC on : when mixing have PDC on?
(optional)?
If using a plugin on an aux channel (audio track > aux object
(submix) > output
does this cause latency? Is one cure to insert equivalent plugin(s)
on other aux
objects? Can they be by-passed in this solution, or do they need to
be active but
set to have no effect? (e.g compressor with very high threshold).
Do all the above affect midi / audio instruments in the same way?
Kind regards,
Mike.

Rather than written error messages, it will swear loudly in Slovakian
whenever something goes wrong.
Also, the entire GUI will be replaced by a single button that says
"Create Hit Song." This is in keeping with Soundtrack Pro, which
will
replace its own GUI with a single button that says "Create Hit
Soundtrack." Waveburner Pro's GUI will be replaced by a button that
says "Assemble Hit Album."

PS--the real answer: not only does nobody know this, but if anyone did,
to tell anyone the answer would be a violation of whatever employment

Why a Luger? Are you assuming all the co-moderators are German, have
German guns, or live in Germany? I, for example, live in the United
States, and I'm watching you with my crossbow. :)

Greetings Benjamin,
Yes! I use UltraBeat and I totally love it. Once I twigged on how to
start multi-channeling UltraBeat's individual parts through Aux
channels -- Game Over! Hook, line & sinker!
I don't think the interface is strange at all - feels very
comfortable -- like the ES series synths and actually a whole lot
easier to figure out than many of them -- certainly Sculpture &
probably the ES2 as well... I find are quite a lot more confusing
when it comes to sound design.
I found it very easy to start tweaking the sounds that are in
UltraBeat's factory kits... just select a drum sound turn on one of
the modules and start twiddling those dials!
Making completely new sounds isn't much harder - check the Plugin
manual UB tutorials. With the relative ease of loading in samples,
(and UB ships with a huge library of them!) I find it strange that
people would prefer using the EXS24 for drum parts.
Likewise, I am surprised at the number of Logic users who are adding
all kinds of 3rd party plug-ins to essentially cover what can already
be done with the tools we already have available in LP7.
For those who have been at it for a long time, most likely it comes
down to force of habit and what people get used to... and in the case
of newer users, like myself -- not fully understanding how to use the
software. :)
best, PETE (http://www3.sympatico.ca/petedako/)
ps: for those who haven't seen it yet here's a nifty Apple
"QuickTour" video about Ultrabeat:

I'm no Environment expert, but it sounds to me like you may have an
extra cable in your Environment hardwiring the output of one of your
MIDI devices to an input. Take a look there---but be careful!
Hi,
I'm going overseas soon to work with a singer. I've got MIDI tracks on my
computer, but
have no way to record live audio into my G4 Mac laptop, 1 Mghz, 756 RAM.
Is there a portable interface you'd recommend -
can you list a first choice - what's the best + why, and second choice -
what's demo
decent + why? And a listing of approx. $$$ appreciated.
If you think better to blow $$$ on a slightly larger rack - where more bang
for buck, vs.
easily portable... then let me know too. Or maybe, I buy a killer portable,
and eventually
get a rack in the future as well...?
Thanks for advice, Happy New Year!
