1. Have you tries uninstalling the AWE64 Gold and seeing if that helps.
2. Do you have a modem attached to your PC? If so, disable it and try that.
3. Any network cards? If so, disable it and try that. Note. if you have a
modem you will at least have TCP/IP networking installed.
4. Check the IRQ settings and see which of the PCI cards is sharing with
which.
My guess is that the crash and reinstall has caused a different IRQ grouping
and this is the source of the problem. Strange that only LAWP seems to be
affected.
Another thought ? Did you install Direct X before LAWP or did you use the
version on the LAWP CD ? I believe it is hard to go backward with Direct X
but as I understand it, LAWP is fussy about which version of the Direct X
Runtime Media is installed.
Hope some of this helps,
Ray
Hi Mark,
You may find the RAM a bit on the low side but if your system is well set up
and you don't run a lot of plug-ins then you could get there. The choice of
sound card will also affect the equation. Why don't you give us all the
details on your system if you want a more comprehensive answer.

I'm just getting into using Logic VS with my 1680, and I'll be slaving
an O1V for premixing. Since there had been earlier discussion of lots
of sys ex not chasing properly, it would seem controllers would work
better, since their data can be thinned. Am I missing something in
Logic for a density setting or "Thin" function re: controller
data?
I've been pouring over the owner's manual, but if it's there, I can't
find it. I'd hate to have to do it manually, event by event. Help!
Please!

Sorry I can't answer you question but I am really intrigued as to why in
the world you would want to go on using a Tascam 688 if you have LAMP. Not
to slam the 688 in any way I used to have one too (made some mixes that
went on albums with it).
I have no idea what you are doing with yours. But if you are reworking old
songs that you recorded on it why dont you just transfer the tracks into
logic and do it there? It is a pretty easy matter to realign the MIDI with
the audio manually.

Hi Sandy;
just a thought: do you disable everything thats running in the
background, like your graph card control and all that ?
second: your AW card: did you set the input selector to
analog ( audio>hardware & drivers > ) The digital input
might cause problems if selected, even when no digital source
is connected.
Did you try disabling one of the midi interfaces ?
Hope you'll sort it out

Personally, I prefer the reply at the top, so you don't have to scroll down.
Maybe it's different in digest mode?

For what its worth, i too would like to put my vote in for this
operating system. BeOS 5 is suppose to support multiple channels of
audio and i don't see why some companies should stop developement.
There is a interview with a Be official on www.lebuzz.com and he
says that BeOS is essentially the developement environment for Stinger
and other products Be is working on. It doesn't seem like BeOS is
going to dissapear just because Be is trying to find a market to make
some money. There seems to be a huge demand for an alternative to
windows and i find it strange that so many are willing to drop this
egg so quickly. Give it chance please !

I'm using Senheiser HD 600, there are beautiful, really flat. Also they are
not a closed headphone, so the sound is much more open & transparent
& lots
less stressful on the ears.

Hi there,
This is my first post to the list. I am extensive LAMP user. Setup is Mac
Blue G3, One Unitor 8 MkII,One Unitor MkI, Plenty of Synths, LAMP with Pro
Tools hardware with TDM.
I am unable to get SMPTE output from the Unitors. Am I overlooking something
or wonder whether Logic can ever put out SMPTE from the Unitor's SMPTE
output jack. I need LTC out to sync a Sonic Solutions or for that matter any
other DAW. I also do not prefer running Logic as a slave as the timing
suffers.
I have been successful with a MTP AV with its timebase switched to MTC. The
MTP AV puts out LTC but the output appears 3~5 seconds after my Logic
sequence is started. This is an awful lot of time to lock up an external
machine to LTC.
I need my interface to put out present timecode ( Time @ Song position line)
so that I can lock an external machine to it. Necessarily LTC. Any
solutions???

P.S. I am from India and work for one of India's leading Music Producer.
I want give all those struggling with crashes while using USB/OMS
interfaces this information. If you have a USB/OMS midi interface and
any currently shipping version of the MacOS this applies to YOU. (Emagic
interfaces maybe immune to this??, but it couldn't hurt either.)
I was having crashes literally EVERY 30-45 minutes. I was just
about ready to take my MidiSport 2x2 into the street and smash it with a
sledge hammer.
Then I updated my USB support files to the latest developer release
1.4f. The effect was so profound I almost couldn't believe it.
I now experience very few crashes. I've only had one crash since
I'm probably up to about 20 hours of LAMG use without a crash.........
for me this is manna from heaven.
Get it here......
http://developer.apple.com/hardware/usb/download_prerelease.html
You will need to use ResEdit. and follow the intructions in the
readme as the "USBsupport" driver will not function "as
is". A minor
modifaction needs to be made. (see the readme!!!!!!) It would be a smart
idea to make a "safe copy" of this file before you attempt the
modification.
Get ResEdit here.....
http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n10964
You will need to be careful. Don't trash the original files, just move
them out of your system folder in case you screw up with ResEdit.
I know this has be said on the list before. I feel that this is so
important that I am re-posting this to the list.
I suspect that MacOS 9.1 will contain USB 1.4 so this will not be
necessary for long. but i think that USB support is ROM based so there
will have to be some sort of ROM update.
i really hope some of you have the same results I did.
peace
Myself and other Lugers have been complaining about the native support
for the sonorus Studi/o card.
Does anybody on the list or from Emagic knows is this problem is being
dealt with.
Thanks

