Is this correct?
On my undo history if the 'pan' comes before the 'volume'
I would have to undo my 'volume' data as well *before* I could undo the
'pan'
It's like they depend on each other, like an 'undo' family tree.
You make it sound like it's possible to just -click- on the
"moment" in
history
that I want to undo, while the other "moments" are not undone.
Is that possible?

I use a mac, so don't have a right mose button

Anyway, since v5.0 has key commands for *almost* all the tools, I forgot
that holding down "open-apple" while selecting a tool makes for
the open
apple key held down to always equal that tool.
I used to have the scissors assigned like this for quick cuts,
but since v5.0 those days were over and I *forgot* about the 'open-apple'
feature.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!!!

For some laughs, read the shipping dates at Emagic.de:
EVB3 2nd Quarter
EVD6 2nd Quarter
Samplitude 2nd Quarter
EMI 6|2m 3rd Quarter
WaveBurner Pro Windows 3rd Quarter
EPIC TDM 3rd Quarter
By my watch, it's long past the 2nd quarter.
Anyone seen the EVB3 or EVD6 yet?
As for Waveburner on Windows......oooops. (I doubt it....)
I'd *really* like to see a shipping date for a SoundDiver update.
v3.0.4 came out in May 2001 !!! I know there's lots of new stuff
waiting in the wings. Why not release it?
Waaaaaaaaaay overdue.

Hi Dave,
Yes, you indeed can do something of the same to achieve the same results in
Windows and I actually have done the same thing. Bear with me here, I am not
certain what you are referring to by 'stationary pad' documents. I may be
able to do this within Windows but I am missing something. I can do this say
from within MS Word if I am understanding you but then again, that is a
template capability that is available within Word.
What I am referring to is to have the ability to do templates from within
Logic itself. The competition does this and it would be nice to be able do
the same thing here; have template abilities within the program. The
operating systems allow us, in this case, to achieve what cannot currently
be done directly within the program.
I am changing the subject below somewhat...
Logic is very powerful. One thing it reminds me of, is being able to use the
environment as a low level software 'monitor' kinda like you can do with
some embedded systems software tools. With this you can change items
directly in memory from a 'command line' to get the embedded microprocessor
to do almost anything you need to be done. Logic's environment is somewhat
similar and it is graphical. You can do 'low level' things to a detail that
most other audio sequencing/audio recording packages can't do. But you
really need to know in somewhat detail of how the environment works. And you
can also download many things that others have done in the environment in a
manner similar to 'software macros' and insert them in your own Logic
'program' which is great.
You can get Logic to do 'most anything' that you can conceptualize by using
the environment at a 'lower' level. It would be nice to add many of the
'preset' abilities that their competition ships with their audio software
packages; i.e., have basic functions that are used from day to day without
having to create your own 'functions' or environment settings or find ways
around a problem to perform the same thing that is 'canned' in other
programs. I would not want to lose the capability of the environment or the
many things that are available only from key commands. There are just a few
additional 'standard' basic operating things that it would be nice to have
from a pulldown menu. I may be starting a fire by stating this...
There are many folks here on the LUG that enjoy and are rather good at
creating great things in the environment and have good ideas for ways to do
many things that are not apparent. I thank them for sharing their ideas with
us.

Hey folks,
This may have been addressed long ago, but I couldn't find any
recent answers to this question:
Are there any reasons to NOT install Logic on a drive (or
partition) that also contatins OSX? I know that Logic can not be
run within OSX' "Classic" mode, and I don't even have OSX on
any of my music computers, because I had heard at one point
that Logic's performance would suffer if OSX was installed on
the same drive as Logic. Any truth to this?
It's getting to the point that I'd like to install OSX on my TiBook,
at least, but I also use that machine for mobile work (with Logic)
and that needs to be a priority. Any thoughts/experiences
appreciated!
On a side note, I (like everyone else, I'm sure) am eagerly
awaiting Logic Titanium (OSX), but I'm frustrated that I won't be
able to use it fully until all my surrounding 3rd party software &
hardware is OSX native as well (audio hardware drivers, VST
plug-ins, etc.). Just about every other industry has made huge
strides in getting on board with OSX, so what's taking the DAW
community so long? We need to keep pushing developers on
this issue, as OS9 is officially dead from Apple's point-of-view...

