Thanks Glenn
I will check out the manual to see if there is a way of delaying midi
globally and see if that works.
I also use the AMT8 which I find great. i also use a Proteus 2000 and
a Proteus 1 with midi - they are just two units I like
despite the fact that i use a lot of Audio instruments.
I have done all the 'cs' updates to date - and like you say i think
the Digi 002 is a great sounding device and i still want to use it.
Maybe if i used the Digi 002 for Midi that may help...
Thanks for your help

Hi,
Now the XV is old and discontinued, too... ;-(
Logic supports only 14 (?) banks for each multi instrument object,
which is not enough for XV with a memory card and several expansion
boards. So I'm using 6 different multi instruments for
User/Preset Patches
Expansion Patches
Card Patches
User/Preset Rhythm
Expansion Rhythm
Card Rhythm
The drawback of this method is that you have to be careful not to
select same MIDI channels for 2 or more of these multi instruments -
they are actually the same hardware (=sharing the same MIDI port), so
every time you select those tracks the XV alters its sound (if you
set the program number in Logic's parameter box).
The custom bank messages for the XV and expansion boards are written
in XV's (and maybe expansion boards') manual. (If not, contact
Roland.) Each expansion board has an unique bank select number, no
matter where you install it.
So, the object I made for Expansion (Asian instruments, etc) is
probably useless for you, sorry.
You can set multi instruments' bank messages at
Environment>Options>Define Custom Bank Messages

Thanks Steve, I tried starting Logic without the audio and it crashed the
same upon
starting, even without audio.
I looked at the kernel panic log and it goes on about a logitech driver,
which I will soon
change
Hi. How can I use the 8 digital tracks of the 002R with Audio Logic?
I'm not able to see them in the mixer of the software.

I just saw this, think about it, the license are not
the same. What happen between 6 and 7 will not occur
again. you be able to upgrade to LP 8. I don't see
alot of people offering acad upgrades. This is where
Apple can get you. Get an old logic on ebay, its the
way to go.

Hi all,
When using an outboard reverb-unit (compressor or something else) do you
run the signal through it and record the new processed audio... or do you
prefer putting in an aux send-return loop and stay within Logic?
Thanks!

I'm still on LA 6.3.1 from the Big Box, but in it there's a main menu
selection under (I think) Audio called EXS24 Instrument Editor.
Selecting it will bring up an Open dialog box. Navigate to the .exs
file you want to edit and open it. You get the Editor window that
Peter was talking about, where you can assign different EXS outputs to
the instrument groups as you want.
I don't have GarageBand though, so I don't know if this will work with
its instrument files. YMMV.
However, I haven't been able to get this to work for me (all drums
still come through main outputs), although I have confirmed in earlier
postings that this is indeed the correct method.

Hold down <Control, Option, "P" & "R"> on
boot. Let the
chime go several times. You may have some funny things reset after
you do this. Clock, printer options, screen resolution, etc. Just
put 'em back where you want 'em and all will be as before.

Well, the 1st thing to understand (took me a while too,I want to thank
Peter Ostry for his last post on the subject)) is that a "Multi
Instrument" needs multiple "Aux Out".
So, once you've selected your EXS inst as "Multi" (a drum kit I
bet!!..),go into the Environment (Audio layer) and create as many Aux
Out you need (menu "new"->select Audio Object -> double
click it -> go
into its parameter window -> select Cha. to Aux "x").
You've now built the sub-mixer that the Multi Inst requested.
THEN you can open the EXS's edit window and the big work (pain in the
ass!) can start (if somebody knows a short cut!?).
You'll have to assign each zone to its aux channel. For this,my tip
would be to select (click-shift) first all zones which will go to one
aux,(they will appear open in the below window),so you'll just have to
check the EXS Output check box and assign the correct aux out .
After that, you should be done, you'll just have to set up the new
sub-mixer to your taste.
Good luck,
Alain
Dear all
here's the problem:
i make a new song, i work with it, edit all the different tracks,
record some lines (midi, audio, etc) no problem at all. (i'm able
to play and hear all the instruments, soundmodules etc) but after working
with that song
for couple of days, suddenly i'm not able to make new recordings within that
song.
i'm still able to listen to the tracks etx. but if i try to redo some parts
and record new
stuff... it won't work! even to play and hear my instruments is not
possible.
(at that point i opened a new song, and everything was fine. in the
fresh song i could play
and hear all my instruments)
it seems to me, that suddenly the midi-data doesn't get into logic.
has anyone heard of similar problems?
for any hints, suggestions, help
- thank you

