Folders are great for handling things like drum tracks.
My advice would be to read the relevant sections of the manual,
and experiment with using the folders. Also, this exact topic was
discussed here, back around March I think, so possibly you can find
the thread (and will likely get some helpful replies here as well).
You are on the right track.

How about OMF import - has this been fixed?
I'm cheesed that this wasn't fixed in 6.4 OSX (Bento Container Error).
Cheers!
Dave.
To make mixing extrasuperPro in Logic, I'd love to have the following
without having
to think about workarounds:
1 The +3 or +6db panning law, at least on mono tracks
2 post-pan sends on mono and stereo tracks
3 automation trim on the LogicControl
4 full delay compensation for DSP-cards/outboard
5 dir-mixer plugin, for narrowing stereowidth, with finer resolution
(!)
6 linking sends (absolute/relative) on tracks
and, ahem,
7 a built-in, scalable LogicControl display window (very ego, I know)
It's strange, I just don't get excited about new Logic instruments
anymore.
There are so many great, great AUs out there, I just wanna have a
flexible host.
Anyone wanna add something to the above?

Soundhack can do this (and a million other things as well), and it's free.
Go to

But, the point isn't that the upgrade isn't a big upgrade, or worth the
money. The point is that in a situation where someone could have gone
without logic pro for a few days, and waited, it has cost an extra $299.
That, to me, right now, is a lot.
In my case, I've used Logic and Logic audio since version 1.2, and spent a
good deal of money over the years. I just upgraded my computer and purchased
the $699 upgrade. I have essentially now paid full price for Logic 7 again
as an upgrade. So, I can BOTH agree that Logic is worth the money, and also
argue that a fair upgrade policy should have saved me some money.
So, I will pay the $299, but, at the same time, I think that it is unfair,
and not really in line with what other software companies do - which is to
offer a reasonable grace period in situations like this. One can argue all
day long about what EXACTLY is a good cutoff point. That misses the point.
IN this case there is no cutoff point at all.

Sorry - and I don't speak as anybody representing Ilio or any other
manufacturer on this. I'm one of the principal programmers for Korg Japan
(main gig) and I've made 2 sampler libraries that Ilio distributes (side
gig).
You said it yourself in the above paragraph - that it's illegal. This
analogy has nothing to do in comparison to dual processors in a single
machine !!! If 2 people are using the same library (regardless of how they
do it) then they should both be paid up customers with that library. PERIOD.
No discount license fee option or special considerations. It took me over 1
year to make each of my libraries with NO MONEY for the whole time I created
it. I know a number of libraries that have taken even longer to produce !!!
I don't see how you guys think that all the sample library companies should
be expected to "simply" change their licensing structure and then
contact
every customer that has purchased an Akai or ESX24 library from them to buy
an upgraded license. It's almost impossible to make a living already doing
just sample libraries.
-John Lehmkuhl
Look, I'm sorry if this slows down the use of ESX24 (I'm on a dual 500mhz G4
- you wanna talk about SLOW ????), but in my opinion, Apple is doing the
right thing. Especially with the 64-bit version of OSX and Logic 7 coming
down the road where things will (internally) run close to twice as fast as
they already are doing now,

I love it too. It's the only one I use. It makes cleaning up live drum
tracks a breeze if the drummer is good. If the drummer is not so good I
sometimes have to automate the threshold of the gate or go in and use
gain change destructively on the audio waveform.

Paul,
If this is how it will work then I'm all for investigating changing the
EULA.
Again all I have is my opinion and not the backing of any companies, but if
it's for processor nodes to be available, then that's different than simply
multiple nodes.

It has USB&MIDI (1in/2out). You can also use it as a Midi-Interface
(just plug it in, OSX sees it).
BTW: I'm using the BCF in LogicControl mode with OS9&MIDI connected to
my AMT8.
Works like a charm. - cheers, bernd

I try to run The Grand as AU (converted via VST-AU)
I have a dual 533 Mhz G4 and Logic 6.4.3.
The Grand makes logic go down if I play to many notes. (I can't play normal
things)

Hi, I've been a dedicated PC user for years but Logic 7 has made me
decide to make the switch. Because I'm on a limited budget, I'm
looking at a 450mhz G4 cube with 512mb Ram - will Logic 7 be able to
run on this and perform acceptably?
Thanks!