I did say "in your particular case". In the undo history, the
volume was
written as a "line item" followed by the pan. Hence any pan moves
could be
undone. My point was, in the particular instance he was talking about,
luckily it could be done. I also followed up with;

hi Dave,
another Dave here as it goes........ I would say that there is no quick
way of diciding what keys u want to assign to what (or learning them), but
it soley depends on what u use most I guess.
I tend to use key commands more than the mouse (my mouse is prone to bad
mouse days). Simple things like moving left/right in various windows with
the arrow keys makes life (arranging audio for example) far quicker. Then
using the ctrl key or the alt key along with the arrow keys allows me to
move objects in arrange by bar/tick/format......etc........
What do u use most Dave - thats the thing..... my key commands change almost
on a weekly basis - depending what phase Im in the process of the song Im
doing at the time....if ya know what I mean....
see ya Dave, take care Dave.......

None. Only if you record or playback from the same drive/
partition as OSX, as the 100,000 or so OSX files will rapidly
fragment the audio. The same applies to recording/playback
from your OS9 system drive...
That said, it's a good idea to partition your drive - a partition
(preferably a whole separate drive) for audio record/playback,
another for OS9 and OS9 apps, another for OSX. Possibly
another partition or two depending on your needs.
My 20GB powerbook drive is partitioned (roughly) like this:
Scratch (for photoshop, OSX VM, temporary files, browser
caches, "emergency" record space) - 2GB
Audio record/playback - 8GB
OSX - 3GB
OS9 & apps - 2GB
Graphics documents & general work stuff - 4GB
It helps when backing up or defragging, helps prevent massive
fragmentation of audio files by other stuff, and allows me to
choose OS9 or OSX at boot by holding down the Option key (you
must have 9 and X on separate partitions to do this).

The OS X CoreAudio and CoreMidi subsystems are very much
works-in-progress. There are still a lot of problems, some of
which will be fixed with the upcoming 10.2 release. I suspect
most developers are waiting for a reasonable level of
functionality, performance, and documentation before their apps
have a hope of running under X.

Instead of assigning keycommands to everything (or most things),
it's best to assign only when you find yourself using a certain
menu function often enough to merit a key command. The other
way of looking at it is to not "waste" a key command on a function
that you don't do often enough and therefore won't memorize the
key command in the first place.
In fact, I went through the key commands and de-assigned many
of them for features I don't do often enough to merit one, or for
features I find "dangerous" (like destructive editing in the
Sample Editor that has no dialogue like Reverse: Sure, if I accidentally
hit this command I can just wait it out and undo it, but it's not
like I need this command every several seconds like "MUTE" or
"SOLO").

Sorry,
I don't think your plan is going to work very well.
When you transfer the audio from cassette to logic you will need
logic to be resolving to the fsk sync. ie the cassette must be the
master. The best possible scenario is where Logic is locking its
sample rate etc to the FSK sync received.
Cleaning up old FSK: Are you using the same fsk box that you used
when you recorded the FSK track initially? -You need to!. Listen to
the FSK to hear if there is an earth loop between the cassette
machine and your FSK box. Plugging them into the same power outlet
is a good start to resolving earth loops but you can get earth loops
through the midi cable as well. so check if the FSK box will lock
when no midi cables are connected.
FSK is a very simple square wave it distorts easily and can be
corrupted by background noise easily. I'm assuming that the lockup
system used to work for you so the most likely problem will be earth
loop.
We have just upgraded our 1G Athlon PC with Logic Platinium 5.1.3 and
it crashes as it tries to initialise the DS2416. We have reinstalled
Windows 2000 and Logic from scratch, but the problem remains. Anyone
had similar problems?
Now the installation is set to look for the DS2416, we can't get
Logic to start to change the Audio Driver settings to a SoundBlaster
(until we find the problem) - how can you get Logic to start without
an audio driver set - like it does on first installation? (we have
uninstalled and reinstalled, but it keeps looking for the DSP Factory
and crashing)

Actually , it was Robert who was asking the question :) [I was just
putting it to him that it probably wouldn't cost him much more time if
he assigned the keycommands himself.]

