That is your latency problem right there.
You need to set that at the lowest setting it can be on your system
and check out how it works. It may work perfectly or you may need to
increase it.
What you need to do is set the buffer at the lowest setting you can
and see if everything plays back OK without clicks pops and system
overload messages. If it does then you are set. If it does not then
you will have to bump it up to a higher setting.
Setting the buffer is a matter of making a trade of between
performance issues and latency. The performance issues including
things like clicking and popping, live input effects performance,
live input virtual synthesizer voice count etc...,
I don't know about the 001 or your system but the fastest drivers
existing right now allow a setting of 32 samples. But realistically
even on a fast machine you will not get away with using the 32 sample
setting without getting some clicks and pops.

well I think it goes up to about 70% on the first track and then
stays there until it actually does reach more than 70%. But it's not
just the meter that is broken, it actually drains a lot of CPU (at
least when I last tried it with 10.2 and Logic 6.x (not 6.3!). The
mouse gets all jumpy and it shows all symptoms of an overloading
machine.

I doubt that, I am using Panther on my secondary machine, a Tibook

Yes, I've noticed the same. I'm on a G4/800 with 1,5 GB RAM and 2 HD's.
I find it much slower than OS 9. It has become much better than the
first releases, although now (with OS X 10.3 or the latest Logic
updates, I don't know what's the problem) I find it has become more
slowly again. Especially the GUI, and like you say, selecting parts may
take quite a while. Copying, moving is the same story. It's a drag.
There's not really a flow. Other apps I use don't have this, so I guess
the problem is in Logic.

I think there are still issues with UAD-1 and the G5.
Pretty stable on the Dual g4 800. It also seems to use the native CPU
less than under
OS9. I managed to get up to 90% on the UAD CPU with both native CPU
meters on 95%

What's up with these two devices? Has Emagic stopped with their Logic
control? And if so, why? Because of Mackie? And is the Mackie Control
Universal the same, or are there differences? What would you advise to
buy (when using LAMP 6 with MacOS X 10.3, with Emagic softsynths and
EXS24)?

Hm, in that case, I dunno:)
I do use panther to write this reply, on an Ibook 600, but that's only a G3.
OSX is so amazingly beautiful and handy, with the whole intergration of
addressbook/email/calender/Ichat etc. But Logic stays on the OS9 machine
for now!

I believe Emagic and Mackie have reached an agreement whereby all systems
now
work the same such that old LC set-ups can be updated to work with other
apps,
Mackie Controls can be updated to work with Logic and the MC Universal has
all
firmware/software for 'both' pre-installed.

If you don't intend on using the controller with anything
except Logic, then get the cheaper Logic Control. However,
it can be updated to do what the Mackie Control does (probably
costing about as much as the difference in price between
them).
Once the Logic Control sells out, I doubt any more will
be made. No matter, because Mackie Control does everything
plus more (because of the recent addition of functionality
giving it the "Universal" name).
Both machines were always the same anyway, except with
different firmware inside. And different silkscreen graphics.
(you can get a Lexan overlay for the host software of your
choice: DP, Logic, ProTools, Cubase etc....)

I am happily running my Logic Control and XT with both Logic and DP
thanks to the firmware update on Mackies website.
You can purchase a chip to give you V2 and HUI mode, but you only need
it for HUI mode. The free update gives you full Logic or Mackie Control
modes, selectable on boot up.

I can't answer your problem directly, but I'm very interested in what you
have found because I am doing the same thing except routing the data to
a setup of MidiPipe (a separate application) and back into Logic. I did
not know that you could cable it into the Physical Input. Indeed I think
I tried to do this already using controllers and it did not work, which
is when I got MidiPipe to do it for me. But you say Notes work? Hmmm.
Why don't you use Notes, but keep them on a Midi channel that you don't
use from your master keyboard or other midi devices? You could use a Channel
Splitter after the Phys In to make sure no stray notes on that channel get
through.
It may be, if you have Automation Quick Access enabled, that the controllers
are being filtered off before getting to the Phys In?
Have you tried Program Change messages?
I have a problem in that Logic repeats indefinitely some Midi commands that
I send it. "Select Next Track", for example, occasionally sends
the selection
right down to the bottom track of the arrange window. Some commands, like
"Toggle Loop", freeze Logic in a repetitive loop of toggling. You
should
be OK with your song position commands, though, they seem to work fine.
Cheers,
Stephen.

Hi Jon,
Just copying from one internal drive to another internal drive...total
mouse and system freeze, cannont force quit, have to press the power
button and reboot. Also in logic, could be playing happily away, then
same total freeze except accompanied by a high pitched whine coming
from the audio card (hammerfall) outputs. I don't think it has to do
with the card, as I had the same behaviour before installing it (used
AD-8000 firewire). All diagnostic tests from the apple CD come up OK ;
yes 1 Gig xtra ram.

