If I recall, Apple has narrowed it down to Oxford 912 chipsets which are
FireWire 800, so FireWire 400 drives should be unaffected. Double check
though.

I am about to bite the bullet and upgrade from Logic 4.8.1, a
G4/400 with a Digi 001 and an MT4 to hopefully the G5 1.8 and
the most recommended midi and audio interface.
Would really like to hear from satisfied users as to what they
would replace the MT 4 with (if anything) and more specifically,
the Digi 001?
I have heard good things about M-Audio products, also the RME
Hammerfall card.
Appreciate any first-hand opinions.

[Admin - please reply privately, ot to the LUG - OT group.]
I just bought a G4 Powerbook - installed and transferred all my software
to it then within days it died on me.
It was classed as a DOA. The company I bought it from and Apple has
agreed it is a DOA the problem it takes up to 4 days
to give me a replacement cause of all the red tape. I find this bizarre.
I have applecare cover too.
Is there some other cover that people are using to ensure that you are
not without a machine for such a length of time ?
Hi gang,
We had a string a while ago about disk fragmentation, and one voice stated
that with OSX or "modern operating systems" it was no longer
necessary or
desirable to defrag your drives. I couldn't see the logic in that
statement, so I contacted Alsoft, the makers of Disk Warrior and Plus
Optimizer, asked him if defragging was desirable in OSX, and here is his
reply:
"Unix will install files sporadically throughout the disk. This helps
reduce file fragmentation but not disk fragmentation.
OS X performs the same kind of installation procedure as mentioned above.
While this may help file fragmentation it does not help disk
fragmentation and the fragmentation of free space. The more spread out
the files become the more disk activity you will have and the less
contiguous free space you will have.
This sporadic placement of files could pose a problem for people working
with video and/or audio files as well as users needing large amounts of
contiguous free space.
Running a disk optimizer will lessen disk activity, speed up file access,
and free up contiguous free space.
PlusOptimizer v2.0, our native X version, is currently in development.
We have not set a release date for PlusOptimizer v2.0 but if you like you
could add your name to our mailing list so you can be notified when the
new version has been released. The mailing list is at <http://
www.alsoft.com/listmanagement.html>.
If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us.

I'm absolutely happy with my Unitor8/AMT8 combo.

I personally wouldn't buy anything from M-Audio as I really hate their sound
quality. OTOH, Mobile IO is the best choice IMNSHO, and if it's too
expensive for your budget, RME is not bad either. Just my $0.02.
Best,

Did you try the alert box suggestion ... unpacking some of the deeper
folders?
I did briefly experiment with using folders (and folders within
folders) on WinLogic, but found that logic was sometimes choking on
the resulting structures, and was sometimes doing very wierd things
like claiming that structures had been corrupted, or that it was
suddenly finding recursive structures where there shouldn't have been
any. :(
So now I try not to rely on them too much, except for very simple
stuff, and try to avoid nesting.

The reason why it ought to be easy is that you can already copy and
paste and paste-replace mixer objects via the clipboard.
So if the clipboard is holding entire self-contained objects rather
than just pointers (pointers on the clipboard for this would be flaky
IMO), then it /ought/ to be simple.
I mean, if that really is how it works, you could probably even write
a simple third-party helper application to do it.
==example=Select Mixer object.
Press Ctrl-C to copy the object to the clipboard.
Use the helper app to identify and read the self-contained clipboard
object (clipboard objects have helpful ID labels), alter the channel
number (checksumming, if necessary), and paste it back.
Press Ctrl-V to paste the modified mixer object (with its new channel
number) back into logic, either as a new object or to overwrite
another selected object.
And the Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V stuff could probably be automated by the
helper app by sending logic the appropriate key commands (and waiting
for the clipboard to respond, in the case of Ctrl-C), so you could
open the helper window and click a "copy object" button, and a
"paste
to" button, and have a display textbox holding the number that the
object was going to be pasted as.
And while you had the helper app running, you might as well also give
it the ability to load and save those clipboard data blocks to disk
with a short friendly descriptive header (probably in RIFF format),
and an appropriate filename suffix (".LMX"?).
=
So if logic's method of accessing the clipboard is straightforward,
it ought to be easy. Obviously its going to be better if the function
is built into logic rather us having to use a third party program to
do it, but if emagic really aren't interested, we might have other
options.

