Hi all
Is there anything that I have to do to ensure that Logic (pro) is
working with both processors?

I had a similar problem with Intakt. Files from Sample CDs wouldn't load.
The solution was to go into Logic or similar program and convert the file to
a different format and/or bit depth, i.e. AIFF to SDII or vice versa. That
solved the problem. Kind of a pain though.

Hi for all !!!
I have Logic Pro 6.
I do not obtain to join two or more virtual instruments to play at the
sametime. For example, I do not obtain to play a piano (instrument 1 - The
grand) with strings (instrument 2 - EX24) at the same time.
Somebody has a suggestion?

You mean a standard card or card/box without any MIDI controlling? This
won't give you headache - you are going to use Logic how it likes it.
Especially if you come from analog mixing you might sooner or later be
tired of handling vertical on-screen faders by horizontal mouse
movement just one by one without tactile feedback. But if your main
interest is mixing and you are willing to spend 1500-2500 bucks you are
lucky. There are very good motorized controllers for that.
I would first get a good audio interface for a good sound and think
later about hardware controlling. The time works for you...

Damien,
I only owned the A26 before so I'm not 100% sure about the A62m.
But from that one I am positive that the s/pdif really is stereo only.
To my understanding dts passthru contains the entire bitstream thus is
multichannel and wouldn't be compatible with the device's capacities.
Hopefully someone else in the forum knows more details...

Do you know what a midi plug-in is? Users of Sonar, DP and CubaseSX
sure do.
But no - Logic don't have midi plug ins. But you can do what you want
to do in Logic's Environment - with a bit of patience.

How do I move everything from the g4 to the g5?
This seems like a simple question, but with ALL my software and
authorizations and plugins...
Any Ideas?
1) Pay apple, they have a pro user fee for $99 (will the authorizations
work?)
2) Using the Firewire Target Mode - reformat the new drive and copy the
whole old drive to the new (WILL THE AUTHORIZATIONS WORK THIS WAY?)
3) ????? Your Idea

I am new to this and have the demo version of Logic 6 supplied by
the Apple Pro Training Series. I am running a Powerbook G4 with OSX
and have the following: USB Audio Duo and a Layla 24 and a Casio
standard keyboard being used as a controller. I like to record songs
using mostly guitar, bass, vocals, simple keyboard and drum sounds.
I find that to record audio tracks I use the Duo, then have to
switch to the Layla for inputting keyboard data by switching the
drivers in the preferences window. For creating drum sounds and
anything else generated by the keyboard do I record it as a MIDI
track or an audio instrument track? Am I losing the ability to use
certain plugin sounds for keyboard or drums when not recording as a
MIDI track? I am not using the onboard sounds generated by the
keyboard. Help witht he basic set up would be appreciated. When I
open up a new song/environment, do I clear out all the default
tracks and start from scratch. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Our G4 is only a Quicksilver 867; 10.3.2 was the first version of X3 we put
up -- it was sooooo slow at screen draws, etc., so as to be outright
painful. 10.3.3 was a huge pickup in performance but still too slow; you
will probably get a much better boost toward something nice with your dual.
I don't recall the details, but I seem to recall .3 was supposed to have a
lot of GUI performance improvements over .2....
FWIW, combining this with a lot of other reasons, we decided to up to a 2G
G5 fully loaded w/ 8G of memory (which, while we love it overall, has in
turn given us some real problems being able to use our UAD card).

Thank you sir for your response,
I really dont know all that much about computers, but im running windows xp.
The computer is a deminsion 2350 desktop. Its only about 6 months old. My
vst programs im running are Edirol Superquartet, and Edirol Vsc. Is there
any way to fix this problem?
Thanks,
Brad

Interesting. I have a Quicksilver 2002 800, and have never had any
problems with the screen redraws in ANY version of OS X..
Theyve all worked just as advertised for me...

Peter, i certainly know what a MIDI plug in is.
I was asking the original poster if *he* knows the difference, because each
of the three possible answers (yes or no) would require a different reply.
BTW, the third possible answer (which is none at all) would actually require
me to restrain from writing an elaborate reply of any sort so as to minimize
unnecessary waste of electrons.

It could be that you've activated SOLO (you'll see
yellow in the timeline, and a yellow solo "S" button
in the Transport).

Best thing to do is do it the old fashion way. Copy your files over and
install everything from scratch. I can't recommend this enough, you never
know what stuff from you old system will muck things up. It's much better to
take the time to set your new system than have to figure out any problems
later.

