Hi all,
I ran into a strange problem yesterday.
I have an Audiowerk 8 and route my 8 analog outs to my mixer (where I apply
EQ, comp and fx)
Now, instead of mixing down to my DCC as I usually do, I connected the spdif
out of my mixer (VM7200) to the spdif in of the Audiowerk.
I then went in the Audio hardware panel in Logic and change the Audiowerk
settings with 'Digital In' instead of Analog.
I then created a new stereo audio track in my song and tried to record so
that I would get my mixdown on that track.
The problem is that i got a sync error message and also the track was
playing my audio at half the speed!!!
I am sure there are some settings I'm missing here and some advice would be
welcome.
The sample rate in Logic is 44khz and same on my mixer.
Otherwise, is there another way to achieve the same result?
Setup: OS9.1, G4, Logic Gold 5.5, Audiowerk 8, roland Vm7200 console.
Thanks
Laurent
I'd like to thank you all for contributing this issue. After trying
this with different ways I've decided to use my way (multiple audio
objects with spesific midi channel). This is because I've found it to
be the easiest way for me to work.
On Eli's way I can get it to work if I edit the midi channel in Event
list since all the exported midi slices on me are on Channel 1. I
don't know what kind of a factor in my tests have been the fact that
I used Logic's save and load setting with Phatmatik pro. Once again
I'd like to thank you all for helping me to sort this thing out and
here'e waiting for the multi audio objects in Logic ;-)
Happy New Year

Of course you can copy the LA 4 application CD (send the original back to
emagic), and there´s a driver that allows you to use Logic 4 with the
XSKey.

It sounds like you are in patch mode; where you can only access/trigger one
sound at a time. You need to go into performance mode and set up a
multitimbral "performance" where the unit is set to receive on a
unique midi channel in each of the performance's "slots". Check
your JV 1010 documentation on how to set this up.

It is best if you can get the band to record in tempo with Logic. The
drummer would need to play to a click generated by Logic.
Alternatively, you could just ignore the tempo aspect of Logic and have them
record "wild" (ie: not synced in any way toi Logic's tempo). In
this case it wouldn't matter what bpm you have Logic set to.
You would be severley crippling you're ability to do any sort of meanigful
editing though in Logic afterwards. You would basically be using it like a
big multitrack tape deck. The bar grid in Logic would be irrelevant
afterwards for any sort of time based or position based edits.

Yes, the Studio 5LX is great, not just for the number of ports, but
because it is much more than an interface - it's a MIDI processor, and a
standalone MIDI patchbay on it's own. Unfortunately, nobody came out
with something that matches all of it, so, there isn't exactly a
replacement. As for the number of ports, I replace mine with two AMT8
(just because sync isn't on my needs). If you need sync, you can chain
two Unitor 8.
If ports is what matters to you, go for the new MIDI interface from
Digidesign. Each unit allows 10 ports.

With Mac you can. There is a small Extension Logic 4 XsKey driver
which allow you to use 4.X logic should you need so.

There is nothing to be fixed. The delay is a 'look-ahead' delay and is
part of the spec of this mastering tool. It is not meant for live use,
just on a finished audio recording of a final mixdown. If you do not want
a delay use a normal limiter plug instead.

please excust my inexactitude, i was abbreviating my description so my post
didnt get over-long.
Yes i know the input objects dont have an Input Popup, the above post
applies to when i merely select the Input number under the Cha menu. The
input popup was intended when referring to aux. In fact i get absolutely
NOTHING on my input object when using either a pre-existing object
assigned to an input or creating a new object and assigning it to the Input.
i
get just a blank channel strip except for the area where you can choose the
automation type (touch, latch, read etc) weird.
when i was saying "could accept a Bus input" i was referring again
to the
Aux's and the input popup which has, in fact no items at all in its list
even tho i
have at least 10 available inputs.
so they are both, as i said, completely useless to me as it is. no matter
what
ive tried i cant get any signal into them. i found a copy of platinum 4.7
online
that i downloaded to try and this feature worked fine in that version. so im
assuming its no my hardware. unfortunately the version of 5 silver i
actually
own doesnt work. . . :(

As others allready said, if the music (and the drummer's timing, erm...)
allows, I would record with a click. It's just way easier to punch in later
on, do edits and what not if you can navigate by bars.
Of course there's some music that would be somewhat destroyed when being
recorded at one straight tempo. In that case you should just record away at
whatever tempo you like. In case you want to line things up later on, so
they fit a bar/beat structure, you can use Logic's reclocking feature which
will sync Logic to the music rather than vice versa (i.e. in a
"clicked"
recording). And while that one seriously isn't implemented in a way making
you shout "hurray" it does work though.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about as well. If I wanted to transfer
GUI settings from inst 1 to inst 2, I would proceed as follows (but
maybe your way is easier -- haven't tried it myself yet):
Load inst1 in EXS, open editor, load inst2 in EXS, open another
editor, copy all from inst 1, select all from inst 2 and delete,
paste the inst1 stuff in inst2, save inst2 under a new name.

Never a good idea when talking about this potentially confusing stuff
:). The terminology of Logic is rather horrible, and thus always
requires some attention imo. Tracks can be Arrange tracks, or the
"Track x" which you can assign to an Audio Object's Cha parameter.
Input can be either a soundcard input or an input you can pick from
e.g. the Aux's Input popup, or the Cha parameter of an Input object,
or the Input object itself. Etc, etc... Mighty confusing indeed...

