Maybe the feature calculates that the sheer I/O latency is above whatever limit you set the low latency parameter to. Have you tried to increase it. The vocal goes into Logic and using software monitoring you route it out again to a hardware unit and then into the mixer. Is the mixer an outboard one or Logics. If it's an outboard one then it does sound strange.