hi ;
I've been watching and owning the Beos for the last 2 years.
frankly:
It's a great os but without the application i want :
LOGIC !
I think the move to Free Beos is a smart move .(look how microsoft (c) roles
now with internet explorer which was a bad joke of how a browser should look
like , but they gave it free , where as netscape ,which ruled the market
,charged money).
I don't use beos, althought i own the 4.5 version .why ? I hate switching
Windows-->Beos >Windows.
And I have to use windows ,bulky as it is , for logic.
I don't want the Macos (which is monopolised ,worse then microsoft (but with
colors....)),Althought being force to ,and i will if when macosX comes out
emagic will still say :" No to Beos " version.
markus: I think that if you'll run a quary thought this mailing list you'll
find out that at least 20% will move to Beos.
and after logic for Beos will Come i think 60% of the musicians will move to
beos.
why ? you probably saw what Beos is capable of ,and it's free now - you can
bondle it with logic..
just think of the comparsion :
Beos +logic Vs Cubase +windows 2000.
TRY and find the musician who will buy the second option ..keep searching
,in the end you might find it .(maybe one of steinberg developers might
,because he's busy watching everything moving slowing and buggy).
i tried not to say things which i know have been said.
anyway .
Be Logic. :-).

Hello,
I just installed the ES1 (VERY NICE!!!!!!) & therefor also installed LAP
version 4.1.1.
The problem now is in the graphics:
When I boot Logic & open plug-ins they only look as controls in stead
of the editor-look .....(In version 3.5. I could choose between those 2
options)
Put in in another way: Gone are the beautiful graphics!
The ES1 also looks as a plug in in stead of that beautiful green synth.
Now when I boot Logic from the ES-1 demo song the problem is fixed.....
Does anyone else have this problem?
Some say I should get the latest Direct X...but why was version 3.5. okay
then?
Bye!

I have 2 pairs of them & 1 pair of 240's as well. The DF's are very
good, very musical. I can use them for pre-mixing as levels inside
appear to be as accurate as my studio monitors. They are comfy, light &
can be worn for long periods without fatiigue. Here in Canada they cost
about $170, good value.

Hi, anyone out there mixing with headphones? What do you use? I was
thinking
of getting myself a pair of AKG K240DF, but I'm curious to see what you
guys
like?
Okay...I've tried unplugging the dongle, and leaving it off for about 2
hours, then (with mycomputer shut off) plugging it back in and rebooting...
logic still doesn't see it
i dont use my mouse on that serial port
its set up as com1 (3f8, irq4), but the other port is set as com2 (2f8,
irq3), so if i do have it plugged into the wrong one, the other port should
be detected
windows can see my serial ports fine
key finder doesn't do any good, it cant see it either
ive had this problem since i first installed, but it seemed that if i tried
it and then waited, then after a while it would work (had to get
"warmed up"
i guess, but now it doesn't seem to work at all...
could it be a faulty key?
thanks
FAB
I am a three year logic user and am considering going from my power
computing system to a G4 400 (AGP). Also, I am a commerical studio
currently using 2" reel, but trying to upgrade to provide reliable(read
minmal crashes) 24 bit hard disk tracking, mixing and editing to my
arsenal I am considering the DIGI 001
or the MOTU 1224. With that in mind here are my other questions:
1. Again, I have older mac(ADB) with LA Plat 4.1.2 and an MTP
A/V(connected at modem(ADB) and I would like to use my Power computing
15" monitor with the G4. What would I need by way of ADB to USB
adaptors(how many for the dongle at it is female on both sides right?)
2. Would you recommend Griffin's imate?
3. The G4 will come with 128MB of RAM, how much would you suggest to
handle 24 channels of eq, reverb, etc) I know as much as you can afford, BUT
there has to be an amount that has been found that going above that would
add a diminishing return on a cost/performance ratio. What is that amount of
RAM?
4. Which hard drive, Cheetah or barcuuda or another less expensive one
that will do as well (ultra wide or U2W?) Since logic only requires a
tranfer rate of <3 or 10MB/s(I forget which) would either of these drive
be straight up overkill?!
5. Which SCSI card, Adaptec 2940U2W or an Atto EPCI-DC or other less
expensive that will do as good a job?
6. OS9 or get back to 8.6(I heard 9 has some problems)
Any other assistance you can provide to make sure that I do this right
would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Duron Brown

I have been using the 688 for years (since atari Notator). I often record
live drums at home or take it to a studio as a portable unit. The analogue
tape is definitely more forgiving to my very unrefined (read spastic)
recording technique. I use logic for most of my recording, but still find
applications where the 688 is a better or more convenient option. I'll also
admit that the digital/analogue hybrid studio appeals to me. I've never had
a "tape too slow" error or a "try to save song" dialog
from the 688.
Most of the time Logic works fantastically for me, and I wouldn't be without
it, but it is still capable of making me look like an idiot when I have to
tell the guitar player who is half way through the greatest solo he's ever
played that he has to start again because logic say's the disc is too slow.
Up till now I have synchronised Logic to the 688 using SMPTE/MTC. I cut the
audio files up using the scissor tool and it stays in pretty good sync. I
hope that the MMC-100 will make it so that I can leave the scissor tool
alone.
How does MMC work? If I am sending MMC should I see Midi activity on the
l.e.d's of the studio 5 the way it shows up MTC? Can I select the midi port
that it is sent to? Do I have any idea at all?
Evan