I'm glad someone mentioned making money.
For me, Hardware and Software are tools that I invest in in order to
get jobs done and make money. (like a paintbrush
If, in my opinion, it isn't a good investment of my money or time, I
don't do it. Simple really.
Of course I find the Logic upgrades to be incredible value for money,
and in my world they pay for themselves very quickly indeed.
Of course I have already ordered the L7 upgrade.

sure, I track live bands all the time - and i use folders to do it.
Immediately after the take I use the key command "Pack folder".
All
tracks go into a new folder which I label.
All tracks are now empty and record enabled ready for the next take.
check out folders!

is there an answer the question about
"an upgrade path from the Big Box to Express 7?"
Does anyone know if automation data can be copied from track to track
within a group in
Logic 7?

Can computers be connected by Firewire as a node or is it only via Ethernet?

Not completely true; it's not officially supported, but there are people
using Xpostfacto to install it. AFAIK, the Xpostfacto writer is actively
working on improvements.

The OS 10.3 itself requires a USB port? Or did you mean Logic? Anyway, I
have an OrangeMicro FW/USB card in my Beige, and the USB and Firewire work
fine - the USB, for instance, supporting the XsKey for Logic Pro 6; and the
FW a LaCie DVD +/-RW drive.

Whether an old box will be useful is an individual matter - currently I'm
editing mono spoken word and 2-track stereo audio takes. For final mix
(with SD and other plugs) I couldn't possibly use it with the current CPU
(/233), but for the composite editing it still works fine.
And who knows, maybe one of those ZIF upgrade cards will allow me to run
10.3 when I do the mixing?....
Of course, I'd be a fool to try it.
But I've been a fool before..... :-)

p.s. one of the things I've read widely about Panther is that it's FASTER
than 10.2 was, noticeably. Thus it makes sense to put it into old machines,
in places where 10.2 would have been too slow. At least, that's my
theory..... hey, maybe 10.4 will be EVEN FASTER and I can get my 7100 back
from my dad, and..... ;-)

I just noticed the screenshot of the "new" logic and I have some
questions:
The tabs at the top edit-track-region-audio..... so are these
customizable or do we have to go to separate screens to get the same
info as we do in 6?
I didn't see the delay, quantize params in the arrange window etc..
I hope that this just isn't a really good version of Garage Band. I
love Logic and I don't really have time to learn a totally different
way of working.
So my question is where is all of the stuff in the left hand side of
the screen gone to?
Thanks!

Bounce & Add from Bar 1. Then you just have to create a track and place
it.
Freeze will do what you want transparently with access to the files
available in the Freeze Folder. The Freeze files can then be mamed
later for exporting/importing if required. Can't see an alternative.

Hey Skippy,
I don't agree that EXS24 running on distributed computers SHOULD be a
violation of sample disk agreements. The issue should be the illegal copies,
not the legitimate users. In a typical distributed environment (at least as
how I envision it) it would be:
Single User
Single Project at a Time
No different than adding a dual processor to a single processor system
The line is crossed (in my opinion) by going to Multiple Simultaneous Users
and Projects, such as a studio complex each handling separate clients. That
should require a Multiple or Site License.
Allowing Single Users access to full distributed computing enables a much
easier and more economical upgrade path to all users, and I would think make
sample libraries more valuable. As an example, "I would love to use
'ABC'
library (or instrument), but it bogs my computer down too much to be
useful."
As a user of multi-computer setups for 16 years for various purposes, the
maintenance of multiple project files and sample libraries greatly
diminishes its usefulness. Processing Nodes should be embraced as a way to
make processor hungry plugins and libraries much more viable.
Your friend always,
Jeff
When we record drums we use 12-14 mics, and do multiple takes, sometimes
upwards of
8, and you have to folder them, because once you get over 150 or so visible
tracks in
Logic, even if they are the same tracks duplicated many times, Logic can't
display all the
waveforms without freaking out the program and crashing....
