FWIW - I have been happily exporting to OMF and then sometimes on to
Pro Tools using OMF tool. I haven't been able to try importing back
into Logic, as Pro Tools still apparently has some issues with
exporting to OMF. I am using LAMP 5.0 to 5.3 for this om G4 dual 1G

You could also use the import function. That works when
opening ac PC song into Mac.

I'm not familar with that card, but I do remember that for
compatibility the firewire card must contain the TI or Lucent chipset.
There's probably more info at the MOTU site.

The reason your .lso files will not display with the Logic icon on your mac
desktop is because the files are PC format and do not have the embedded info
headers (fork or whatever) that a normal mac file has which helps the OS
identify what *file type* it is. (On the PC, the .xxx is what identifies the
file type. Recognition of the three letter file extension is a feature of
many mac apps (Adobe, Microsoft, Quark for example - you will still get the
"with what app do you want to open this...kinda thang" but it will
guess correctly), but apparently not with Logic. Thankfully, the previous
poster has provided some handy dandy scripts to solve your problems in a
batch fashion.
Regardless, you should at the very least, launch Logic *first* - then, use
file-open. You should be able to see and open your .lso's. Save-as to a new
file name (I would be wary to overwrite) and your newly save files will have
mac icons which you now can double click to open.

Hi, I'm having problems arming tracks on my Fostex D-160 from Logic
using MMC. The basic MMC works fine but I've had no luck with arming
the tracks. The manual isn't exactly helpful either...I know I have
to create an instrument with the tape icon (#305) or use the MMC
record buttons environment object...I have tried both but can't seem
to get it to work. The manual just says "You only need to create one
instrument with the tape object, you can then assign this to as many
tracks as you need for you tape machine..." - Fair enough, but how do
you assign them?
Any help gratefully received, I've just about given up on the idea
now!!
Cheers

This is what I did (with BBEdit of course) to convert a 4 disc library
from pc to mac.
Even with the batch processing it takes a certain amount of work - ie
replace illegal characters in one pass, then replace directories as
needed.
You also have to make sure that that sample file directories land in
the right place, or the EXS will take forever to search whenever you
want to invoke a certain bank.
Personally, I don't expect to re-visit this issue again, now that
CDXtract 4 has parity on both platforms.
But the original poster raised a valid concern: even with batch
processing the task of moving EXS from pc to mac would be a potentially
large task.
A step by step guide, or better, an elegant solution (some kind of
utility?) would be a good idea for Emagic to consider - especially if
they are trying to make cross-grading as attractive and painless as
possible..
hello all...
first off, this may be a bit off center, as im not sure it is 100% logic
related. if need be, feel free to email me off the list.
last nite, i was working on a song. i went to bed, didnt shut anything down,
just left it up to work on this morning when i got up. when i got up this
morning, i had a strange loss of sound in everything EXCEPT logic. my
windows media player, winamp, acid, sound forge, etc, nothing puts out any
sound. i can try to play a loop in sound forge and nothing, however if i
import it as an audio file to logic it plays fine.
ive gotten some strange error messages as well, and even gotten a few
"error
syncing midi" messages from logic too, but when i would close and
reopen it
would be fine (in logic).
i scanned for viruses, re-assigned the outs on my soundcard to make sure
they were correct, etc.
im quite nervous about this, to be honest. my OS consists of winXP, 1.6ghz
chip, 512 megs of ram and an echo mia soundcard. i just purchased this
machine about 6 months ago for the specific purpose of running audio only
apps.
any help would be enormously appreciated. its getting to the point where i
am scared i may have to format or something drastic like that.
thank you...

except it takes for ever or about half a minute anyway
when I click "record" till the recording starts.
Someone else had this problem?
And also: Has there been any news when it comes to using versions

Has anybody figured out a way to configure any logic virtual
instruments to play micro-tonal, non-chromatic scales
(especially "just tuning")? I guess it is possible to individually
tune each key on the EXS, but rather time consuming.
Can anybody recommend a website dedicated to this subject?