GOD BLESS YOU!!! I have been having this annoyance. Here's what's
happening... I'll normalize gain on some audio in the audio editor window,
and i
don't get to see the results unless i windowshade. There must be some
graphics issue with LAP 6. I didn't have that problem in LAP 5. And as far
as
Panther, Logic doesn't seem as "snappy" as it is in OS9.

Unfortunately my drive falls in that category. Here is an extensive read and
workaround.
http://www.macfixit.com/index.php
CWB
am experiencing a strange recurring problem:
frequently, quite often after freezing a track or bouncing, the USB keyboard
just stops working. it has to be unplugged and then reconnected to work
again.
then after this has happened, usually after about 5-10 more minutes working,
all of the audio just stops playing completely, as if you had pressed the
solo
button with nothing selected. no level meters move, but the transport works
as
normal. just reinitialising the audio engine doesn't fix it, have to restart
logic from scratch..
???
anyone else having similar probs??

Logic 6.3.1, with the PCI-424 upgrade and Panther is the dream combo. Fast,
rock solid, and gorgeous to look at and work with. If you have the $, get
out of PCI-324 and Jaguar, you won't regret it.

I've got an external FW drive with Panther and its working fine...rock solid
since the upgrade on Friday. What host machine are we talking about here?
Mine's a dual boot, dual 1.25 G4, 2 gig memory, Atto card with two cheetahs
and the LaCie 200 gig FW drive.

Hey. I'm a new Logic user and I was wondering if Logic Audio has any
mastering programs? How do I get my tracks to CD level? They're so quiet.
Also, has anyone else had problems using MOTU's 828mkII with Logic 6? I
can't get it to record in anything but 44.1.
Thanks guys!
HI, I recently purchased Logic Platinum 6.3 and I was wondering what
is up with the exs24 mkII..I read that it is built into Logic, but I
also read it is optional. So...whats up?

Some people seem to be having problems with 400 drives as well. I have a
LaCie d2 fw800 drive that has has no problems, on two different machines.
More info

Also my drive does not fall within the serial number range that they show
problems with, 0133xxxxx

I have had great result with a M-Audio Delta 66 and usb midisport. Sounds
good to me

Pardon me...Oxford 922 chipsets...and several drive manufacturer's have
already released a firmware update.

Hi Fred Story,
I have recently installed a USB card into my beige G3 and upgraded
the OS 8 to 9. The reason I've done that is because I've also
purchased an Audiophile USB, which I've also installed into the G3
successfully.
I'm running Logic Gold 3.5.3 on my computer...
Could you please advise the steps to configure the Logic to read the
Audiophile please?
Many thanks.

Actually it is the Oxford 922 chipsets and I believe the 1.0.2
firmware. More than one manufacturer has the problem, not just LaCie.

Sorry, Logic 7 exists, they are on the Apple timeline of updates you know.
The 828mkII has been working great here forth Midi and Audio in OS X, the
M-Audio Firewire 410 appears to be a processor hog.
In the Logic Control demo I noticed marker that had different
colors. Does anyone know how to do that?
Cheers!

Hi- I have LAP 5, upgraded from 4, so i have the version 4 manual, the 5
upgrade
books, and some old CDs.
I ordered the LAP 5->6 upgrade from the Apple Store (3-4 weeks shipping
time!!!
what's up with that?) but I am wondering if if comes with a current manual
or just
another "upgrade" manual) - even a pdf version of a full manual
for version 6 would
be ok. I called emagic sales and they couldn't tell me what came with the
upgrade.
I am just learning Logic, so learning version 6 (which i just activated for
the demo
period) from a version 4 manual is a little confusing (or perhaps the
manuals are just
opaque in general)
