All I can say is...Just use the G5 and see if it lives up to your desires. I tested the G5 1.8 with Photoshop, Illustrator, SoundTracks and Final Cut Express. Some stuff, pretty comprehensive to give me an idea, so I was blown away with how fast it was...based mostly on my experience with Photoshop with huge files. What was more impressive was the fact that the G5 1.8 only had 512MB of ram...stock. Yet, with Photoshop, I did stuff that would really push a G4, and the result was, the G5 took it and ate it like a whale feeding on plankton. I know those Photoshop test scores and PV plug test are interesting way to gauge performance. But the best way is "you" sitting in front of the computer, and pushing it with something that you know would tax your machine. My personal test show a big fat "wow...that's impressive." Enough for me to know. Peace, Alexis Coming to a browser near you! http://home.comcast.net/~aiosa9/

In the Audio Window's edit menu there is the option to "select unused" which will highlight all audio files not used in the Arrange window. Pressing backspace deletes them from this song, but if you want to erase them from disk you need to select "delete files" in the audio menu. Hi Craig, I've had this problem with Logic for over a year now. It's happened to me on a dual G4 450 w/ Unitor OS 9, OSX, and a powerbook 1000 running OS9. Emagic says they can't recreate the problem. I've even sent them my entire live set per their request. Hell in live use. (which is what I use Logic for). Audio runs fine during the stoppage, but midi hangs. The "solution" I've found is to assign the key command "reset all controllers" to my spacebar ( hard to see any other key in a dark club) You don't need to check any boxes in the reset controlers prefs for this to work. Midi then continues on from where you are in the song, BUT, you need to reset as fast as you can 'cause all the midi notes that didn't play during the "midi blackout" alll play at once. The longer the wait, the bigger the noise.. The song then continues on normally. If your drummer gets a click, you need to put it on audio (i.e. EXS24) so his timing won't fail. Incredible PITA live. Almost cost me my job; makes Logic useless as a pro sequencer. If I was touring with a major act I could'nt use it. Subject: [LAM] Demo Logic 6 Platinum Software - Where to get it?
Message #145311
Hi Guys, I read earlier on this forum that the Apple Pro Training Series book on Logic6 contained a DVD with trial Logic6 Platinum software. I sent away for the 30-day demo key, thinking I could find the demo software somewhere, without buying the book. Now I've got the demo key, but no software. It's not at the apple site, nor at emagic. Does this mean one must buy this book to get the DVD for a 30-day demo? I will if I have to, and I'm not at all suggesting to break any rules, it's just that I'd prefer to load up and go, I usually don't read these type books. Thanks for any tips. Trond

I'm using a 1 GHz PB G4 running Logic 6.1 on 10.2.6 and I don't have any midi hangups. I also use VSTi's (well, the Emagic ones and a couple of AU's) live without problems. The book is from PeachPit Press. I've had it for over two months and am STILL waiting for my key. The book's OK, actually very 'beginner-ish'. I've been a user of other software for a long time and just wanted a demo before buying Logic. Based on what I've seen in the book and read on this list, I'm going to something else. ________________________________ ERIC SEABERG - San Diego <mailto:eseaberg@...> > From: "Trond Bjornard" <dnortana@...> > Subject: [LUG] [LAM] Demo Logic 6 Platinum Software - Where to get it? > > Hi Guys, > > I read earlier on this forum that the Apple Pro Training Series book on > Logic6 contained a DVD with trial Logic6 Platinum software. Oh yeah. One other thing that I do with Totalmix and Multiface. I send the adat out from MF to adat in on my digital mixer and set up those mixer inputs with pre fade sends open to all the FX send on the mixer. This way I can hang all my hardware FX units off the sends on my mixer and still send to them from busses inside Logic or from live synth inputs on my mixer without ever having to think about the signal path. Logic alone could not do this. -- ==/==/==/==/==/==/==/==/= Paul Najar Jaminajar Music Production http://www.jaminajar.com.au

Can anyone help please!! I am trying to assign Reason 2.5 instruments to Logic tracks, but whenever I assign a new track to Rewire in Logic and attempt to change the channel setting to reflect the instrument in Reason I want to control, it (logic)changes ALL Rewire tracks to that instrument. I have the bus setting on 6 like it says to do in Logic's help files, but when I choose the channel setting from the Arrange window, the corresponding Reason instrument shows up on every Rewire track I have open in Logic. Very frustrating... Am I missing something in the Environment to prevent this from happening? Could it be a setting in Reason I'm overlooking? Right now I have Rewire available as a choice in the midi instrument portion of the Environment. Is that right? I'm running 6.1, Reason 2.5 on a G4 using a MOTU Express XT and 828. Thanks... mike t
