In logic 8 open space designer, open the media bin on the right of
the arrange page, type in a "+" and you will get a list of the
true
stereo presets.
It is unfortunately still a small list but if you try them I think
you may be surprised how much better they sound than the older samples.
True stereo makes a very noticeable difference.
Still, I must admit there are not really many in the few that are
there that come close to the quality of the best altiverb samples,
still they do sound nice and if you want the true stereo reverbs that
are in the factory library to sound more like the altiverb samples
the will if you roll off the high end a little using the filter.
I sampled my UAD 1 plate 140 into SDIR format using the impulse
response utility and the Space Designer patch sounds *identical* to
the plate 140, that was not true in Logic 7, before SD was true
stereo, so on the basis of that I have high hopes that before too
long a larger variety of SDIRs will start turning up.
What I am saying I guess is that I believe the only significant
difference between Space Designer and Altiverb is the IR library
available and I think it is reasonable to think that will change.
Altiverb will probably always be ahead in the number of IRs and
Altiverb's variety is truly impressive but for me it is overkill, for
me anyway, all I really need are a few that I like and know where to
use.
