I have a small problem and I trust someone will have a simple solution.
I have just installed the Extreme HipHop Samples and Sampler Instruments
from original
emagic CD's.
When I try to load them into the EXS24MkII within Logic, I get the following
error message:
"the format of this file is unkown or the file is corrupt".
I have attempted to load the exs instruments via the sample editor but they
appear empty.
The Extreme HipHop Cd reads (exs24/exsp24). Do the exs sampler instruments
need to
be converted for the MKII?
I am using Logic Audio Platinum 6.3.3 on MAC OSX 10.3.2.
Thanks

How do I setup a pitch bend so I bend it to a desired pitch (note)?
If I am playing a Bflat and I want to bend the pitch 1 semitone down to
A or maybe 3 semitones, etc..

John,
It is actually not really a "docking" feature, but I know what you
mean
by using that term. It is actually something that you have to MAKE
appear, rather then "dock".....
All you have to do is go into the local VIEW menu (that is the smaller
menu above your arrange area, and not the larger, main menu up top) and
then CHECK "Transport" in there.
There ya go!
To resize the area of where the embedded transport appears (as some of
the display parameters could be hidden), just hover your mouse over the
cross-sectional area where the arrange area, track list, and time line
all meet. In that CORNER right there, if you hover over it with your
mouse you will see a little cross-hairs like thing appear.... Just
click and drag to resize the embedded transport view.

Oh......oh....that's sweet. Now I can keep the Application Dock in view.
Thanks so much.

Everywhere I look in the multiplicity of manuals, it states that the
arpeggiator function must be mapped to a MIDI instrument.
Why then are there places in the software instrument listings, ES1,
EXS24 and others, that have "ARP" as behind their preset name if
it's
not intended to be in arpeggiation? Or is trying to refer to the
classic ARP synthesizer?
Which is related to the question of how to arpeggiate a software
instrument (?), if possible.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Sorry - I can't remember when it first appeared. In 5.5 it's in the main
Options menu, 5th item from the top.
Hi everyone,
I had a very bizzare situation happen yesterday. I haven't discovered what
caused the the problem though. Here's what happened. Wednsday, I
downloaded the Beta 1.9 but didn't install it. Thursday I ran software
updated
for my dual 1gig Quicksilver mac to update my OSX Panther software.
However, when I launched Logic Platinum 6 and installed a MasterX5, my
meters which are normally green and yellow were completely showing white.
I tried to "Refresh Audio Unit Plugins" from the 1.8 installation
file but nothing
changed. Tried reinstalling permissions and repairing permissions but it
didn't
correct the problem. However, my MachFive AU, and my Oxford EQ
disappeared. When I tried to reinstall them, I would get a white splash
screen
that only said continue. I'm not sure what may have caused the problem
either
the 1.9 Beta or the OSX updates that were installed. It forced me to
reinstall
my OSX Panther software. I then ran software update again to update OSX
Panther but stopped at the latest Security Update, iSynch Update. I'm
wondering if the latest Security Update gave me a problem alsol. Upon doing
this Panther created a "Previous Systems" folder that I was able
to copy my
AU plugins and PowerCore plugins to there perspective places of my new
OSX install. I also had to reinstall my 2408MKII's PCI-424 AU driver and
MOTU USB driver for my MidiTimepiece USB AV. All is well again.
Anyone else experience this madness?

Sounds great. The autofix in GarageBand is great. Reckon the TIme
Machine Algorithm function is the next best thing.

A few weeks ago, there several on eBay. One or two in unopened boxes.
You might want to keep an eye on for there. As you probably already
know...only the current owner can go to Logic and transfer
registration. It's not that hard...but someone will have to do it if
you get a used copy.

I recently installed Stylus on a G5 dual OS 10.2
running LAP 6.3.3. Immediately after installing, Logic
began crashing whenever I tried to open autoload or
any file that was created using it.
Spectrasonics syas that autoload is corrupt (how'd
that happen?) and that I must trash it.
My question is: Is there a wasy to keep my
environment? I'd hate to have to redo all of those
patch lists etc. My second question is: Is there a way
to save my midi tracks and reload them into new songs?
Thanks, JP

One way is to create a "new arpeggio object" in the audio
environment, cable
it to the software instrument object you want to use, open a synth on that
channel and finally use the arpeggio object for the track you play in the
arrange window.
You can also cable an arpeggiotor to a "sequencer input" object.
In the
arrange window you drop some recorded midi pads (midi part, region, sequence
or whatever it's called) on the arpeggio track. Start Logic and then the
arpeggio will play through whatever track/sound you select. Good for trying
out which softsynth preset is working best for a certain arpeggio.

Has anyone seen this:
I enter some text in the score window.
If I select it and go to <Text> menu / <Size> and try to
increase the
size, it changes fonts, not size!
This used to work in OS9 but seems broken now in OSX (LAMP 6.3.3)

Well, if your intent is to sum analog, you'll have a higher s/n ratio in
the analog domain. You probably know this, if so, it's for everyone
else: routing a full scale signal into a console means you'll be turning
the input trim way down on your console's input strip, which is a vastly
better idea than feeding your console a soft signal (such as it might be
if you were summing 'in the box' then simply routed it to dedicated
outputs) and using the console's gain as makeup, which will add some
amount of noise, potentially a lot.
And then there's the camp who say that the more you pull back a digital
fader, the more damage you do to the signal. I personally believe
that's the legacy of math from a bygone era, YMMV.

