Hi-
I know this "clicks and pops" thing has been done to death on this
list and
I'm kicking myself now for not having paid attention to that discussion, but
here's my problem:
I just installed a new 30 GB ATA 100 Western Digital IDE hard drive on my
Dell Optiplex Windows 98, PII 400, 192 megs of RAM, running LAS with a
Lexicon core 2 system. When I finally got the machine to boot up with the
new hard drive, discovered all kinds of loud popping and clicking in Logic
and absolutely bullocksed sound in Windows Media The hard drive came with
"Data Lifeguard" which I installed and then uninstalled hoping
that was the
offending party, but alas, Logic still consistently clicked and popped. The
only other thing that may be new is "EZ-bios" which I'm not sure
can be
gotten rid of.
Keep in mind that I'm not even using the new HD yet, but just the fact of
having it on the IDE seems to be screwing everything up.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Even if someone
could point me to the archives so I could fish through all the clicking and
popping drama, that would be a big help. A friend said he had a similar
problem with Windows and the only way he was able to fix it was to overhaul
his whole system. That seems a little rash to me given the circumstances,
but I may end up doing just that if can't fix the problem.
Thanks
Scott Hampton
