Hi Simon,

I don't do this often, but it is my favorite way when I do need to do
it:
Create a new track in the arrange Window with a piano sound (or
guitar would work) and play in a simple part with all the chords in
root positions right on the downbeat. Use inversions if that is what
you want to appear on the final chord chart.
Then open the Global Tracks and view the Chords section. They should
appear correctly. You can double click and fix individual chords if
there were any mistakes in the way logic interpreted your playing.
Then go into the Score Window and call up the menu command (right at
the top of one of the local Score menus - can't remember which at the
moment) that will automatically place all the chords from the Global
chord track into the score.
That's it. You can use the "select all equal" command to globally
align them as you want. I have done this many times and have loved
this feature since L7.2. The trick is to play the chords in simply
and don't use any unusual voicings or extensions; just use what's
needed to generate the chord symbol you want. If you want it to say
C7 for a bar, play C E G and Bb on the downbeat; nothing more, etc.