I saw what homburg wrote. I have to disagree with his theory of forever
on conversion :-). Well it would take forever doing it by hand if you
had a lot of files, but a simple AppleScript will suffice or even a
couple of C++ files I've got would do the trick together with a shell
script.
Contact me privately (I have one already that does something similar).
Hmm.
You can certainly mount the volume of a shared disk (from a network
computer) - but if this is for real-time stuff I don't know how that
will go (i.e., how these exs libraries are utilised in Logic). But you
can certainly try.
I'm on 10.1.5 (so this may be a little simpler in 10.2) but...
From GUI:
Jump into Sherlock and hit the Apple Icon (to search the Apple
Knowledge-base).
Type in "Mac OS X Connect to SMB" or something similar
(Note: you'll need to log into the knowledge base by creating an account
first if you want to view the results of a sherlock find in your
browser. So go to http://www.apple.com/support/ and click KnowledgBase
or MySupport and set up an account if you haven't already. This account,
btw, will be used for Apple online discussions and the store etc).
To share your stuff with the outside world....
- Go to System Preferences-->Sharing
Turn on sharing, you may want to allow remote logins via terminal and or
ftp access (if you want to login from your XP machine for example).
From the knowledgbase:
--
Follow these steps:
1. Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
2. Choose Connect to Server from the Go menu (see Note 1).
3. In the address field of the Connect to Server dialog, type the URL
using this syntax (see Note 3):
smb://ServerName/ShareName/
4. Click Connect.
(e.g., smb://192.168.1.2/R/)
You will be prompted for the workgroup, user name, and password. In
addition to connecting to actual Microsoft Windows computers, you may
also use the Connect to Server dialog to connect to a Macintosh that is
offering Windows File Sharing.
Notes:
1. When you go to the Connect to Server dialog, you may browse by
computer name. In Mac OS X versions 10.0 to 10.1.5, the names of
SMB-sharing computers do not appear. In Mac OS X 10.2 or later, the
names of SMB computers do appear (see Note 2). However, only the names
of computers on your subnet appear.
2. You may not always see the expected user-defined computer name when
browsing via SMB. See technical document 107085, "Mac OS X 10.2:
Windows
(SMB) Computer Name Does Not Appear in Connect to Server Dialog".
3. "ServerName" may be an IP address or DNS name.
4. The name of the "share" (the shared disk, volume, or directory)
must
be specified. You will not be prompted for it.
---
After following those steps you'll have volume R on your Mac Desktop
assuming, of course, that you've allowed the volume to be shared from XP.
Note:
If it doesn't work then you could set up the Mac to synchronise its copy
with your XP machine. But that's for another day :-)
check out 'man -k smb' for commands relating to smb.
with regards,

my unitor and autotune3 worked fine on my pc so what could be different on
the mac?
he said somthing about using vst midi or something, any idea what he's
talking about.
i thought they would have the answer but he says i need to talk to emagic to
find out what the problem is.
i would think they would know since this should have been tested with logic
so if any one has been able to get the midi control to work in autotune3
please let me know how you did it.

Funny, I was thinking about that just the other night! I think the only
ways to do it are either to tune the samples individually, or to use
hyperdraw to place very specific pitch-wheel control message.
There are some great resources/links on this page:

For those of you who are not fimiliar with unix i'll try to spoon feed this
to you.
Open up a terminal window and do a man page on 'ln', the linking command.
You do this by typing 'man ln' at the command line.
This will display information on the 'ln' command and all of the command
line options for this command.
the option you want to look at is the ' -s' option which creates a symbolic
link which is
basically an alias. So if you have a harddrive partition mounted at
/dev/hda3 and you want to
create an alias to /dev/hda3 at /alias_name then you would
type in 'ln -s /dev/hda3 /alias_name' at the command line. Another way to do
this is just to mount
the drive at a mount point of your choice in /etc/fstab, this is the
filesystem table and lists
the mount points for most ( if not all) logical devices (harddrives,
floppys, cdroms,usb storage devices, etc..)
Do a 'man fstab' to get more information on the filesystem table.
I know this may look complicated but the unix way of computing is extremely
powerful, be patient if
you first don't understand. Ask questions if you are confused.

Yeah, sure, but that requires you to import and re-save for every PC
song you might have. The Applescript I uploaded batch-processes all
files and folders dropped on it, so that afterwards you can simply
double-click the files to launch Logic. A tad more convenient imo
than the Import function.

If you want to do monophonic just-tuning by using pitchbend or detune
messages, you don't need hyperdraw at all. Just set up an
environment patch that generates the right amount of pitchbend/detune
for each note entering the patch.
Basic idea would be: note enters the patch, and the remainder of
'division by 12' is determined. This yields a number 0-11 (0=C,
1=C#, etc). This number is sent to a transformer set to 'Use Map'.
The map then contains 12 entries (0-11) which determine the amount of
pitchbend/detune to send. Something like that.
The only tricky bit is the division/remainder stuff. You could
either make a transformer Map, where each appropriate note-value is
translated into the proper numeral in the 0-11 range (requires you to
make 128 entries 'by hand', only once). Or you could do something
slightly more complicated like divide by 12 (63/12 = 5), then
multiply by 12 (5*12`), and then subtract that from the original
value (63-60=3).
For polyphonic just-tuning, I'm afraid the only way indeed is to
assign samples to each and every key and tune them all by hand. The
only possible shortcut would be: put all C's in a group, put all C#'s
in a group, etc, (12 Groups) and tune each of the groups -- instead
of tuning every zone separately.