Glenn, thanks for getting back to me. The GUI issue is not a big deal
for me on the dual 1.25. What I'd really like to know is if it is more
stable. I'm having quite a few crashing, freezing issues with Kontakt,
GPO and Stormdrum. Yes, I know, they're all NI plugs. Coincidence? I
think not. I'm hoping that somehow the 10.3.3 update will be more
stable with the NI stuff. It could just as easily be less stable.
Anyone?

If I'm not mistaken, you're on a PC. On the PC, the NI synths appear to be
relatively stable. On OSX, it has been another story. Reaktor crashes quite
a
bit when you try to do very much on OSX. I typically either use it on my PC
or
I do all of my editing in the standalone and then bounce it in Logic. Only
with the latest version of Kontakt have NI made it usable with DFD turned
on.
Even though I have had quite a few crashes in the past while, Logic has
stabilized more when I've removed the NI AU's from the components folder.
I don't think that too many people have dissed their sound, but their
stability
on a Mac under OSX has not had a great track record. You can get work done
for
the most part but it can be painful at times. I will only add that stability
has improved considerably since I first started using them on OSX with
Logic.
Even with some of the problems, this bundle deal is a great value and I'll
probably take advantage of it.

Sonar does have MIDI "Plugins" as does CubaseSX, but these are not
the same
as audio plugins. MIDI is data only, if you want to use audio plugins on
MIDI you must record the MIDI output as an audio track.
MIDI FX are simply small programs that modify MIDI data as it passes
through. MIDI plugs (in SX) include "density",
"micro-tune", "auto-pan"
"chorder"...etc..etc. The list goes on and on. You will not find
plugins
like reverb and EQ as MIDI plugs.

i'll be in a similar position once the new revision G5s come out. I've never
heard of Apple's pro user fee, and doubt it would avoid having to
reauthorize your software and plugins.
in fact i don't think there's a surefire way to copy the stuff over without
having to reauthorize. at least with the XSKey it's a painless process.
as for your other software and plugins it all depends on the authorization
scheme. while it may be a little time-consuming I can't imagine it being a
problem provided you have your serial/registration numbers stored in a safe
place. Even those apps that require authorizing via Challenge/Response on
the web (Native Instruments, Spectrasonics) are pretty quick about getting
back to you with a response.
If i were you i'd get all my registration info neatly organized and within
arms reach of your new G5.
good luck with the new computer!

Hi
I'm needing to put a portable (17" powerbook) setup together and I'm
looking at running Logic and Dp as front end software for a Digi 002
rack . I'm guessing this will work OK via asio. (yes ... no...?)
Next question - can the RTAS plugins (i.e the Bomb Factory stuff) be
accessed when running Logic or DP or only with Protools LE?
Is the Digi 002 pretty decent or should I just get a MOTU 828mk2?
Any info much appreciated. Thanks

Brad,
You didn't mention which sound card you are using. If
you are using the sound built-in on the Dell, then
that's your problem. The Built-in sound might work ok
for a few audio tracks, but once you start trying to
do real time processing (like effects or audio
instruments) you need something better suited to that
workload. Almost any USB/Firewire/PCI audio interface
will provide you with significantly better
performance.

I don't think Firewire target mode will work, but you can either use
Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware) or (if you have panther on nyour G4)
the panther disk utility restore function to clone your G4 drive to a
firewire drive, then "restore"| it onto your G5. I've done it from
G4
powerbook to a G5 and all authorisations worked saving me hours of
authorisation fun.
I have heard that there can be problems with CCC so check that you can
boot from from the firewire clone before getting rid of the G4. See my
thread on Apple discussions about this, there were some very helpful
answers:
http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?14@89.y70naBI3k24.0@.6890be37
Hope this helps

your software and plugins will have to be reinstalled and reauthorized
(except for Logic which'll just work when you plug your key in).
the reason for this is that depending upon what version of the OS your
G4 was running, there may be some differences with where things get
installed. It's generally a good idea to start from scratch, pain that
it may be. Also, if the authorization keys are based on hardware (as
is the case with Amplitube, for example), the old keys won't work on
the new machine anyway.

you could, but why bother? I doubt your authorizations will work.

That'd work, though you shouldn't need to reformat the new drive.
Again, you don't want to overwrite your OS with an older version which
may not even work with your new G5.
Personally, I'd opt for this method as it's the coolest. :)
> 3) ????? Your Idea
If you've got a superdrive, external burner, put your stuff on CD /
DVD. It's a good idea to make a solid backup before attempting
something like this anyway.
External firewire harddrive. I've got one of these (available on the
cheap these days) which I use for doing regular backups. Plug it in
and fire it up, copy your files then disconnect and attach to the
other machine.
Then there's the old network file transfer. Get yourself a little
ethernet hub or a router and hook up the two machines that way.
Am I missing anything? :)