Once you've split the midi notes, just create a new audio instrument
with another EXSP and the same patch loaded for each drum you want
individual control over. Then just route those split tracks to their
own EXSP instance.
This is wasteful of RAM, but will work fine.
Hi All..
I'm an OS9 mainstay who's finally given into Tiger and made a big jump
from all-time fave Logic version 3.5 (!!) to Express 7.1 and am
wondering where the key commands for 'Split Audio at SPL' and 'Split
by Locators' are?
Also trying to catch up on whether VST plug-ins are going to be
supported or have been patched?
Appreciate any help offered.

I don't know Express. Has it a Key Commands window? Then open it
(usually with [alt]K) and type "split" or "spl" in the
upper right
search field. That should show you the shortcut and you can assign or
change it there.

No more VST today.
Best to buy the VST-AU wrapper from FXpansion ($99), a program which
makes virtually all VST's playable. It is a proven tool.
Another way would be to run a second audio application which takes
VST's and communicate over WormHole for example. But that is far more
complicated and adds latency.

Hi,
I need advise.
I am planning to upgrade my entire rig to a simple M-Audio Ozonic
keyboard & a Mac Powerbook G4. I will probably use a regular sound
module midi to Ozonic.
Anyone with this setup can advise me on any negative tech issue?
Will latency be a problem with tis kind of setup?
Cheers!

Our set up is a Motu 828 MK II sound card with an external firewire hard
drive plugged into it
and the MOTU is plugged into the computer through an other firewire cable.
Just today after
getting set we turned on our computer and started up logic express 7 and
tried playing a
song. With in a few seconds we recieved an error that said "Error while
trying to syncronize
Audio and Midi", and some strange high pitch noises started coming out
of our moniters, but
the channal strips showed that the song was playing normally, besides for
this Error. We have
recieved this once before and after restarting the computer the problem went
away. We have
restarted 4 times already and shut of our MOTU with the computer still on
after dragging the
hard drive to the trash about 5 times. I tried looking in the some of the
preferences and just
can't find out what is going on. Can someone please help us out soon. We are
recording a CD
and have dont everything except for Vocals, and we were planning to finish
those with in the
next couple days. This CD has already been set back by months before and we
can't afford an
other set back. Please help us right away.
Thank you.

Dear Logicians,
Logic Pro 6.4.3
Roland JV2080
Roland Kybd Exr-3
I have written a trio for live instruments (2 sax) and Synth
musician, who will be using his Exr-3 keyboard. He will both PERFORM
(pads) and TRIGGER midi sequences performances (one per movement).
Each sequence performance will contain 3 or 4 patches.
I am attempting to import midi sequences composed in Logic (and Jv
2080) to the Exr-3. The Exr has a usb cable, which enables me to see
its song files in a folder within a removable drive icon showing on
my Mac desktop.
My problem:
In Logic, I seem only able to create a general-midi control change
message at the beginning of each sequence (arrange page > view >
hyperdraw > program change). I need to send the correct control
change messages (msb/lsb?) to select the correct banks as per the
exr's manual in order for the desired exr-3 patch to be chosen.
Example: the desired exr-3 patches are listed in the exr manual as:
Log Drum 50 13 24 2
Kalimba 436 109 0 2
Standard Drum 1 PC 1 (CC32-2)
I'm baffled. :-[
Please help--hope I expressed this clearly!
Thanks in advance,

Ask yourself if you have more than ONE song open using that same movie or
ANOTHER movie. This ALWAYS happens to me when I do that. Just close the
other
other songs and your glitches should dissapear.

I'm sorry to disappoint you but a lot of the key commands aren't in
Express. That's part of why it's Express and not the full pro version.
Sorry.

Do you have it on a UPS or electricity conditioner? Unplugged
Switch the voltage meter back and forth. Then plug back in.

That's it I think. Thanks a lot! But didn't I read somewhere that they had
gone out of their way
to removing bugs assosiated with having several songs open simultaneously?
Add to this
sync glitch the fact that exs intruments in the top-most song is
automatically copied down
to exs instruments situated on the same instrument slots of songs in the
back (was that
understandable?) and it seems almost useless. Rant rant. A fix of these bugs
is nr 1 on my
wishlist.
Thanks a lot Terry!
