Ciao,
I am attempting to use DFHS (Drumkit from Hell Superior) in a Logic
project, unsuccessfully. Logic inevitably unexpectedly quits while
loading the DFHS kit into memory.
This is happening in one rather audio instrument-laden song (all
Native Instruments Kontakt). Is there a known incompatibility? More
to the point, is there a fix?
DFHS 1.5x (latest)
Logic 7.1.1
OS X.4.3
Kontakt - latest
Thank you...
Cheers,

I have found that the ES-1 synth is great for this kind of thing. I usually
come across these "video game" sounds by accident while
experimenting, so I
don't remember exactly what I have done in the past to get them.
Play with different settings - especially the LFO section. Try setting the
LFO to modulate pitch and go from there....make sure that "Int via
Whl" is
set near the top if you are not using a mod wheel.

Howdy ya'll,
I have a student/friend that is getting married this weekend, and he wanted
to sing to his bride during the ceremony. However, he has some serious
pitch problems, so I offered to record his song so I could polish it and
provide his best possible performance, and then he'd have a nicely labeled
cd to be able to present to his new wife too. However, after SEVERAL takes,
there is one particular section that desperately still needs help because
the pitch is sooooo off.
So I just was thinking about some of the stuff that ya'll have mentioned
being avail. to help with vocals and such, but can't seem to find anything
specific for really good pitch correction. I've tried Logic's Pitch
Enhance, but it's not much help. In particular, if there's anything avail.
as a fully functional 30 day demo, that's really what I need. This guy's
wedding is this Saturday, and I was really hoping to be able to let him hear
the finished product tomorrow night to make sure I've got time to make any
changes if need be. I've been working on this since this past Sun. night,
so time is certainly of the essence now.
Oh, this plug-in preferably needs to be able to work w/ Logic Express on a
Mac osX (tiger). Although I'm requesting a download-able demo because I
need this quickly for a short term use, if it works well I'm quite positive
I will be purchasing it. So I'd prefer to go ahead and get it for Logic
since that's where it'll be used. Oh, yes, I need it to work very well, but
fairly economical too would really help!
(A less desirable option would be something that'll run on a pentium 3. I
have Logic 5.01 Platinum--which I never could figure out on the pc. But now
that I'm getting Logic 7 figured out somewhat, that might be a workable
solution. On that same pc I also have SoundForge XP 5, but so far haven't
been able to get an Atares directx plug-in to show up. Don't know if xp
didn't support that, or if I just have it installed incorrectly or in the
wrong location.)
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!!

Another trick is to open the EXS24 but NOT load any sampler program.
Then it plays only a sinus tone and you can mould that with bit
crusher and EQ.

Hi, I'm running your same software config minus Kontakt with no
problems. I've used DFHS on my last 8 songs with no problems...
actually I really love DFHS. It was a little tricky for me to get it
set up in the first place, but now it works great. I don't remember
why it gave me a headache at first, other than just about everything
I try to do in Logic gives me a headache until I figure it out. Then
I'm fine from then on. ~Rufuss

Well: I have a similar problem with my PowerMac G5 2x1.8 Ghz (equipped
with 1,25 GB of main memory and a total of 4 memory slot)
I´ve open the Activity monitor utility, and selected the memory
activity. When I open my current logic project the free memory was about
12-15 MB and the page in/out indicator shows very high values so I´ve
deducted than the problem was than I need more memory. For test I change
all the Kontakt 2 and EXS instances for another sof synths (I've tried
with Absynth adn ES2), and the computer run without problems. I`ve buyed
2 GB of memory and tjhe problem seem solved (well I canoot text
extensively due than 1 SIMM memory was bad, and the computer crashed
when I´ve loaded the logic project, but I´ve turned out the
computer,
and when I´ve restarted, the computer only recognized 2 GB (the total
amount is really 3 GB), but then computer runs well, and the logic run
fine with my current project; I´m going to replace the defective
SIMM)
I dont know if this is your case but you can check.
Regards.

Hi Darlene-
I would suggest downloading Antares Autotune. Here is
the website:
http://www.antarestech.com/
I am not sure if you would need VST or AU but they
have both versions available as a limited time demo.
The other option is to download a program called
Melodine. It is a little more difficult to learn/use
and is a stand alone program - not a plugin for logic.
Good Luck
Greg

Thanks for your reply, Steve. Mostly been going with the MIDI input so
far, which as I mentioned works fine in Garageband and Ableton Live.
Also ran the MIDI into an Alesis Nanosynth in order to try left &
right audio inputs. Again, no audible monitoring, though the signal is
visible onscreen. Maybe I'll just reinstall everything this Saturday
and see what happens -- a geek's holiday (again).
Thanks once more,

Try stopping, then restarting playback. On my Dual, this occasionaly
happens and when I restart playback the load is spread across the two
processors evenly. I think Logic's CPU monitor needs updating!