This is really weird... Are there any other Silver 5.5 users that
also have this problem?

Please do so, as I'd be curious to know if this is "just" a
problem
with your config, or a Silver-5 limitation.

There are plenty of AUs out there with custom graphics:
Airy's synths
Bitshift's Phatmatik
Elemental Audio's effects
Urs Heckmann's Rumblence
Chris Reed's Crunch
Destroy FX's Transverb
and probably more that I don't know about...
What do you mean "including Emagic as we know"? I don't understand
that
part of your comments at all.

The LAM5 dongle can open up LAM4. Emagic has since
supplied a free USB driver that allows this.
I don't think this is possible with LAW.

Some very large Environment Macros created in Logic4
will not work in Logic5. So you'd have to unpack the
Macro in Logic4 and make it smaller until it works in
Logic5. I've never encountered one too large yet.

Hi Hendrik et all,
I wasn't refering to an "armed" input, but an armed audio track.
I select Input 1-2 from the Cha parameter and the fader, meter, and
input dissappear from the object. If I change the Cha to ANY other
such as Aux, Output 1-2, S/PDIF output 1-2 (I use an Audiowerk 2)etc.
the meter and faders return. I have software monitoring on, the
appropriate input selected in the Audiowerk Driver Panel, etc. -
still nothing. I have been monitoring through an armed audio track,
but this is inferior - also, it is advertised that LA5 features Input
Objects. Any thoughts?

individual slice.

I'd like to go mixerless, but I don't know if the current audio
interfaces and their software would be able to replace my current
mixer/Logic seteup.
I was wondering how the audio interface software from the
Mobile I/O, RME interfaces, MOTU 828, and Firestation interfaces
work in conjunction with Logic. As far as I can tell with my Korg
1212 i/o card, when I'm in Logic, the audio signal of the 1212's
inputs are controlled by the routing in the Logic environment (I
have software monitoring set on in Logic's preferences in order
to monitor live audio in Logic's mixer during mixdown). I get
around the latency issue by monitoring live tracks during
recording through a different 1212 routing configuration by
changing patches on my external digital mixer.
So my question is, can I use the audio interface software from
the Mobile I/O, RME interfaces, MOTU 828, or the Firestation to
create different routing setups for the audio interface, and will
those routing setups be recognized by Logic, or is Logic
overriding the audio interface software when you use software
monitoring and talking directly to the audio interface, and using
the routing set in the Logic environment?? Any info would be
appreciated..

Well, you may be right but I always thought this was comparable to L1
Maximizer series of waves(which is also a mastering tool). There is no delay
issue with them. Don't they also 'look ahead'?
May be they don't. I honestly do not know.
However, I always add stuff later. Sometimes, you feel like adding an organ
somewhere after you levels are well balanced. Then if you used Ad-Limiter,
you would have to turn it off and redo everything.
So, I will just use another type of limiter that do not cause any delay.
I still think this could have been designed so it would not cause any delay.
But that's me...:-)

Hi folks,
due to the never-ending discussion and being a bit hyped by Transverb I
started a neat experiment today:
How long would it take to convert one of the most complex VSTs in means
of User interface to AU, namely More Feedback Machine with it's 111
parameters? I started 12:45h and now, 16:45h I did almost the whole
transition of the UI (lfo wave buttons missing and step-LEDs fine
tuning) , the parameter handling, the presets handling, 4hours minus
interruptions by some breakfast, taking a shower, planning the nite and
playing some levels of Deimos Rising (luv my iBook!). This is way
faster than I expected.
If I manage to put up the rest before 20:00h, I'll post the download
location. If not, expect to find it on my site tomorrow (depends on my
tonite's abuse-situation).
Cheers + Happy New Year,
;) Urs

L1 does lookahead, and it has a delay of only 64 samples, like all Waves
dynamic plug ins
>.....he said Drumagog.......He ran it on Acid,
>but I assume it works Logic too.....the end
>result was fantastic.
I tried comparing the performance of Drumagog and MDA BeatBox in Logic
Silver 4.7. Drumagog did indeed perform very well in replacing the hits in
audio drum tracks with samples of my choice. It was a little unstable in 4.7
but better in 4.8. Not the most efficient plug I've used but the results
were good. Didn't try all the features (such as ducking and "stealth
mode"). The BeatBox has a more lightweight feel about it, and has the
advantage of being able to play a kit of 3 drum samples at once, but it
wouldn't track a rapid succession of hits in a drum roll anything like as
well as Drumagog did, unless I used the hihat channel, but then I couldn't
load a snare drum sample into this channel properly, I guess they've limited
the sample size for hihats. Both plugs can reflect the dynamics of the
original audio - this can be varied from 0 to 100% in BeatBox; with Drumagog
it's either on or off, but it will play dynamic multi-samples.
Does anybody know of anything that can create a MIDI file from the audio?
All I need is to capture the timing of the audio drum hits. I know that
higher versions of Logic have the Groove Template feature which is said to
do audio-to-MIDI, but AFAIK that only generates a quantize template which
then has to be applied to an existing MIDI track. Hard to see how that could
help with a snare roll or a fill.
Cheers,
Andy
Hi
Could anyone tell me why I get this error message while playing back
audio samples in Logic Gold 4.0.0?
'Error while synchronising audio and midi. Sample rate of 48000

The sample continues to play, and the message goes away when I
click 'continue' but comes back again a few moments later.
I have checked everything I can think of. Sound card is Audigy2
Thanks, Wes.
