If you're using the cracked version of Logic, then you need to hold down the Space-Bar while booting up Logic for this to all work properly. Subject: LAMP: Upgrade Mac 7300 to G3? Good move?
Message #49202
I have been thinking of upgrading my Mac 7300/180 to a G3 or G4 upgrade CPU card. Has anyone done the same with good results? I believe an upgrade card would cost around $600 - $700 (for G3 400). My 7300 has been very good but gets overload signals when dealing with many plug-ins running at same time etc. Does anyone have preferences for G3 or G4? I am running LAMP 4.5. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul.

I used to sequence with a Mac/SE - you know the little one-piece mini-blackand white screen. Even for Audio, it depends how many tracks you really need to be running at once - without mixdowns (oops, I meant "bounce downs"). I heard that the Velocity engine is not as utilized as fully as it ought to be though in LAM, so that should not be a major concern. Just stay away from the upgraded CPU models.

(Don´t forget to disable the system extension "Built-In Graphics Accelerator" once a CPU upgrade is installed) G4 is only preferable if altivec is supported by the software (positive in Logic). I would recommend a G3, because the bus speed in the 7300 is slow, compared to newer computers, and the higher price for the G4 in relation to the overall increase in speed isn´t really worth it. Tip: use a really fast HD. An ATA 66 PCI card + IDE HD is cheaper than a SCSI HD alone. I would suggest you check the archives at egroups, cause this has been discussed earlier. Hope I could help, Tobias

(A) Run the 'find Logic key' program which you should have under your start menu. If you don't run the programme directly from your Logic install folder. (B) If that doesn't work, try physically switching your Logic key over to the other com port (i.e. from 1 to 2 or vice versa). (C) If those still don't work, then enter 'win.ini' (get there by clicking Start then Run then entering 'systedit'; when bunch of files open up close them down until you get to the one headed 'win.ini). Go down to section headed [Logic]'. Delete there the line that says 'key=xxxx' or similarl. Try running 'Find Logic Key' programme again. (D) If that STILL doesn't work you can try disabling one of your com ports. Disabling Com Port 1 is usually the best bet. Right-click on 'My Computer'; choose 'Properties' from the pop-up menu; go to the 'Device Manager' tab; click on the + sign by where it says 'ports (COM & LPT'); click on 'Communications Port (COM 1); click on 'properties'; put a check mark in the box where it says 'disable in this hardware profile' or similar. Then reboot. And try 'Find Logic Key' again. If your PC complains bitterly, just go into safe mode and renable the port. Then ... repeat the whole procedure and disable Com Port 2 instead. Then try Find Logic Key again. If all of that doesn't work ............... . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Parish" <tparish@...> To: <logic-users@egroups.com> Sent: Sunday, December 31, 2000 7:51 AM Subject: [LUG] LAW - will not recognize dongle now argh ???? > > Ok, I'm both upset and tired. To re-state my problem: The Arrange shows two consecutive MIDI sequences separated by a gap of a few beats. The Event List says that the second sequence begins immediately after the first sequence, and shows the notes that are in the 'gap' (which also play). However, the matrix and Hyper Editors say that the second sequence begins where the Arrange says it begins, and that consequentially the notes don't exist. I solved this by pencilling-in a sequence in the Arrange's gap, and gluing it to the second sequence which produced a single sequence containing the the 'invisible' notes. Is it me, or is there a big bug here? Drizz

Hi I have had a similar problem and know how annoying it is. I tried to get help from the distributor in Australia but apparently I was the first person ever to have a problem with a dongle - yeah right! Anyway, my problem was that whenever I made a slight adjustment to my system, Logic would not be able to find the dongle. I tried a lot of things and finally I came up with a solution which, in my mind, is really weird but works 100% of the time (for me anyway). Whenever I get the message that logic can't find the dongle, all I do is replace the cable connecting the dongle to the computer with another cable that is longer. Without fail logic will find the dongle. If something changes on my system again and logic can't find the dongle again, all I do is put the original short cable back between the dongle and the computer and Logic will find the dongle straight away. I told you it was weird but that is what I have to do to get logic up and running again. It may help.