Hi Kim,
not that I'm aware of. Try taking Logic's prefs (a .plist file) out
of its folder, as well as a possible autoload you're using. When
you start Logic it will present you with a setup assistant. Chose
internal (built in) audio, and see if the bounce problem persists -
assuming you were using a dedicated audio card / device. Some
more specs about your system? Which version of Logic?
Regards, Justin.

Another thing you may wanna check out is the Chip32 plugin. It's a free,
simple plugin
instrument whose purpose is to produce simple, old school sounds. Visit this
page for the
link (also note the other cool plugins there which have been ported to Audio
Unit.)
http://www.apulsoft.ch/freeports/
Another less simple idea but which may prove fruitful is to run an emulator
of the desired
system - Atari, Nintendo or whatever - run some games on it and capture some
sounds
you like with the Audio Hijack program. Google 'Audio Hijack' to check out
the functional
demo.

Hi folks, this question pops up every now and then - I thought
I had sorted this out, but with a new OS, a new version of
Reaktor and a new host, it's back to head-scratching again.
I'm trying to see the actual parameter names of any R5
ensemble inside Logic Pro 7.1.1. What I actually see is P0001,
P0002 a.s.o. I have tried unchecking "hide names", sort and
compress IDs and whatnot. Has any of you successfully
managed to make Logic / R5 display proper (and all present)
parameter names, and if so how did you do it?
Thanks for any advice!
Regards, Justin.

Check out the following sounds as starting points:
ES1 --> Electronic Percussion --> Kik Drum Q Attack
ES1 --> Electronic Percussion --> Kik Drum Very High Q
ESP --> Game Boy
ESP --> Hard Kik
ESP - Low Beep (raise the Frequency dial and add mod wheel)
ESP --> Percussive Synth A (pull all the wave faders on the left down
to nothing, bring the frequency dial all the way to the left and the
resonance dial to about 2:00 o'clock)

I must admit I've never been able to do this (up to 7.1.1/R5/OSX.
4.3). I've given up waiting for this and tweak parameters to find the
right automation channel. Mike

interesting thought - however that is not the case for me - since I do not

Now I am interested in another aspect of system performance.
Question: is there any wasted CPU processor power in logic for muted items?
As an example, is it more beneficial to delete unused plug-in's and
softsynths from the song, rather than just simply muting them - (option -

Additional system performance question...
several years back - at a NAMM show - the folks from Digital performer
mentioned that they were fully dual-processor aware... Meaning that all the
tasks in digital performer were divided evenly between the two processors (
assuming a dual processor computer). At the same time - the guy said that
that is NOT true for logic ( around version six or so) ... And he said that
logic was divided differently : one processor for audio - and the other
processor for MIDI ... Somebody working at the logic booth confirmed this
at the time.
If this is still true - it seems like an inferior system - because MIDI - by
itself - does not take much processor cycles - So therefore much of the
'midi side' processor would be wasted - doing nothing. Now of course maybe
this is not the case, so please enlighten me...

I believe that muted channels still eat CPU, but muted tracks (on the
arrange window) do not. Muted channels need to be able to
instantaneously unmute, which can only happen if the sample data is
going through all processing but just not summed in.

Hi again
Yes, I wish more would chime in as well.
If they don't, you can search for more people who have already
"chimed in" in the past. That's what Google is great for. Call
Motu directly. Ask them which interface they would choose if both
Firewire and USB 2.0 ports are readily available. Also, note that
the Motu 828 is more of a "consumer level" piece of gear priced
much
lower than even their own 896. I didn't look to confirm, but I would
be amazed if they offered their 896 in this configuration. It just
wouldn't make sense.
Now look at the offerings of companies like Metric Halo, and RME.
These 2 companies have the most respected Firewire interfaces out
there, albeit at a higher price. Neither company tries to compete at
the lower price points. Neither company offers a USB line. RME,
btw, also offers excellent PCI solutions.
Well that's enough for me!
Good Luck
Stefan

Logicians,
I have heard of a plug-in available that's made by Nokia to help you EQ
Ring Tones for Cell Phones. Does anybody know of anything like this for
the Mac?
Can I just export a song as MIDI once it's completed, as well? I'm not
in my studio to check, though I imagine I should be able to pretty
easily. I'm running Logic 7.1.1 on a 2x2ghz Mac G5.
Also, does anybody have any tips for making them, in terms of
compression, etc.?

Well, geez dennis, please don't take your frustration out on me......
I was only trying to help.
And, FWIW, when I'm in session and the artist asks for "effects"
while recording, about 99.9% of the time they mean reverb.

I run into this problem all the time.
I'd like to set the measure so that I can edit to the grid in the arrange
window but I've
already got audio and midi objects that need to stay still relatively to
each other.
So, I don't want anything to move, I just want to reset the measure
underneath what's
already there.
Anybody?