Can anyone tell me/point me in the direction for info on:
Emagic Logic Soundtrack 24,
which apparently comes bundled with the Hoontech C-Port (DSP2000?)
soundcard.
It's apparently sequencer/recording software, and I'm wondering how
it compares to the complete Logic Platinum etc in terms of features
for sampling/sequencing. I can't find it mentioned anywhere so I'm
wondering how complete and usable it is.
Apologies for the presumably stupid question.

Hi all,
I just got a Universal Audio UAD 1 in hope for
everything to work fine on the first (or second, maybe
third) try... Hey, one could ask...
Anyway, my setup is a G4/400 AGP, OS 9.2.2, 768 RAM,
Adaptec 2940 U2W SCSI card, Digi 001, Direct IO 5.1.1,
DigiSystem 5.1.1, LAP 4.81.
Everything works great as is, but I just installed the
UAD 1, downloaded the 2.2.6 software (the latest and
greatest), and whenecer I open a powered plugin I get
-6042 errors just seconds after the playback starts.
Logic is still running, but I get no sound. I got a
-6031 error a couple of times.
The Digidesign site says -6042 is a bus too slow
error. Could it really be??? I didn't have much
information travelling. Universal Audio says the card
requires a G3 or better, and a G4 bus would be too
slow?
Anyone got this thing running?
Thanks a lot,
andre t

I couldn't agree more that sometimes quick "destructive" plug-in
processing is the way to go. I stopped using the waves Premiere plugs after
the Waves 3.0 upgrade, and have often missed this ability I was so used too
in StudioVision and in Pro Tools - - Mars, how did you keep the two
Waveshells going simultaneously?
In any case, Peak has a "Bounce Plug-ins to Disk Command" which
essentially makes your VST real-time plugs act like
audiosuite/premiere/(anyone remember Sound Designer 2 format plug-ins?). (In
Peak, it actually allows a bounce of up to 4 inserted VST effects.) Logic
could allow inserting of VST or Logic effects on a selected Region in the
Sample Editor, then provide such a command to do the processing - after the
processing, the plug-ins are removed automatically.
Feature Request anyone?
Of course the Audiosuite options in Pro Tools are elegant and it's a
shame Digi won't distribute the code to other supporting DAWs for it. I've
lost track of any Premiere effects, which Logic still supports but nobody
seems to use anymore - mostly it was Waves pre-version 3.

not only are emagic's shipping dates way out of whack.. but their _actual_
shipping is also currently unacceptable..
I have had my logic 5 upgrade on order for nearly 2 MONTHS now (!?).. am
_still_
using 4.8.1 even though I have an installer disc for version 5 (which came
with
my MT4) which is useless to me until I get my XSkey.
my local distributor in australia (ELFA) told me yesterday that when apple
took
over emagic, no stock left the building while they did a stocktake/audit..
whatever! I know that there have been people out there on the PC using a
crack
version of logic 5 for months now, yet a legitimate, professional user like
myself can't get it for love or money - this is not right! emagic should be
making every effort to update its legitimate users in a fast and seamless
manner, not in a way that makes our experience of the product vastly
inferior to
that of people that find crack versions on the internet!!
as a legitimate user, _I_ should be the one that has the latest version of
the
software from the moment of my choosing, not some highschool kid with a
cable
modem that says to me 'I've had logic 5 for 6 months, how do you use it? if
you
had a PC i'd burn you a copy'..

when i first installed LAP and set up my environment, i discovered the same

Hello,
Any Logic 5.1.x users have any luck running Pluggo 3.0.3? I get crashes
constantly with it on either my G4 450 or my iBook. The 3.0.3 was supposed
to fix the Logic issues, but I don't think it did.
I'd like to hear from anyone using it successfully.
Thanks,

I know this is a pretty easy question but I am new to logic and
trying to work out how to use plugins. the logic manual tells you all
about them but not how to get them on screen and use them or which
screen they are available in. Also I have tried to use Phatfree, I
have dragged it to the VST file but again cannot figure out how to
access it from in logic.
Can someone give me an idiots guide to what to do
thanks

I've heard of this happening if you use the Digi001 midi ports
with OMS.