Hi Scott,
Sorry to hear about your ongoing woes. Is the additional hard drive one that
was
installed by Apple at the time of purchase? What brand of 3rd party ram did
you
install? Would it be possible to remove any and all hardware (ram, drives,
pci cards
etc.) that didn't ship with the computer and run a simple test with Logic
simply using
coreaudio? It sure *sounds* like some funky hardware compatibility issue.
best,
Jon

So far, it works just as advertised, I love it! I never ran it under OS9, so
I can't
compare it to that.
***BUT***, I can no longer properly put my G4 to sleep, the monitor goes out
but the
fan stays on. I have heard one other person has the same problem. A pain,

Yes, Emagic should really have fixed this by now. The only solution I
have found is to create a new document and then rebuild your autoload
(which could be quite a hassle depending on how elaborate your autoload
is).
This will reset the Channel Strip to the biggest audio object (with the
most plugs inserted).
Unfortunately I don't know any way to correct this problem on older
songs.

Yes, the 'snapiness' of the 9-version is definitly gone.
But I like the lightning-fast 'next-window' command in OSX. Switching
between two windows (arrange&environment) is instant now, because of
the way OSX uses the graphiccards.
I think a lot of things will change in the future: look, streamlining
of user-interface, faster in basic functions (as you mentioned, copy
takes too long), version number.

I'm using Windows 98SE and have Logic Audio Gold v4.8 installed.
I'm considering upgrading the operating system to Windows XP. The
question is will Logic Audio Gold v4.8 run under XP. I searched the
archives and FAQ's but couldn't find the answer to above question

me too, but now it's working, this is what i did:
repaired permissions - did not work
reinstalled altiverb, with newer version - did not work
reinstalled logic 6.3.2, i do not keep logic in the boot partition,
opened the boot partition logic - it worked.
opened the copy of logic that i keep in a music projects partition - it
worked.
erased the boot partition copy of logic (the just installed copy) - it
worked.
now it's working.
i would say it either: has to do with the installation of panther. has
to do with some of the maintenance routines panther runs at night. has
to do with the fact that logic installer changes some of the
permissions that have to do with the accessing of the (altiverb) ir
files.
warm regards.

Still has some bugs to be worked out, OS 9 is a no go, OS X possibly.
Do a search of the group.
Ciao,
Would our seasoned Logic veterans be able to offer any advice on
elegant management of takes?
I wish that Logic offered "explodable" (politically incorrect
term,
surely) takes, where one track could easily be expanded to show its
component takes for easy comping, and then compacted again to
visually occupy only a single track's space. I believe C****e has
such an implementation?
It seems that the closest option in Logic is either the use of Track
Folders, or the use of the Hide function. Neither of these is ideal
to me, as the Folder opens into another window, whereas I would like
to see the takes in the context of the full song arrangement. The
Hide function, on the other hand, hides and shows ALL hidden tracks
at once, rather than those relating to a specific take set.
Is there another approach within Logic?
How do other users manage the inevitable track proliferation involved
when recording multiple takes of many different performances?
Thank you for any insight.
Best,

you must have logic 4.8.1 (vol. 13). this you can get by calling emagic.
then, if logic freezes up, you have to make some changes to your machine.

Another thing this might be that has beed mentioned quite a bit in the forum
is ACPI. Some of the older motherboards weren't designed with this new
function in XP. If you have a motherboard or OEM (Dell, Compaq, Gateway, HP,
etc..) that came with Windows ME or 98 pre-installed (or bought pre-2000)
then this is probably the problem. Go into the device Manager (right click
on My computer and select properties, click the hardware tab then Device
Manager) and click the + drop down memu on computer tab above disk drives.
You should see ACPI Multiprocessor PC. Right click on that and select update
driver. A menu will open, select install from a specific location then next.
Now select Don't search, I will choose the driver to install. Now you should
have 2 or 4 choices to choose from (depending on how old the motherboard
is). Highlight Standard PC then hit next. Follow the rest of the directions
and allow it to restart. You might have to re-install a couple of drivers
but I found I didn't have to on the numerous times I did this. Hope fully
this should fix your problem with the asio overflows along with
compatibility issues. Please read the following articles to understand more
about XP and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

Hope this helps

I've been using this card for Audio Instruments and have had nothing but
trouble free performance.None of the noise, pops , clicks etc that you get
with other cards.I haven't attempted any kind of complex audio recordings
though.