Lessee...I bought Logic 5 Big Box a few weeks ago and I called Logic
Customer Support to be sure it was compatible with OS X. David Smith
said, go download Logic Audio 6 from the website and I'll send you the
codes in a piece of email. I downloaded Logic Audio 6.3.1
Got upgrades for Logic Audio 6, ES 1, ESX 24, EVP 88 all in one whack.
Very nice of them to give me a $199. upgrade like that.
DIdn't see anything about an Education Version. How would I know if I
had the Education version?

Logic Platinum has 10,000 levels of undo.
Logic Audio (what you get in BigBox) has 3.
Logic Pro is the new flagship program.
Logic Express is the new entry-level program.
"Platinum" and "Gold" are repackaged as "Pro".
"Audio" is repackaged as "Express".

James,
Find an older "pre Stylus installation song" that you previously
worked on
using your autoload and delete all the tracks and other stuff that you don't
want...until it looks like your original autoload...then save song as
"autoload".
> My second question is: Is there a way
> to save my midi tracks and reload them into new songs?
You can copy midi tracks from older songs by simply dragging the tracks from
song to song. ...open instance of song with track to be copied...open song
to be copied to... Select and drag (or use copy/paste commands) track or
part of it into new song to predetermined track and position. Once it's
there you can manipulate it like any other. Pay attention to things like
tempo changes and non-destructive changes. Normalize the tracks before
copying for instance. Make sure the track parameters are the same as
original or whatever you want the copied track to now be.
Hope this helps.
Craig
You need to download something called XS Key .DMG file at the same
emagic download site. A little thing no one ever told me either. Give
it a try.

Running LAG 5.5.1 under 10.2.8 on a beige, desktop Mac upgraded with
a 450Mhz G4 ZIF along with a MOTU 828 - don't recall the version of
the MOTU drivers (v1.06 or v1.07.)

You know the thing about RAID is, like anything else in life, you can get
dangerously false sense of security if you aren't careful.
MIRRORED drives give you data redundancy/failure tolerance but at the cost
of write performance. No software RAID mirror can give you excellent write
performance and therefore excellent overall I/O with audio applications
although it can certainly be adequate for your needs. Claims of increased
write performance are sometimes achieved with buffering but that will
actually decrease your sustained write performance.
STRIPED drives give you NO DATA REDUNDANCY at all. Nada. Of course you get a
boost to I/O performance out of it but not usually a huge boost.
For AV applications software RAID *generally* (YMMV) is a great backup
solution but a poor primary AV drive solution.
And, Chuckie, if you do decide to make do with software mirrored drives then
attach them to different cables so the I/O load is less. Don't put the two
RAID drives on the same ATA chain because, esp. if you get high throughput
drives, you'll max out the channel with one drive's data.
The same applies to firewire drives too: if you spread the load across
different channels/busses/slots you'll see a noticeable improvement.

hello, a simple question:
i'm using a Akai XE8 Drum expander (old-skool i know!) which i have
programmed to use the GM drum map to match my MPC2000 - ie Kick-1 = 36
(C2), etc. However the weird thing is that when i play a C2 in Logic
(shows up as C2 in Transport, and my XE8 Mapped Instrument), it is
reflected in the XE8 as midi note 48. I've set up a transformer to
subtract 12 from the note number, but I'm just wondering if this is
because of some kind of preference or something relating to older MIDI
kit? afaik the XE8 itself isn't set to transpose or anything, and
neither is my arrange track... also, only the XE8 is affected, not my
other synths...

Y'know, I knew Logic was streamlining their product line and figured
out that all of the stuff in the old "Big Boxes" that were
separate
components, were now being rolled into one product.
Some time after I made the install and did the codes, I opened the
System Prefs and saw a new item just for managing the key. I opened it
up and saw that I was also authorized for Logic 6 Gold...but I didn't
believe it.
So, last night I download and install Logic 6 Gold...and wala!...I now
have a bunch of Undo's...and whatever else Logic Gold offers and it's
authorized also.
I dunno man..I'm really impressed with this Logic company. Nice folks
giving me the nice upgrades. I know it won't go on forever for it sure
is a great way to get started. Impressive.
John Lee
I'm running Logic Platinum 6 under OS X. I've tried rtfm, but I have
several issues I can't seem to resolve:
1) Under File/Song Settings/Synchronisation Settings/MIDI there are
two boxes for sending MIDI clock (F8). Each box pull down menu
listing "off", "ALL", and each of the eight ports of my
AMT8. While
it should have settings for each port so it could send clock to any
combination of ports if it actually worked, it doesn't. Selecting
any of the individual ports is meaningless. If I either box
is set to anything but "off", it sends clock to all eight ports.
Not only does this include ports that do not have any devices
designated to receive MIDI clock in CoreMIDI, but ports that are
completely empty with no devices at all!! Is there any way to fix
this??
2) Even though the documentation says that CoreMIDI and the
Environment are sychronized, changes made in the Environment or in
CoreMIDI do update each other, even after restarting. Am I doing
something wrong??
3) How can I make Aliases appear differently from Real objects in the
arrange window (like "Ghost Parts" in Cubase)??
4) How can I time lock a MIDI track?? I want record events at one
tempo, then lock the track so it play back at that tempo even if I
change the tempo in the Transport Window for all the other tracks in
the song. (This is very easy to do in Cubase -- each track has this
little padlock icon).
THANX!! :)
